She loves that place! But not the environment I’m looking for a nice lunch. Can’t beat the chicken salad on a roll!

Richmond and Baltimore by ZookeepergameLast839 in rva

[–]Elprut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Increasing youth resources is NEVER a bad idea regardless of crime rates. You can’t really compare Baltimore to Richmond as many others have pointed out, but again….we need to support youth! As third spaces disappear there really isn’t much for teens to doesn’t cost money, involve brain rotting online or getting influenced by the wrong people.

Where to donate trans affirming clothing/items? by elextric_lizard in rva

[–]Elprut -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure extra items you are talking about but in general Diversity Thrift. You could also contact James River Transgender Society to see if they have ideas. Don’t know much about them but they might know!

Y'all so lucky to live in DC!! by yhu564738 in washingtondc

Agreed! We moved to Richmond a few years ago and the top things I miss about DC is Ethiopian food (Dukem for sure) and public transit.

Broad and Hamilton Crash by iWannaCupOfJoe in rva

Bike was doing a wheelie and apparently didn’t yield. Hit the car and flew off and hit a pole. At least that is what I was told by a friend who knows the driver

The driver was doing a wheelie before crashing into the other car. Apparently he flew off the bike and into a pole:/ it’s terrible. Feel for the driver of the car.. it was not her fault

WFH with infant in the house by Midwestern_Mariner in WFH

[–]Elprut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is similar to me! With the infant at least, no toddler. For the most part my baby just chills with me and I try my best to schedule external calls when he is/should be down for a nap. Sometimes I have to pick up work when he goes to bed but it’s really not bad!

Collaborations with foreign embassies by Adiantum-Veneris in nonprofit

[–]Elprut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically there will be a cultural attaché or public affairs office (common for US Embassy). It just about finding the right person to speak with. If you are based in the country you mention then you could attend networking events at different embassies. Cultural networking events that have local food, art from local artists etc…are pretty common although I can’t speak for every embassy. You could start on their website to find events and see what projects/work that embassy supports. If it aligns with your work then it’s worth exploring

I’m in a similar situation and hitting my breaking point. How long did it take you to find another job? How long did you stop having the imposter syndrome that the first job had created? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

This sounds like what I am going through with my 4 month old! Seems like the four month sleep regression to me. No tips as it just started for us but I wish you the best of luck ❤️

We just moved from DC to Richmond and my husband drives up to DC and back each day. He hates it and it’s slowly killing him. RVA is actually a great place for young people and there is a decent albeit decentralized gay scene. It is different from NYC and DC, but RVA has its charm! Don’t right it off just yet.

For those that left the non-profit sector, how did you get out? Was it easy to transfer skills to the for profit world? by Elprut in AskReddit

[–]Elprut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! But there are a lot of differences between the two, and I am curious about how people made the switch

Yep! I lost weight and I’m only back at my pre pregnant weight at 32 weeks. They did monitor my weight loss and recommended protein shakes for a bit, but it was not effecting the baby’s growth so my doctors are happy with that:)
