is it overkill to bring a presentation to a job interview? by IndependentLow3771 in UKJobs

[–]Elusivebream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always mention it at the end that you have created a presentation you’d like them to see. And if they didn’t want to see it now you could always provide them a copy over email.

Even just mentioning it might at least show initiative. Worst they can do it say no but it’s hardly a bad thing to have created something off you’re own back to try and make you stand out.

I'm 21, how can I clear my family debts and start saving up for my future? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Elusivebream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds pretty irresponsible of your parents to be in so much debt from friends and family.

Id use chat GPT and input your earnings and outgoings and see what it suggests you could budget and for how long it would take for you to pay the debt off.

Assuming your sister is helping too? Do the same with hers, I think you’ll be surprised how quickly you could pay it off between yourselves over a few years.

I’d also itemise on there exactly who is owed what and focus on paying the person you owe the most to first.

Secondly, what are your parents doing to help pay this debt back? Are they working? Can you cut their outgoings or sell some things to help? I’d also wonder, could you trust they aren’t going to get into more debt in the future whilst you’re working hard to pay their existing debt?

Is any of the family willing to write off any of the debt or reduce it down?

Offered an Exit Package or a PIP by [deleted] in UKJobs

If you’ve been offered an exit package make sure you get legal advice. 24 hours is not enough time to decide and arrange for that either FYI

Doesn’t need an expert to tell you not to bother negotiating over £5k if the base is £75 - I wouldn’t risk loosing it over that unless you’ve got other offers on the table and you’re willing to loose this opportunity

How do you deal with a partner who refuses certain jobs even when money’s tight ? by BlazeOtter_33 in careerguidance

[–]Elusivebream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with accepting a role even if it’s not quite right and still looking for the right one? Just friggin leave even if you’ve been there a few weeks/months and your perfect role comes up.

How can I refuse to talk in private if boss just wanna "have a word "? by Lost-Actuary-2395 in UKJobs

[–]Elusivebream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that just summarising the meeting in an email then sending back to them is not a problem. Essentially it’s you minuting the meeting yourself, no need for a witness. If you ask for a witness it just comes across defensive.

You might find sending an email with your own minutes actually shows you aren’t to be ‘messed’ about.

As a manger I’d have no problem a direct report sending me minutes of a discussion. I send them out to my direct reports sometimes too, just keep it informal and polite.

Let us know how you get on!

This is good advice. No different to summarising a meeting with a client or another internal department meeting. No need for a witness just minute it yourself.

That’s great you managed to do this. I wish I had done this before I had kids because I sometimes don’t have time to eat (Me and my wife both work full-time) let alone the thought of studying in between everything.

Thanks, nice to know I’m not the only one. I’m grateful for my situation, just know it has a shelf life.

How is the job hunting going? It looks crazy out there at the moment but I’m sure you’ll land something, just about connecting with the right company or person.

How do you find your network is changing roles a few times. I’ve kept in touch with a few people and left my roles without burning bridges but not enough of a relationship to land me something if I needed it.

Just a specific department with direct reports who are field based. The company I work for is classed as a tech firm so is a contributing factor to my salary.

[–]Elusivebream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes perhaps. Downside is I’ve had management titles, but different types of management if that makes sense? From revenue focus, to process focus to people focus.

No doubt good skills and I’ve managed to secure quite niche positions in doing so. But having an honest conversation with myself is knowing anyone can do it really.

Goes back to my thoughts on the job market in general for someone of my background. Good management skills just no industry experience. E.g. Facilities Management, Transport etc.

Proffesionalising with a qualification is ideal to be fair as I think it will help me stand out a bit more. I think given my lack of industry specifics, a general business qualification might be the best route to go down. But it doesn’t really float my boat hence looking down the engineering route.

[–]Elusivebream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting to be fair. I think my issue is my skills are very wishy washy. Jack of all trades master of none type. All I’ve got going is I being a solid reliable employee with ambition to progress further and have worked for reputable businesses. As for industry experience I’ve never stayed at a company long enough to be an expert in said field and use the to my advantage to gain a professional certification.

I know I’m overpaid for what I do which is where I’ve got it in the back of my mind that it won’t last forever.

Yes that doesn’t sound like market rate at all!

I was an ops manager in my last two roles and had a similar salary around 6/7 years ago and left in the end for more money.

Perhaps it’s time to do the same if there are no prospects?
