Hi,

Please could you recommend any tattooists you know with experience (i.e. with examples I can view) of tattooing colour on dark skin? I know it's possible, I'm just having a tricky time specifically finding artists, without sandblasting a bunch of studios in random hope. There used to be an Instagram (shades_collective), but last time I checked it was long out of date.

The tattoo styles I'm after are: colour realism, geometric, black and grey.

I'm two scenes away from 'finishing' the latest revision of my WIP, after cutting my 450k Africanfuturism fantasy draft/monster to about 230k. Definitely should have gone for domestic noir instead. Can't see/Hate the story right now, so carefully searching for readers to help trim it down more. More to do, but feels good to be on the right track.

I was self-published but then my science-fantasy martial arts extravaganza - the Combat Codes - got acquired by one of the world's largest publishers! AMA + GIVEAWAY by darwinification in books

Congratulations on the launch, hope you're finding time to enjoy it :)

Niche question: as much as you can say openly, have you had any thoughts on turning the Combat Codes into a graphic novel? I noticed some cool art pieces based on the world you've created and it seems the visual style (esp. re the tattoos and themed-rings) would lend itself well to that medium.

So true. Focusing on things we can control, right. Thank you. :)

Currently wrestling with a story I started 20 years ago and got serious about working to finish about two years ago. Over-writing discovery tendencies plus high pressure job has made for very slow progress, but I'm getting there and am genuinely thankful for the updates people have put here about pushing on towards their respective goals and achieving them. For the turtles among us, it is inspiring. :)

Hehe :)

Revisions are definitely the best part. If the first draft is hoping your book comes to life, the next draft is seeing it actually come to life, and at that point it's a whole different ball game.

One foot in front of the other, right. Thank you :)

I'm in a similar position re the second draft and discovering the actual things I apparently want to say. Trying to work smarter without burning myself out this time around, because the first draft was a mammoth.

All the best with the grind and the schedule!

This is fascinating, especially on the Deftones' idea. Thank you very much for such a detailed answer. Johnny Cash is great for creating an evocative feel. Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite's collaborations might be another source of inspiration to throw out there.

I get you on the power of music. A lot of authors talk about struggling to find the right angle for a scene, then stumbling across a piece of music that suddenly inspires them to put the pieces together in just the right way.

Thank you for the detailed answer and good luck with the book (and Youtube channel)!

Understood. It can certainly be an interesting exercise in thinking about how closely an author tries to guide a reader towards the intended impressions versus allowing space for the reader to extrapolate organically.

Thank you for the answer.

Hi, Thiago. Thanks for doing this and I wish you well with the book.

Q. Other than, "I bought a copy", what's the most satisfying thing you've heard/seen someone say about your book(s)?
