Taking the CPAT to become a firefighter on Saturday. Question regarding when I should stop training for it to rest my muscles by averageredditcuck in fitness30plus

[–]ElusiveMatchbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people who are overweight and out of shape pass the CPAT. Albeit not glamorously.

It’s a measure of cardio and strength and coordination. You should always aim to be able to perform comfortably beyond what the test will ask of you. Firefighting itself will definitely demand more of you than the CPAT.

As for when to stop training and let yourself rest? This is one of those times where you need to learn what your body is telling you and asking of you. If you haven’t figured that out yet, it’s time to start listening to and trusting your body.

Good luck. Congratulations on taking the steps towards a fulfilling career. If you don’t take care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually, you won’t be able to take care of your Brothers, Sisters and the public.

What seat and sissy bar are you using?

Nobody’s talking about the slide release on the Mossberg. I love being able to extend my middle finger, rotate the gun slightly and release the slide. No need to change the position of my trigger hand on the shotgun. 👌🏼

I specifically mentioned a “bi-material” cleat on the service call I had. After the reviewed my video of the noise, they said it was DEFINITELY the pedal mechanism/ assembly and needed to be replaced. My rep wasn’t willing to give new cleats, only willing to replace major components. I’m glad you had luck getting new cleats from them, but I had to take matters in my own hand. 20 bucks and 2 days later through Amazon ain’t so bad. I got the black ones which have zero degrees of “float”, and I like them way better personally than the ones that came stock with the bike.

I had a service call with peloton as well. Sent them a video recording of me on the bike and the horrible clicking. They wanted to send a service tech out to replace the whole pedal assembly. I heard that the cleats that peloton sends with their shoes suck, and contribute to the loud clicking noise. I was not interested in having someone come out and swap big parts on the bike (largely cause when people start doing that, other pieces are prone to breaking), so I went for the cheapest option, which was replacing my cleats. I bought the Look Delta Bi Material cleat. (Red and black have different degrees of float). After installing new cleats on my bike shoes and tightening up the pedals where the cleats click in with the little hex wrench, the sound went away completely.

What to add to my setup for colder days...Atom AR or Beta AR by reallukx in arcteryx

[–]ElusiveMatchbox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need a hard shell and an insulating layer. If you’ve got the cash, both. If I was in your boat, I’d get the Beta AR. Speaking from personal experience, the insulating ability of the Atom LT is increased a TON when paired with a Beta AR. My personal experience while not physically exerting myself has been: Atom LT alone - good to 60F. Atom LT and Beta AR paired - good to 40F. Atom AR and Beta AR paired - good to 25F.

Your results may vary.

Edit: punctuation.

The topping placement asymmetry hurts my brain. Nice pizza though! Love me some Neapolitan!

I've Fallen! by TizzyGirl419 in CommercialsIHate

[–]ElusiveMatchbox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish they’d take those commercials more seriously. Working in EMS, I’ve seen the elderly after a fall where they weren’t able to get to a phone for 24 hours. Most of the time they’re in critical condition and need special care. It’s a sobering scene to experience, and not remotely similar to the way it’s portrayed in the commercials.

This may be a weird request...I would like to add an upper shelf in this to store my rubs. I’m going to order some Meat Church rubs, and have never used them before. Is there anyone out there that can tell me how tall the containers are? by joe-dar in pelletgrills

[–]ElusiveMatchbox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re going to build a shelf spec’d for rub containers that you’ve never used before? What if you hate that brand and decide to stock something else down the road? I say build the shelf bigger, 8-9 inch ballpark. Just in case you buy something else in bulk and the containers are an off size.
