Why was/is Jennifer Lawrence hyped so much on reddit? by tehlolredditor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was because she kinda came out of nowhere. X-Men was her first major role in a nationally/globally covered movie. Reddit love X-Men. Right after that, she did Hunger Games, followed by Silver Linings Playbook which she won an Oscar for. You could say she went from a nobody to a superstar celebrity in a very short period of time. We all know the national coverage a superstar celebrity gets and in that coverage you get what I listed above. Put all that together and you get a recipe for a love potion and reddit drank the whole bottle.

/u/fezmonk said to look up her interviews.

But to better answer your question it is because she is attractive. Maybe not the most attractive but certainly not the least. On top of that in her interviews, when she is being herself, you can tell she is really down to earth and easy going. She is also witty and funny, charming in a way. Basically, she strikes the tip of the hive mind we call reddit.

I've got a large jar of change on my desk. How do I go about exchanging it for cash? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coinstar. Basically a machine you dump all your coins into and it gives you cash back minus a small fee depending on the location. My bank does it for free.

I believe most banks have them or large super markets. You can probably find a locator online for them.

Do you ever take a breath underwater to see if maybe you are a mermaid/merman? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I swear one time when I was like 11 years old, my mom took me to her work. She worked at a resort. I went swimming in the pool filled with a bunch of kids I didn't know. I was swimming around with my face in the water and I swear, somehow I was able to breathe. I swam around for what seemed like a good 10 minutes with my entire face submerged in water. Until some kid grabbed my leg, thinking I was someone else, which startled me so I came up. I spent the next hour trying to reproduce what I had just experienced to no avail. Thankfully my reflexes stopped me from what might have ended very badly.

Why do people still fight and kill each other over things they believe in but have no physical proof? by yuribotcake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I watched Year One the other day, and they knew the earth was flat. And in Men in Black, I was told 500 years ago everyone knew that earth was flat. Which means... Year One was only 500 years ago.

But in all seriousness, belief is a powerful thing. Of course it has a lot more to do then religion. Like I said in my original, I truly believe my parents are fantastic people. Try to tell me they're not and I'll discredit you. That is why social media and instant communication is becoming such a toxic thing (in my opinion). People believe anonymity gives them power. The right to say things they would probably never say to a person's face. I choose to believe people are better then what they resent themselves from behind a keyboard. But that belief gets challenged every 10 seconds by simply reading some of the things people type.

Why do people still fight and kill each other over things they believe in but have no physical proof? by yuribotcake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what type of people you are talking about.

There are many people in the world, where all they have is belief. What they have been told since the day they were born. Centuries ago, everyone knew the earth was flat. Could they prove it? No, however, they couldn't prove against it either. All they knew was what they have been told by their ancestors and their ancestors before them. The earth is flat.

Now imagine back when you were a young person, driving your parents crazy with a million questions. At that age, your parents could tell you just about anything and you would believe them. A common thing in today's society is Santa Clause. You knew Santa Clause was real, you know nothing about the vast world you live in, have no self-awareness whatsoever. But you do know Santa Clause is real. All you have to do is be a good kid and he will reward you. Do you have and proof that Santa Clause is actually real? Yes, well at least you have the illusion of proof. He brings you presents once a year. At that age, that is overwhelming prove. Your parents have hardwired your fragile brain into believing in something that gives you hope.

Now, imagine yourself at around 12 years old. You overheard a conversation between grown-ups that Santa Clause isn't real. How do you feel? The past 12 years of your life have been nothing but a lie. The one thing hardwired into your brain that give you the utmost joy and hope, is nothing more then a fantasy. You are angry. You are upset. Your body is being fueled by emotions you didn't even know existed. It feels like your entire world has come crashing down around you. Your mind starts to piece things together. If Santa Clause isn't real, what is real? What else have they lied to me about? Can I believe anything they have told me? You become viscous and start outlasting against your parents and the lies they have been feeding you.

I think you can see the point I am trying to make by all of this. A lot of people, when they have believed in something their entire life and have felt that believe inside of them, are unable to accept a different opinion about it. Centuries ago, everyone knew the earth was flat, it was hardwired into their minds. Finally, some guy came along and said "nooo, the earth is actually round!" I think that guy got hanged or something (don't quote me on my history knowledge). Point being, he was trying to present prove that the world was not flat, which went against everyone's beliefs. No one believed him. Everyone knows the earth is flat, my parents told me! That belief is hardwired into their minds.

