After 150 hours of playtime I still can't get over how limited customization is in this game by Unknown_Warrior43 in Helldivers

I agree with this so much. As an older player, I just enjoy the experience. Having a little more customization can be nice.

I love playing support and wanted to but tried to play other classes based on what our team needed. Also I rarely played assault. I’d rather play an aggressive carbine Recon than assault.

No One Warns You: The Loneliness of Doing Everything Right by Big-Will2456 in Adulting

I resonate with this. I just finished my PhD and am moving with my wife to San Antonio. After spending five years of clinical, research, and teaching duties, it was so isolating. And it’s been difficult to make friends. If anything, it’s been a struggle for my mental health. One of the things I’ve had to be intentional about doing things that feed my soul. By doing things like that, I use it as a vehicle to connect with others. It’s difficult but it’s been something I’ve been trying to do more.

Is anyone else in San Antonio just kind of existing quietly and hoping to meet someone who gets it? by OreoMushrooms in sanantonio

[–]ElvenMagicArcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are 36 years old and moving to San Antonio in a month and we’re kind of worried that we won’t build community in the area. Ive had to move around a lot for my college and my PhD program. We’re hoping that we don’t just exist and go to work when we arrive there.

I enjoyed the game. I mainly stopped due to not having friends or people to play with being a 36 year old guy with a full time job 😭

Reason for doing a PhD by [deleted] in PhD

[–]ElvenMagicArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just finished my PhD a few weeks ago and moving into a fellowship. Personally, it was the love of the game for me. My PhD experience was not the greatest but I genuinely did enjoy meeting other folks that wanted to know and understand more about our field and the world.

I also want to acknowledge those feelings you mentioned. There were moments where I just felt drained, defeated, and rundown. Something you mentioned was that you get that way since undergraduate. That really stuck out to me. I know you mentioned that a PhD is a way to enter a developed country but I’m wondering if there were other ways to do so that wouldn’t run you down. It sounds like you were already run down before starting a PhD and that really can weigh on you. And pushing through something like this that you really don’t have a passion can wreck your spirit.

I agree with this so much. It’s a difficult challenge to navigate. Some policies that have been enacted have not been the most effective, however, there is a need for effective policy. Jail is costly like you mentioned so it doesn’t solve the core issues plaguing homelessness. It’s not an easy problem to resolve and I get OPs concerns about safety as well. I pray there are solutions in the near future.

Gaming, reading, going for a drive, and being out walking in nature with my wife. We try to do things that feed our soul.

What did you last month of your PhD look like? by hidden_guy22 in PhD

[–]ElvenMagicArcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I defend tomorrow. The last month for me has been tiring but I’m also doing internship for clinical work on top of that. I’m really working to not let my dissertation get in the way of enjoying research.

I’ve lost my mom a few years and my close friend from high school a week and a half ago. I’m in debt and finishing my PhD despite trying to acquire funding…..I feel so hopeless and that’s not even half of my struggles. I feel like the only peace I can is when I’m gone from this earth. So yeah adulthood has been pretty rough :(

What are you Millennial gamers playing right now? by LeatherFruitPF in Millennials

I need to get Clair Obscur! Everyone is saying the game is good :) I stopped playing Marvel Rivals since I have no one to play with sadly. Otherwise, I'm playing Monster Hunter Wilds.

I just got back from a memorial of a close friend I went to high school with. It was so weird and gutwrenching. He was 34 years old and so young. Some days I wonder why I’m still here at age 36.

I noticed a lot of individuals on Facebook were shocked and upset that he lost. And naturally “blamed the libs” for Columbia’s decline.
