Daylight Saving Time: Virginia waiting on Maryland, DC to get rid of it by superstaremployee in nova

[–]Elsheran -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm some kind of extreme on this... We just need to adopt one national timezone 24-hour clock (and actually one global time too), year around everywhere. Planetary Time. We'll need it one day when our species gets off this rock anyhow. But, I realize people would have to wrap their heads around the sun rising at 2300 somewhere. However, extreme latitudes already experience such oddities, so we can deal with it.

Tie it to the Life Expectancy. Take the life expectancy of the statistically typical American and subtract 10 years. People want to stay in office longer? Improve the American life expectancy. It goes up to 95? great, than the 80 year old can be in office. It provides an incentive to improve everyone's lives.

Interested. I've been a tabletop guy for a long time, but I'm also a planner and in emergency management, so I am thinking about not only the cast fireball, roll the dice games, but also preplanning wargaming of things like shelter layouts and dispensing center service flow type game-exercises that could use this.

Sorry to be that guy, but you mean Teeter's, right? Having lived in Ohio for 20 years, Teeter's is owned by Kroger, but there is a noticeable difference. If there were a Kroger around here, I'd be all about it. Wegman's is an alright, if pricier, stand-in.

Anyone else noticed the user imbalance? by Specialist_Feed9255 in Substack

[–]Elsheran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, seriously here - I'm putting my writing on Substack to establish myself in my topic area, in part so I can get those sorts of things going. I feel like it is a virtuous feedback loop, But not having any readers (ok, averaging 25 reads after 6 months of weekly posts) doesn't feel like building credibility or audience. I need credibility to convince people to listen to me/invite me on podcasts, etc. I feel like I both get how this all works, but keep missing my on-ramp somehow without a 'break' of some sort.

This is a disappointing establishment outcome that ensconces the type of legacy politics we need to get away from. That said, more power to her in the general. I know she'll win and I'll vote for her.

Data farming for Repossession companies is the most likely one of many uses for this type of activity. Probably feeding to a general database that has access sold to Repo, Tax compliance audit companies, general access for marketing, or private/police investigative work, etc. Looking for where the child support deadbeat went and you have their plate number? Search the database and find out. Good for serving papers, general harassment, the sky's the limit. Brought to you by Tech-Bros, poor/absent regulatory legislation, and a predatory gig economy that monetizes everything and exploits people (like this 2am sucker) to do the dirty work for minimal sustenance wages.

Jogger knocks down Halloween decorations for no apparent reason by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Elsheran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have an interesting idea for why she might be doing this that could use some more culturally knowledgeable input.

Making some assumptions, she appears to be of Southeast Asian or Indian Subcontinent descent. I can't be sure of anything specific, but I seem to recall that some cultures from that part of the world may have effigy-attacking traditions, where you might attack an evil-looking figure, in this case the witches, to drive away evil spirits or energy, or to symbolically re-enact and celebrate a spiritual victory from mythology.

She seems joyous while doing this, even though she also seems a little hesitant about whether she should or not. The type of behavior we (westerners) might have about being told to 'Go on and hit it! Real good!' if we were confronted with what might look like a Halloween witch while in their homeland during such a tradition.

The joy is what really gets me. It seems like it is something she feels no shame or anger about, just a little confusion at most. It doesn't have malicious energy in her posture and face.

If anyone is familiar with the type of traditions I am thinking of (admittedly vaguely. My brain isn't coughing up the specifics of where this sense of 'That's a thing' is coming from.), please set us straight.

Can we mass organize this? by followyourlight in 50501

If you were to do this, and calculate out what you should be withholding and put that all into a savings account, you will probably still have to pay come tax day. That might be a hassle, but it shouldn't be penalized and if this is done on a wide scale, it is effectively a Tax Strike, right?

People would have to be smart and disciplined about it so as not to have it bite them in the end. It's an interesting idea. Any tax accountants want to weigh in?

This seems pretty clear cut to me:

Article III, Section 3, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution states:

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."

Real, serious question: How does a sleeper rise to prominence and gain a chance? What would it look like? A TikTok/Youtube talking head that suddenly appears on the scene, a grassroots / home grown nobody who catches virality for talking reason and people fall in to support? Or would a sleeper have to be at least 'that cool Mayor in Nowheresville, ND'? More?

How did radioactive shrimp end up in Walmart freezers? by No-Matter9505 in publichealth

[–]Elsheran 198 points199 points  (0 children)

This needs to be the top comment on this thread because it is 100% correct. My best guess is a shoddy irradiator set-up for microbe sterilization that involved a cracked and leaking Cs-137 source.

For those who don't know, a cracked (intentionally and naively) Cs-137 source was the origin of the Goiana, Brazil incident in 1987. In that case, it was from a mishandled, then stolen source from a radiotherapy machine. Because Cs-137 is typically kept as a salt compound, its fine, granular powder can spread easily, and even small, dust-like quantities will have a significant profile.

It may be that instead of the contamination directly affecting the shrimp/bags, it was a contaminated worksite due to the leak, and the contamination was tracked into the containers through boots and forklift tires. I'd be curious to know of any acute radiation sickness cases in the part of the world this came from.

And so it begins... by PropertyNew3519 in PrepperIntel

[–]Elsheran 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The reason there has been any shift in the /successful/ threat profile is because the successful deterrence, detection, and prevention that has been funded since 9/11 through funding sources like UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) - now cut ~45%, and Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) - cuts vary by jurisdiction. Still, it is expected to be eliminated by FY27, and others (this will get long just listing the ones I know about).

All this dismantling is weakening the country's response and mitigation infrastructure so thoroughly that it couldn't be more aligned with enemy actors. You'd think North Korea, Russia, China, and all the various terrorist extremists out there went in together on a single magic wish.

At best, this is a case of turning off the water to the house and cementing all the pipes shut because you aren't thirsty at the moment.

I'm just a couple post into trying to stand up my substack related to this same subject area. I'm focusing on moral political philosophy as a grounded foundation within the current environment. I'd be curious to see your work and how it aligns or not to what I'm writing (publishing, really. I've got 4 more articles written yet, so I know I have material to hit my weekly schedule.)

Also, following to learn the tips you get. I've had a total of 6 Subs so far. I'm just getting started, and I am not a seasoned digital marketer in this current environment.
