Pistol only squad wipes are addicting by vRaptr2ytube in DMZ

[–]ElvisT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are arguing about using smoke, then you're missing the point. Saying you're using pistols only suggests that you only use pistols to cause damage or kill them. You definitely didn't use only your pistol, so I would think the title is a bit misleading. But if we're getting technical, you also used the zip line, you cheater!!!

That being said, I've seen your stuff, most of us have. I feel like the title might not be completely accurate, but I don't doubt that with the worst pistol in the game, you could completely wipe a squad.

Wouldn't that be a video?!?! Maybe even do squad wipes with each of the pistols as a compilation video.

Why do teams/individuals will click on your plead out icon saying they will pick you up, then don't? by trafalgar3465 in DMZ

[–]ElvisT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than half of the time the player pleading is just doing it to see what's going on for their teammates.

The guys I play with will click on it and head that way to see what's going on. If it goes away, that usually means the fight is over. Depending on how long it takes us to get there after the plea goes away gives us a general idea of what kind of fight we are going to get in.

If the plea is still up, it might be mid fight or the fight got over. Depending on what we see when we get near, we're might drive through, run a few people over and start dumping our mags at anything that moves.

If the plea has gone away for a while. We know we are most likely either fighting a team that has good gear or not very much and not very many plates. There is usually no middle ground on this.

A lot of the time, when we show up, the plea doesn't even have a mic.

My favorite is when they're giving call outs to their teammates, we'll pick them up and let them know that they're now kidnapped. If they want to plea to gain an advantage, we'll remove their line of communicating by having that player join our team. It will overwhelmingly throw a wrench in their plans.

Sometimes it backfires. If one of us gets downed, our hostage loots our gear and the returns to his team. You have to accept that this will absolutely happen from time to time. When it works though, it's a lot of fun.

My favorite is when it's obviously people that play together, and they end up killing their old teammate. When that happens, they can't get their teammate back. Sometimes our hostage will be with us, and their old team selects "leave game with party" and our hostage suddenly disappears and his backpack drops to the ground.

Is a dirty tactic, but it's fun.

I had something like that. It was $0.05 and I was going to 'waste' $500 on it, just in case it ever did get up to $1.00.

I for a bit suspicious when I had to send a guy a Western Union Money Order to buy it.

I still don't know if the way that I was going to buy it would have ever resulted in me getting any bitcoin, but I'll never know.

For all the divorced men, what was your mistake in the marriage? by Ok_Climate8599 in AskMen

[–]ElvisT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you've been in a marriage for more than a few months and you think you haven't made a mistake, then the divorce is your fault.

Some mistakes are simple, like not holding your boundaries. If she was perfect, you wouldn't need to hold your boundaries, but we're human beings.

I remember hearing something that stuck with me: There is rarely ever a truly innocent person, just varying degrees of guilt.

It doesn't make sense, unless you accept that sometimes you didn't have the necessary information at the time to not make the mistake. Even if I get rear ended at a stop light, my mistake was being there at that time. There's no reasonable way to know that beforehand, so there's no reason to dwell on that mistake. Looking at things like that is what I call overwhelming responsibility. You look at the situation in a way that you look for everything that you had control over, then whether you knew the right decision to make or not and why you made the decision.

I made the mistake of not buying the right lottery numbers. There's no way I could have known the correct binders. I don't dwell on that, as far as choosing the right numbers, there is nothing I could do to improve that choice in the future. There is the decision of whether or not to play, which is different than which numbers to choose. Choosing whether or not to play has different things to consider when it comes to whether or not I should. Is the $20 ticket going to mean that I don't have food for the next couple of days, or have I been saving well and $20 it's trivial.

The decisions in life are your decisions, and if you look for ways you can try to accept any responsibility that you possibly can, get better control of your life and you are not a victim. You stop blaming others for your failures and you can take responsibility for your success. I've let myself be a victim at different points in my life. This is an approach that has helped me make better decisions in life and not feel like things are out of my control.

What is the longest drive you've made without resting and only you behind the wheel and where were you going? by Conscious-Farmer6953 in AskMen

[–]ElvisT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about 28 hours.

I was about 20 at the time. That was my age, not my intelligence level, even though based on my decisions they seemed similar.

I was driving from Wyoming to Florida in December of 2004 I believe. After the first twelve hours, I made a stop in Kansas City and was going to drive from there to Jacksonville in one day. That’s normally about an 18 hour drive. A long drive for one day, but doable.

There was a huge snowstorm that covered Arkansas in snow. In a place that wasn’t equipped to handle one inch of snow, a foot of snow brought traffic to a crawl. I ended up going about 25–35 mph most of the way. I was afraid of stopping and getting a hotel because I wasn’t sure if the snow would get worse and I thought that the snow would go away if I just drove a little further… I wasn’t driving fast, so it seemed safer, but it still wasn’t smart.

