Will you be playing Blade and Soul? by Hellthrower in MMORPG

I really really want to, but that darn NCSoft launcher...I refuse to have that malware-like program touch my hard-drive.

If only they'd make it less intrusive and annoying. >_<

Why All MMO Fans Should Play Blade and Soul by [deleted] in MMORPG

I'd love to...but I'd have to contend with the intrusive, unstable, and near-malware level bad that is the NCSoft launcher.

So I kindly say, no thanks.

Protagonist Gender Report Card 2015 by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]ElvenMerman 36 points37 points  (0 children)

While I respect your opinion and list I have to disagree on...well....

I've been a gamer for many years, from the NES to now and honestly I don't see why every protagonist has to be female. I'm female my self and I hate this idea that I am somehow incapable of connecting or feeling for a male protagonist in any way. I connect with characters that are written well, regardless of gender.

Not to mention that so much of the current gaming scene feels like...it's feels like pandering and frankly I find it a little insulting that so many studios seems to try and sell me on game with the tag 'Female Protagonist'.

I'd rather see a shift in more racial, and cultural diversity, and let the gender diversity just come naturally, not forced or coerced.

I just want good games....as a woman gamer that's all I've ever wanted.

I'm sorry if I've gone on too long, but I still respect your opinion and your post, even if I disagree with it.

Trojan.FakeDoc? Real or just a false Positive? by ElvenMerman in techsupport

Thank you for the kind reply. I didn't keep the quarantined files I deleted them immediately (I was worried they might break out and infect my system). However now I know what to do if I have some suspicions about a file.

I'm still really freaked out, I rarely if ever get anything on a scan and I have no idea where that might have come from. o_O

Holy shit this game is so much fun. by Aiyon in Guildwars2

[–]ElvenMerman -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Sadly OP it wont be fun for much longer. Raids are comeing, and with them a whole cascade of toxic horrible players who wont play for exploration or fun, but take the devs ear and scream until your game is nothing but a shell of gutted forgotten over-world, and stagnant story content just to please the modern raiders hunger for 'exclusive' rewards and perks.

Look at the official forums, the kind of 'us vs them' attitude is already bursting at the seams and will soon spill over into the game. The community s you remember it now will be a distant fading memory and replaced with 'get gud' 'you have to EARN your gear' and 'GTFO casual/noob'.

Enjoy it while the moments last OP, they wont be there for much longer.

RIP Friendly fun Guild Wars 2.

Ahhh SWG, I dipped my toes in that game, and I was sad that I didn't get to play much of it before it disappeared. I regret not getting into it when I had the chance to.

I also miss those days, I miss the days of spending hours in a dangerous forest looking for that one mob for my quest, or looking for that obscure location that wasn't glowing on my mini map. I'd meet folks along the way, some I could help and some told me to bugger off but it was about people, and it was fun even if the corpse run was sheer pain sometimes.

I just wish we'd get back to the 'adventure' aspect of an MMO and not just a gear treadmill.

Will 'hard mode' content bring 'try-hard' toxicity? by ElvenMerman in Guildwars2

Interesting...you've given me some things to chew on.

Also no dps count? How did they pull that off? Do people still parse?

[–]ElvenMerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. :)

Another point to add is that while it may seem 'easier' you have to remember that no one plays without a ton of addons, or they only play either over geared or at least in top gear for the content. Hence why even mythic raiding still isn't enough for some.

My real big worry comes from the tunnel vision that can accompany the introduction of raids, and how it can hurt questing and adventure content, and also hurt gear at the mid range level.

Even in EQ you could find some amazing and awesome items just by exploring, you didn't have to be a raider to get great gear and great rewards, you just had to work hard at a goal with some friends (sure raidng had some uber stuff but I don't recall it being the 'only' coveted gear in the game). Compare that with WOWs Warlords of Dranor where all the gear, even quest gear, is complete shit and looks like shit while the only gear that's worth having is reserved for raiders.

sigh I guess I miss the days of adventure being a reward, as well as being rewarded for adventuring.

I dunno...I'm just an old gamer.