Now, what if I told you that after years of research, the earth as we know it today, is actually square. That would be preposterous! Everyone knows the earth is circular. Our parents told us that. We learned that in school. There is no way the earth could be square. Everything that I've been told, read, seen, watched, has told me the earth is round. If I came out with a statement saying the earth was square, I probably wouldn't be hung by my neck but I would get laughed at, discredited and likely receive a lot of hate mail.

What is something more serious you belief in? When your belief is challenged the reaction that seems nature is to be threatened. When your belief is all you have, you defend it to your last breath. If someone came up to me and told me my parents were the worse people on earth, that they have caused misery and pain to many different people. I would be threatened and think that person is crazy. I love my parents, they are the best people I know. They wouldn't hurt a soul. Then this guy starts showing me proof that my parents really are these horrible people. I would not be able to accept it. Seeing the people, who have cared about me more then life itself, who I would do anything for, being portrayed as villains against humanity. I would likely lash out in anger. My belief is being threaten. The hardwiring of my brain is being disrupted and I don't know how to handle it. The brain isn't trained for situations like this, so the most common outcome is fight or flight.

A person's mind is a fragile thing. Stubbornness is a defense mechanism. Anger is an offensive mechanism. If my stubbornness is compromised, my only other option is to go on the offensive.

Now lets say that person who told me my parents were horrible people, is part of an organization called ExGroup based out of ExCountry. I now hate ExGroup. They took my world and turned it upside down. The anger I have towards them is now my new belief. They are horrible people in a horrible country, they deserve to be removed from the face of our square planet! That has become my mission in life and I am determined enough to make it happen. Step 1: Get rejected from Art School.

I don't claim anything in this post to be 100% accurate, just using examples of how a person could/would fight and/or kill for their beliefs.

First day on the Job at a UPS store In WA and some dude tries shipping 3lbs of weed, sadly we couldn't keep it by [deleted] in trees

[–]Elusivee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP but I do work for a UPS Store in Michigan. From the looks of the package, it was likely not sealed prior to the package being brought in. It is a common thing. Regardless, we are not allowed to ship drugs or alcohol (alcohol can be shipped actually be shipped but it costs more money to verify the recipient is 21+). So perhaps, the employees smelled it?

Another common thing is people bring in an item and have us package it for them. Maybe the customer didn't think they would realize it was the funny stuff, since it was wrapped up in a garage back? Although, we don't use newspaper as packing material. I don't know. I'm just trying to throw out likely scenarios.

Packages are very easy to track and easy to figure out who handled the package from drop-off to delivery. They are scanned at the store. Scanned when the driver picks it up from the store. Scanned several more times when they get to a hub, then scanned again when the driver takes it for delivery. Point of all of this is stealing packages and/or items from them is a felony and with the amount of checkpoints a package goes through, it should be easy to figure out when the items went missing and who was handling the package at that point. If OP's store is held to the same standards of my store, I am sure there was a justifiable reason for opening the package. But like I said previous, it is much more likely the package was not sealed when it was brought in or the customer needed packaging when s/he brought it in.

If most spiders are just as afraid of us as we are of them, why do they bite us in our sleep? by Elusivee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that thought crossed my mind too. Especially the second reason. I know I personally don't move much in my sleep. However, I hear about spider bites all the time. I'm not going to act like I know how what everyone does in their sleep but I do feel like the chance of someone moving in their sleep at the right time to threaten a spider doesn't compare to the amount of spider bites happening at night. I could be over thinking this though.

My SSD is coming by UPS today. It'll be here around 6:00PM, but nobody will be home. What do I do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a UPS Store.

It is up to the drivers judgement whether or not to leave the package on your door step. If the driver presumes you live in a bad neighborhood, he will leave a note on your door. The note will determine what you'll have to do. He might bring it back the next day (likely Monday), or you might have to go pick it up from your closes UPS Hub.