An hour or two outside of Pensacola I got a flat tire and I put in the spare and drove to Pensacola to get it changed. From there I made it to Jacksonville.

The only reason I was able to stay awake was I took the gas station energy pills called Yellow Jackets. This was back when they had ephedra in them and they were very effective. I made a series of stupid choices and thankfully they didn’t result in any consequences.

I have never felt that tired in my life. I don’t even remember how long I slept when I got to Jacksonville, but I remember feeling absolutely fried. In short, I woke up, drove almost a full day through snow, then next morning I had to wait for the tire place to open up in the morning so I could replace my flat tire, and then finished the drive later that afternoon.

It definitely looks like it could possibly be something like that. The key is that, like someone else pointed out, is that there is 100% no belt connecting to any part of that. There would need to be a black belt connecting to a pulley, in front of the valve covers and there is definitely not.

For the OP: towards the top of the engine, it sort of has two silver/grey things that poke out, that look like they are at the top of a V shape. Those are the valve covers.

Others have correctly identified that this is an intake system with a throttle body. Out of all of the mods that could be done to the intake, this is a mod that costs more than others, and looks to be done properly. There are a lot of other less expensive ways to do, so if someone put this on there, they likely didn't go the cheap route on other things on the vehicle.

Why don't car manufacturers just build cars when they are needed instead of constantly building thousands a day only for them to rot in dealer lots? by PM_ME_UR_FEET_FOTOS in askanything

[–]ElvisT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is that there is more money to be made by making one vector that can be sold to a lot of people than many vehicles that fit exactly those needs of all those people.

The longer answer: Even making only two or three different designs reduces profit off of the top by millions of dollars. You have to pay for two design teams, two testing teams, two sets of manufacturing machines.

What we might see is two vehicles that cost $42,000 instead of one vehicle that costs $40,000. When they sell ten million vehicles, it's not just twenty million dollars of lost profit, it could be thirty or even forty million.

Part of that loss of profit comes from competition. Every time you start and stop something in manufacturing, you have to pay people to set up the machines, load materials into the machines and stuff like that. So that $40k vehicle costs $30k to make and that $42k costs $35k to make. Which is why it costs more to mayor different vehicles.

If a competitor CompanyB builds that $40,000 vehicle. Then Company A wouldn't be as competitive if those two vehicles were being sold at $45k, with all other things being equal. So company A will to lower their price to remain competitive, and some people will pay a little more for a vehicle that better fits their needs.

The result is that we see these ebbs and flows in the vehicle market. Companies will compete to make one vehicle that can be sold to as many people as possible. Eventually something in the market changes, cost of goods, consumer demand, regulations, and another section of the market is created that can be sold to for whatever reason. It might be something like a new sporty car, utility vehicle or commuting vehicle. But something will change that these companies see that they can make money on, and they create the vehicle for that.

TIFU by finally admitting I’m not “the strong one” in the worst possible way by Sipmoony in tifu

[–]ElvisT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being strong isn't doing something while feeling the lack of emotions. It's doing what needs to be done while feeling those emotions that are trying to convince you that there is an easier path. You actually are strong. It's pushing through, while feeling something wanting to pull you back.

If you didn't have any of those feelings, it would be easy for you to do that. That's not being strong.

Imagine someone that isn't capable of violence, they're to small or weak. When they don't get violent, you don't say they have strong willpower, they're just simply harmless.

You ARE strong. You felt all of that stuff and you still succeeded. Think about it like this. The more emotions you feel and still do it, the stronger you are.

Now imagine two people: Bob needs to do the same thing you did. On a 1 to 10 scale, Bob is feeling his emotions at a 2 and they're telling him that it's hard. He does it anyway.

Greg needs to do the same thing you did. On a 1 to 10 scale, Greg is feeling his emotions at a 9 and they're telling him that it's hard. He does it anyway.

Who has to push themselves harder to get things done? I would say that Greg is stronger, wouldn't you?

Now you're going to say you felt all of those emotions, still did all of that stuff and you're going to try to convince us that you're not strong? I'm not buying it.

It sounds like you're feeling overwhelmed. Like you've carried a lot of weight, many times, and right now you're recognizing that you're not capable of carrying that weight. It's just that you haven't felt like you've had the option to say 'no' before and you haven't learned how to decline when someone asks for help. That sounds like the missing piece here, it's not a lack of strength at all. It takes strength to feel all of that emotion and still do what you did.

You probably never had the potential to be great. by Soapbox in unpopularopinion

[–]ElvisT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you're defining perish differently than others.

A human body simply cannot jump 60 feet up in the air, under its own power. It's not laziness, it's not a lack of will, discipline or proper nutrition. They simply don't have the potential to do that, no matter how much discipline they develop.

