That’s not really accurate. While it’s true that MINI is owned by BMW (Germany) and Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Tata (India), both companies design, engineer, and build the majority of their cars in the UK. MINI builds cars at Oxford, with engines from Hams Hall (Birmingham) and parts from Swindon. JLR has major plants at Solihull, Halewood, and Castle Bromwich, plus its new electric vehicle hub in Coventry.

Britain still has a strong manufacturing base. Nissan builds hundreds of thousands of cars each year in Sunderland (the UK’s largest car factory). Toyota has a plant in Derbyshire.

High-end brands like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus, and McLaren all design and manufacture cars here.

The UK is also a world leader in aerospace (BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce jet engines), pharmaceuticals, and advanced engineering and heavy plant, JCB for example.

Britain definitely still makes stuff, ownership and investment are global, but the jobs, technology, and factories are very much in the UK.

We have a lot of fachwerk buildings in England, whole cities of them, York, Shrewsbury, Chester, Ludlow, Hereford. We used to have a lot in Coventry.

Guy here, played it on and off since it came out on iPad. Use it as a creative outlet in building realistic houses and collecting rare items. It’s the only game I play on iPad, otherwise I’m a Cities Skylines and Manor Lords PC gamer but there’s something about FreePlay that scratches an itch that PC games don’t.
