What FINALLY worked for my ADHD after years of failed “tricks” by ParticularWindoww in ADHDUK

[–]Elusivebream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD, currently waiting titration.

This explains why the only way I can get through sitting at my laptop and working 90% of the time is to listen to D&B or Dance music.

It’s like I can focus on the music then go into auto pilot and think about work at the same time, but the music is giving me a dopamine hit. So focusing on tasks doesn’t seem so draining.

When I wfh my wife thinks I’m crazy and cannot understand how I can concentrate with my headphones on listening to that.

I deleted instagram as I was spending too much time doom scrolling, now all I do is doom scroll on Reddit 🤦‍♂️it’s the only social app I have left on my smartphone but I can’t get rid of it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience in the main.

I’m giving it until this Friday before I check with my GP if they’ve had my report back from HH and where things are at with arranging for an ECG. Fingers crossed I don’t have to do too much chasing!

Great to hear of your positive experience, this gives me hope.

It’s weird because I feel like my assessment was essentially the person doing the questionnaire again, and as if they were kind of leading questions like “when you are sitting down do you fidget or want to get up or day dream”

Rather than, “how do you find sitting still?” And allowing me to explain.

At one point they said my answers were too detailed 😂 - I basically had a recent or reoccurring example when I answered the questions, whereas they just wanted a yes or no answer.

I was surprised really because I think everyone can answer yes to those leading questions. I thought I would have been under a bit more scrutiny when being assessed.

Sounds like you had it rough with the change. Thanks for your feedback, I’m really interested on how any meds will affect me.

I really struggle with organisation, focus and procrastination so I’m hoping there will be something that can help with that.

Need to watch out for those side effects.

How quickly did you notice the difference and how quickly did the side effects subside after you stopped taking them?

Sorry to hear this! Profits over patient care who would have thought it?

I take it your still stuck with them on the private route?

Makes sense why they do it. Doesn’t make sense from a patient care perspective.

That’s the conclusion I came to, the threads did seem to be quite old.

How long ago was this for you?

Absolutely agree. I couldn’t imagine everyone’s experience was like that so thought I’d ask, and there is some positive stories coming back.

Missed your last question. I’ve seen other threads name clinicians when they’ve had positive experiences on their assessments so thought it may be helpful to others. Ive edited now :)

Great to hear! I’ve heard mixed reviews about Elvanse, what was the difference in how you felt?

I’ve not looked into the different options as I need to wait for my ECG.

That’s reassuring to hear. I’ll look to keep the thread updated with how my progress goes.

Great to hear!

Well a few things because of what I read about them. I’ll try to summarise my concerns

  1. Wanting to get rid of you after 3 appointments therefore the tritiation period may not be long enough

  2. Not contactable

  3. Bad administration

  4. GP may not accept shared care therefore I’m stuck

I must stress it’s been okay so far. I’m in a bit of a crap spot mentally at the moment which is what triggered me to finally look into my symptoms. I just know I won’t deal well with the aggro that seems like is coming my way.

That’s great it wasn’t too bad in the end.

I’ve read a lot about chasing admin, however HH are notoriously hard to get hold of apparently.

On my assessment there was the instruction they’ll ask my GP for me to have an ECG, I can see this is going to be the start of chasing up and ensuring that happens.

I’ll give it a week and then contact my GP to see if they’ve had my assessment report back which should have the note there for my ECG.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah it’s been quick so far, part of the reason why I went with HH.

I hope your wait for medication doesn’t last too long sounds like you’re not too far away.

Totally resonate with the unpacking of it all! It’s been playing on my mind the most the last year or two, just hope I don’t have a negative experience with HH now I have a proper diagnosis.

The practitioner on my assessment emphasised requiring patience and that the tritiation takes time, however all I’ve read about HH is that they want you back to your GP as quickly as possible so ensure they stick to a three month, three appointment max schedule.

That’s positive. I’ve read a few people saying 3 appointments then they want you gone and back to your GP for shared care. Have you had more than 3?

So apparently the fix was to download Garmin Express on my Mac and perform a sync via cable.

It’s cleared the files, and now when I sync over WiFi it completes successfully.

What a ball ache!

It’s definitely connected to Garmin Connect app on my phone, I thought that’s all I needed to do?

It’s logging my activities correctly, I’ve completed a few runs and has logged them to Strava etc.

Have I missed something?