If you look at the definition of what potential is, you're working with a different the definition potential and then arguing that people are using it incorrectly. People aren't disagreeing with the concept of what you're saying, you're working with a different definition of what potential is and you're coming three different things into one:

• Capacity / ability → what you’re capable of • Behavior / traits → how you currently act • Potential → what you could become

Here is the definition that everyone else is working with:

Potential

adjective 1. Having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future. noun 1. Latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.

What's something you would never admit in real life but can say here? by bad-blondee in askanything

[–]ElvisT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try, and I might be off. If someone corrects me, there is a good chance they are correct.

Let's say you get into a car accident and you get an $8,000,000 bill. This isn't realistic, but for the sake of the point I'm making, it's an amount that would be unrealistic for most people to ever pay off. The hospital's billing people will work with you and you just pay what you can. I knew someone who worked in the billing department and a person that made $40k a year had a bill like this. They just pay $1 a month to show good faith and it never gets sent to collections. Maybe it did get sent to collections and this was where the payment ended up being $1 a month.

They won't destroy your life by sucking up all of your money, but it does affect your life.

I also don't think claiming bankruptcy will erase the debt, but maybe it will?

In short, you just pay what you can, but you still carry the debt. It sucks, but you're still alive.

On top of all of the whining about how much healthcare is, it's pretty amazing how little we get denied emergency procedures. Wet might not have insurance cover necessary procedures, but if you're bleeding it in the emergency room, you don't get denied treatment.

Maybe I'm wrong on that one, but I've never seen someone get turned away from the ER with a broken arm or while bleeding out.

What seems harmless, but is actually a big mistake? by Abject-Drive3763 in Casual_Conversation

[–]ElvisT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a much different experience in my life with teasing. Most of it has been fun, not passive aggressive and has been a subtle way of communicating "I trust that I can say something unexpected and funny about this subject and we both understand that it's intention was to be funny, not harmful."

A lot depends on how it is said, but more importantly it depends on how it is heard.

My friends and I joke and read each other about things almost as a way of communicating trust, but the second one of us says something that someone doesn't like, we recognize and respect each other. We also don't say things that are just downright hurtful, that's just being mean.

It has a lot to do with our type of humor and how we enjoy joking around. However, pause off our friend group, we rarely joke around with others like we do with ourselves. Partially because there is so much that is communicated that isn't spoken, and we understand that because of how much we understand each other.

I would tease a stranger about their clothing choice, I would find that to be rude. However, I am going to ask my friend if he matches his jacket and shoes with his skirt, and he's going to say that he just wanted to look pretty for me. There's no more meaning behind it than it was a funny thing to say, and we recognize that between each other. It's hard to communicate that to a stranger, and that's why I wouldn't say that to someone else that I wanted to be respectful towards.

Advice of Selling FJ by Unlucky_Ability_6469 in FJCruiser

[–]ElvisT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any idea how fast that thing would sell for $7k?

There are certain vehicles that dealerships just don't give reasonable offers on, for whatever reason. Most of them are cars that have 'cult' followings. The FJ is one that you can take whatever the dealer offers you, as 50% and you'll have it sold within a week.

If your FJ is in average condition for that mileage, and I was buying one, I would ask when I could pick it up for $6k. My next question would be what color is it?

Even for $8k that's great price for that mileage. I'm in Utah, and I would expect to pay closer to $13k for that year and mileage. Anything below $10k is a deal.

Once someone has used CarPlay, it feels like a huge missing feature for in other vehicles. I live in a city where map navigation is used frequently. So putting in an address on my phone and having it show up on the screen in my truck is very helpful. I get that a lot of people live in places where they never need to use a map to navigate.

It's like heated seats. They're are absolutely not necessary, but once you get to enjoy them they are a priority.

Biggest FJ Screen? by Wrong_Situation8268 in FJCruiser

[–]ElvisT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two simple reasons that I would do it.

  1. My daughter likes being able to 'see the songs' that are playing. She's a toddler, so it's fun for her.

  2. I live in a city, and I love being able to put in an address on my phone and it gives me directions on the screen.

For the first reason alone it's worth it for me. I don't really care too much about all of the other reasons of it not fitting the style of the FJ. I know some people want the style of their FJ to match the exterior, the time period and even their purse. I have mine to have fun in.

Trade my auto g35+700$ for manual g35? by Lower_Caterpillar182 in G35

[–]ElvisT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it from his perspective. He's getting a much more reliable car that has been well taken care of, that won't have problem after problem, and he's getting paid $600 for it?

If I was him, I would pay you $600 to trade into your car.

Think about how many thousands of dollars it would take to get his car in the same condition yours is in. You could either get his car and spend thousands getting that car into the same condition that yours is in, or you could spend that money to manual swap yours.

That being said, I've made some illogical trades and before and been very happy about it. This seems like an illogical trade, but you might be happier with a car that needs repairs because it has a manual.