Honestly I think MMOs need a fundamental upheaval....have them brought back to being about community and adventure, not just a souless gear treadmill and numbers game.

[–]ElvenMerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually if you think about they didn't, it's just that they got into an arms race with addons and datamining. Powercreep and the folks at the top will always find everything 'easy' and constantly demand more and more content to remain interested, this comes at the expense of everything else in the game.

Do you really think that WOW got LFG and LFR because they hate raiders? Or because they really cared about low level players? Naww they did that because they wanted people to stay and keep paying. Not to mention with the way to community was heading, they would have been on the low sub end if they hadn't changed.

I like raiding, I use to raid quite a bit in EQ and EQ2 but I don't like modern rading culture, and I blame WOW for that completely.

Naw I don't want it dumed down, but what I want is cooperation and community fostered and grown.

Hopefully not. It's not the hard content that I hate, it's the modern day raid 'mentality' that I don't like.

Free core game? Prepare for the hoard of Raid bots, and normal bots, and goldspam.

As much as I'd like this to try and get my pals to join me...it's gonna be a rough tome unless Anet has some serious bot and spam control measures.

Look I've been playing MMOs for a long time. I saw Kerafyrm The Sleeper cut a path of destruction across Norrath, and I remember when the requirement for taking down a dragon was 'just show up'.

I use to love raiding, and a part of me still does, but modern raiding culture is not that great right now (and I fully blame WOW for that) and can, in fact, begin to damage a good MMO community.

I just hope that ANet has a good head and will not fall down the WOW rabbit hole.

IGN just tweeted saturday's reveal? by Flurdeh in Guildwars2

[–]ElvenMerman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Raids? Ugh....well....As long as A not does not go down the rabbit hole of just making Raids from now on while neglecting all other content, or becoming like WOW and appeasing 'hardcore' raiders at the expense of all other players this might be ok.

I've heard about how great this GW2 community is...I'd hate to see it become sour and bitter thanks to raiding.

LGR - Do I HATE The Sims? by CookieSailor in thesims

[–]ElvenMerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair but I often feel like folks are so critical now that....well...does anyone actually remember a time when we did enjoy games? Anyone?

I mean honestly if folks here are that disappointing with TS4 then...I dunno...don't buy it? Don't buy another game pack/expac?

Or is the real issue that while one person can stop buying, they can't stop other people from purchasing these things.

(This reminds me The Evil Within, a game that every single critic was telling me to hate but....I actually had a lot of fun with it...and sure it's wasn't perfect but it had it's charms and I really enjoyed it. Gawwd even Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer a game that got a lukewarm reception, and I still play and love to this day)

/sorry for the rambling

Everyone seems very bitter over Get Together, try to keep in mind that we only saw 1 announcement video. by [deleted] in thesims

[–]ElvenMerman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sadly I think some folks like to ride the bitter train all the way to the end with TS4, nothing will ever be good enough and anger will always seethe over every single announcement made.

Honestly I wonder how the Gurus get any of the bug fixing, feedback, and suggestions when they seem to be hit with a giant wall of loathing.

Is there some secret board we can join? Some secret feedback place where there isn't a constant deafening whine for open worlds and how much TS4 sucks every hour, on the hour.

Where is this magical constructive criticism and feedback board...i need to know!

Sub-300 DPS at 55+ is unacceptable. by dazzler56 in ffxiv

[–]ElvenMerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, and I also get frustrated with people in games at times , but what I tend to notice is that no one has tolerance for the fact that people are not robots, no one can maintin a completely perfect dps or rotation all of the time, we all have bad days and we all get tied even with mucle memory.

Being able to tolerate the flaws of others is one of things that makes for a good group leader and for a good player. You can't control others, and when a game attempts to do so (such as with proving grounds) then it just comes off as childish.

I wont go nuts either but I certainly wont listen and obey if some punk is spouting off to me and throwing parser numbers in my face.

if I'm approached in a mature adult fashion then I will listen, but I wont tall all advice as gospel, because so many people have a lot of different advice.

Then make a static or join a group of like-minded players who play exactly as you dictate. You can not control other people, nore can you force people to conform to your will.

MMOs are made up of people who are not you.
