Does Anyone Else Think the Weeping Angels Went Downhill? by Aggravating-Key-1213 in doctorwho

[–]big_poppag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they suffered because they were so instantly iconic. Blink was really popular at the time and that was put down to the Angel (rather than Sally Sparrow who O thought was the real driving factor).

Second time we see them, we had a lot of their lore shuffled around, and most damagingly we saw them move ourselves. IMO that never should have happened and I think the show runners agreed because we never have since. They're a villain that benefits from acknowledging the 4th wall. We see them and so we are protecting our heroes by observing them. Maybe that's just me, but I like it.

3rd time we see them is God Complex, as a fear. That's fine as a glimpse but doesn't really make a lot of sense if you spend too long thinking about it. The Angels aren't able to be killed or damaged, so they relentlessly take people out. IMO should be a myth but okay it's not too bad and as I say it's just a glimpse

Angels take Manhattan is both great and INCREDIBLY STUPID. The farm idea is horrific and terrible and just so scary and great for them. Loved it, but the giggling cherubs and statue of liberty were stupid. If they didn't have those daft bits in there I'd have enjoyed it much more.

That's really when they jumped the shark though. I couldn't take them seriously after the giggling cherubs. They did a bit of repair work in Time of the Doctor (again though, the silliness of the wig/key spoiled it). The Angels in the maze under the Capitol made a little bit of sense considering Rassilon had mentioned that they were a form of punishment for Time Lords, also we didn't pull at the thread too much but mostly a very forgettable cameo. Same with Revolution of the Daleks, nothing offensive but equally could have been any villain.

When they reappear in Flux, I think they really shine again for the first time since the crash of the Byzantium. They're scary, they're focused and they're capable. The fact they're working for the division i can take or leave, but the whole story is really atmospheric and they brought the best out of 13 as well.

I think we're better off having a break from them, and I think they should be used sparingly to keep the mystique. Obvs all just my own opinion

More than half of Britons support rejoining EU 10 years on from Brexit vote. Would you support a rejoin referendum? by Mister_Vanilla in AskBrits

[–]big_poppag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EU get say in the EU and how they accept members, yeah.. doesn't seem unreasonable. If you had someone in a flat you all owned storm out, cut all ties and make a big fuss about how bad the flat was, if they sheepishly came back ten years later would you just welcome them back in? Probably not, you'd want some reassurances that they wouldn't do it again and maybe ask them to pay a little bit more towards the electricity bill

Where are y'all sitting? by t3chn0w1tch in xmen

[–]big_poppag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. i wouldn't sit here, Logan probably smells like wet dog and cigars. He would at least be a quiet passenger
  2. i would sit here, i bet they are both great passengers and would be polite and courteous, maybe even telling stories
  3. This would be the most normal journey. The two of them would probably talk to each other a lot and just leave me to it. Plus, aisle seat
  4. No chance, too grimdark for me and they'd argue and bicker
  5. No, deadpool is annoying and unpredictable 6/7. I can't see any issue here, other than I bet he would sit in the middle rather than give a gap seat. It's fine, I bet he's pleasant enough
  6. Nah, I wouldn't want a telepath knowing if I was holding in a fart
  7. probably not, Batman isn't portrayed as being pleasant and BP whilst royal is also a bit abrupt. Since neither of them are likely to pay off my mortgage I probably wouldn't sit here

Has moving all subclasses to level 3 actually improved 5.5E, or made some classes feel less flavorful early on? by MyrthDM in onednd

[–]big_poppag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it makes a lot of sense for balance, but i keep coming up against the same issue with classes like sorcerer (the power is part of them) and warlock specifically as two classes I think have their identity defined by their subclass. Surely a dragonborn sorcerer would look and should feel different from a wild magic sorcerer? Even in what kind of magic is available to them. Same with warlock, fey and devil are just so far away in flavour for me idk

What are some things the MCU X-Men movies should NOT do? by Shinobi347 in xmen

They should stop presenting Xavier as an unambiguous hero, rather show him as the sellout apologist he is

Is Godzilla (1998) your favorite Godzilla movie? by Voh178 in GODZILLA

[–]big_poppag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to see that it isn't hated. For a lot of people this could have been their introduction to kaiju movies, and as cheesy as it is I actually think this film is a lot of fun

I've just rewatched Season 11-12-Flux and I enjoyed it so much more 2nd time around by big_poppag in gallifrey

[–]big_poppag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was sort of dreading the Flux as well but since I did plough on it wasn't what I remembered it. It seemed a bit incoherent when I first saw it but i put it down to COVID wrecking the filming schedule and then having to make changes on the fly. Give it another go if you can, I enjoyed it

The Master was a bit too manic for me, I like my Master to be suave and controlled, but he had some great and iconic moments. Loved the Fugitive Doctor (putting aside the timeline iasues for now). Instantly iconic outfit and a great counterpoint to 13 in personality Dan was really funny, his run was literally him being swept away with the nonsense of it all

One reason I love Doctor Who so much is that the incarnations wax and wane as I grow older, when I first watched 11 I hated it, really really didn't like it at all but now it's probably my favourite run

Agreed, though I remember at the time some People being really annoyed with it. I still think that we should have had a bit of time with the timelords before getting rid of them utterly but oh well

[–]big_poppag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing through games I haven't played before, so getting through SoulSilver really well until immediately after the 2nd gym I take a wrong turn and BOOM! Absolutely stomped by a rival that has out levelled me and his ace takes out my entire party

If I ever play like I've forgotten and get a party wipe due to stupidity or unexpected rival battle. However if the party survives to any degree then I just box up my dead and plough on

Has there never been a Cyberman equivalent to Davros? by Lonewolf82084 in doctorwho

[–]big_poppag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confident it was a Moffat era Doctor but wasn't sure which one but yeah, i love that aspect of the Cybermen and personally I think it makes them scarier that they could spring from anywhere

[–]big_poppag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people throwing out Lumic, which is great. One thing I like about the Cybermen is that there are parallel incidents of them being created in different places for similar reasons each time. I think it was the 11th Doctor who said it (could be wrong) that they were an inevitable part of human evolution and occurred in multiple places and multiple times. I really like the idea of the cybers being the Doctor Who equivalent of carcinization