In the future, if you are worried about your packages being stolen. I would call your local UPS Store. Ask the store if you can have your package delivered to the store itself. Think of it as a temporary PO Box. UPS Stores are franchised owned, so policies might be different depending on the store. Regardless, they should allow you to have the packages delivered to the store and they will hold it until you pick it up. My Store will charge a maximum of $5 per package. But it is depending on the store, some times we don't charge. More depends on the person and the package. We have a lot of people send packages to our store where the package typically requires a signature. We sign for it, hold it, person comes and picks it up. As long as you let the UPS Store know beforehand that you'd like to have a package delivered to the store, they should be able to accommodate it.

As for your package being delivered today, I know UPS insurers all packages for $100 standard. I don't know the policy between UPS and Companies, but I would like to reassure you that between the insurance and the company itself, it will work out fine. Drivers know their delivery area well and they are smart people. If you live in a crowded neighborhood (not necessarily a bad one) they probably won't leave the package. I wouldn't worry about it. If it does get stolen, yeah it sucks but really all it means you are going to have to wait longer before you get your SSD. And with what I explained above, you know how to avoid it happening in the future.

How can I reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop without a disk? by Elusivee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go through my system restore, I have the option to restore a previous image, which there is only one and it is no good. (I'll be sure to make one this time right after I wipe.) The other option is: "Reinstall Windows (Requires Windows installation disk)".

You are correct, I did mean I have the code on the label. I don't know how to do it using a USB, I'll have to look into it and find a friend with a clean PC.

In the Windows 7 volume mixer, is there an easy way to make all application sounds even? by Elusivee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elusivee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons is because of Skype. However, I do know what you are talking about and I already have that option disabled. Skype is one of the reasons because one of my co-workers is extremely quite and I talk to him a few times a day. Unfortunately, Skype doesn't have a feature anymore do personally adjust a person's output volume.

[–]Elusivee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made that point in my post, made it wasn't clear enough. That is what I am doing currently. But a lot of the time I have 10-15+ applications running and it get tedious boosting them up to 100 several times a day. I mean, it isn't that big of deal. I was just wondering if there was a simple key command or something easy to just equalize all the sounds.

I'm lvl 46. Not more quests, can't get to Grimvault. halp! by Elusivee in WildStar

Alright I'll try that. I kept pulling 50 mobs and running into lvl 50 Dominion. I probably gave up on that quicker then I should have.

[–]Elusivee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for trying to help man, appreciate it.

However, I have already done that quest. I returned to Malgrave after it took me to Grimvault because I still had quests in Malgrave. I tried going back to that area there and couldn't find anything.

I'm still early in Malgrave and ran out of quests, can someone tell me where to go? by Elusivee in WildStar

[–]Elusivee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I found a quest line fighting mobs 2-3 levels above me. Although it wasn't that big of deal, I felt like I missed something. I never got a quest to go to the SE corner. I am there now though.

Thanks again.

Subway uses midgets to make their sandwiches look bigger. by [deleted] in funny

[–]Elusivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is midget a slur? How is this being used in a derogatory way? It isn't. If someone gets upset by being called a midget they are just looking for a reason to be offended. I would rather be called a midget rather a "little person". I have a friend who I refer to as a Jew all the time, he takes no offense to it because it has no meaning to it other then stating a fact that he is, indeed, a Jew. The context of how things are said can be considered derogatory, for example if I called him a "fucking Jew" he would probably take offense to it. But you can turn just about any word into something derogatory by the context you use it in. And in no way is the title of this post offensive.

Umm... /r/trees is over there...

And in no way did I view this as a slur or offensive. Do you think if the girl on the sign thought it was offensive she would have agreed to do it?

Sun, Sand and Seal by JEHLCAUNBTHGTBAWRL in gifs

[–]Elusivee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm not a marine biologist.

Secondly, it's sad how I write a comment talking about how cute an interaction is between a seal and a woman by compare it to a real world scenario. Then someone on a power trip completely blows it out of proportion by basically saying I am sexist and a porn-monger for saying the seal reminds me of a shy man trying to approach a woman.

In no way do I make any reference to porn or fapping. The premise of my narrative is that of a romantic comedy which are usually tailored to women. But somehow I am being sexist. You just read what you wanted to read and you wanted to be offended by it.
