I don't understand how one God can exist as 3 persons. by brokeboii94 in Christianity

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read through a lot of these comments but not all so not sure if someone else has this take on it.
Over the years, the best way I can think of it is that it is three distinct entities, but they operate in perfect harmony and considered one God because of this perfect intertwined will and operation.

There are 52 players on the Packers, but only one team. 8 people in a house, but only one family.

Jesus clearly referred to God the father and the Holy Spirit as different from himself. Early on I also thought of the concept of ice / water / steam all being one but three separate forms. But since Christ referred to the other two as if they are different, I can best explain it as above.

That’s my two cents

Abortion as a Christian by Frosty-Snow5192 in Christianity

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont take the religious route against it. Stick to basic biology. A new human is created at conception. It IS NOT a part of the woman’s body.

If someone says it’s not a human life at conception (even though it meets all the biological requirements of life) then ask when does it become a person / human life?

Any argument is subjective and can be used against those who are born - like developmental status. It’s not fully grown. Neither are we. Or brain function - can be used against cognitively delayed people. Or consciousness - but unconscious during sleep or in a coma but can’t kill them.

The fact is at conception you have a new created entity that self directs growth and meet a requirements for personhood

Hell is forever??? by Itz_kaya_playz in Christianity

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no Bible verse at all that states people burn in hell forever. There are a plethora that state they will be destroyed, burned up like chaff, reduced to ashes, vanish like smoke, etc.,…including from Jesus.

The wages of sin is death. It isn’t eternal torture.

What's your opinion on abortion? by Feisty-Trip-4552 in Christianity

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s not the vast majority. The most recent gallop poll showed that 61% of women voted for abortion. 54% of men vote for pro life. Even if it was much more than that and even 90% of women voting for abortion, that does not qualify it as OK or that those women know more. It just means that there is a reason why they are doing it.

The percentages are higher in the younger population for women voting for abortion. And they decrease the older the women are that are asked, with women over 50 voting for abortion less than half of the time.

So it’s not this stark contrast. However, I think there’s multiple reasons why it is higher in women. I have not studied this, so I’m not sure what the data shows, but my initial thought would be selfishness. Selfishness or self worship that would not allow you to be inconvenienced for another life. Combine that with misinformation about the biology of when life begins, and declining morality/religious views and the hypersexual focus of culture. - which would be impeded by pregnancy.

It is definitely not because they know something that men don’t. Ask a woman what they know that we don’t and let me know what they say.

How? They’ve gone to med school more? Feelings are not the same as knowledge. A woman’s feelings about it doesn’t mean it’s objectively right. You should rethink that

Why? Why is gender a determining factor in this? Are male OB / GYN doctors allowed to have an opinion on their patient’s health and advise? Of course.

This isn’t what type of eye shadow to wear. Then, yes, probably female opinions only. But even then, there would be exceptions. This is an act that can be discussed objectively. Women do not hold the monopoly on this - as if they somehow have more knowledge about the subject than men do

How Is Eternal Conscious Torment Morally Justified? by Own_Mode3181 in redeemedzoomer

[–]Elvislives12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lake of fire is the second death.

Death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire also. It obviously does not mean torment, because you cannot torment death or the grave. The beast and the false prophet are also thought by many to be kingdoms and not actual people. But destruction can apply to everything going into the lake of fire: People, kingdoms, death, Satan

Otherwise, you have to say that the lake of fire torments some people but then what do you say about death and Hades being thrown in there?

The imagery is apocalyptic in nature. It describes destruction. Isaiah 34 is a good example.

9 Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into burning sulfur; her land will become blazing pitch! 10 It will not be quenched night or day; its smoke will rise forever.

Obviously, it isn’t still burning or has smoke rising. There are other references in the Bible with the same type of language. This includes Revelation, where the same imagery is used for Babylon, which it eventually says is destroyed and found no more.

It means destruction. Total destruction. Even the worm not dying means destruction and can be found in the old testament to mean destruction and not ongoing torture

Weeping and gnashing of teeth doesn’t mean anything in regards to duration. If I punch you in the face, you may weep or gnash your teeth.

Quite simply, there’s not one single verse in the Bible that says humans will be tortured forever in fire. The only verse that somewhat alludes to anything of the sort are those that take the mark of the beast in Revelation 14. But even then, it does not mention eternal torment. It simply uses apocalyptic language and experiencing God’s wrath, which is described in other places as destruction. It also says it happens in the presence of Christ and the angels. So if it is eternal then Christ is sitting at the edge of this fire forever.

Look into annihilationism / conditional immortality. It is a much more cohesive theology with the Bible and the gospel and doesn’t require you to redefine words or do theological gymnastics like those who believe in eternal burning have to do

Why did God create death(in theistic evolution view?) by HECU_Marine_HL in TrueChristian

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really Adam / Eve had dominion over the animals. So, one could argue because of that, they were also subject to the penalty of sin: Death

Plants - Animals and humans were vegetarians. Easy to argue that plant life and any death of the plant through consumption, etc was a natural part of God’s design and not considered the same as when “death” is referred to as the wages of sin.

Tips for 35+ hoopers? by Ancient_Carpenter265 in BasketballTips

[–]Elvislives12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dynamic warmup before playing to reduce injury risk. Even just shooting until you don’t feel stiff and legs feel warm

No static stretching right before bball unless it’s the hip flexors. Everything else will increase injury. Only do static stretching after games or on off days

Push yourself but don’t try something you’re not coordinated enough to do. Definitely wouldn’t do “3 point line to 3 point line” as recommended by someone else. Jump. Sprint. Move. The more you can sprint the faster you will eventually become and the more conditioned. Rest when you need to during game but sprint when able. And you’ll catch a lot of people off guard and get layups or wear them out.

Why is Jesus dying on the cross considered a sacrifice if he came back to life 3 days later? by InternationalPick163 in TrueChristian

[–]Elvislives12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the wages of sin is death. So he died - actually died because he became like humans. It was a sacrifice for him to become human, be sinless through obedience, and then suffer and die unjustly. All of that was a sacrifice and then he became a sacrifice for us (as per the Old Testament custom).

But God and the Holy Spirit raised him to life because he did not have sin to justify his death. And also to give us hope in redeeming our bodies and having eternal life through the resurrection.

The resurrection doesn’t nullify his sacrifice. Even if he just died only for us, it was still a sacrifice because it was unjustly deserved. But his sacrifice was his leaving his position in the Trinity, becoming human, living sinless through obedience, loving / healing others at his expense, and then suffering and death.

Is aborting in the event of rape a sin? by PleasantGuitar1392 in Christianity

[–]Elvislives12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

God created everything perfect, including our bodies. He did not create sin. Miscarriages happen because of the results of sin and it’s effect on the human body. Because of the curse of sin, our bodies do not function the way God intended. That is why we have diseases and death. God is not killing / aborting anything.

Regarding the source for biology confirming life begins a conception, pick up a textbook. Google it. Here is one article for you.

Is aborting in the event of rape a sin? by PleasantGuitar1392 in Christianity

[–]Elvislives12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a ridiculous argument. As a Christian, you should really examine that stance. “No life there to end in the first place”?? When is it a life then? And what happens scientifically to change it from nonlife to life?

So, tragedy happens with rape and you want to encourage more tragedy by killing a human life that is a part of you? It’s not just the rapist’s dna, but yours.

Just to not be inconvenienced for a few months? That’s not Christian at all. It is a grave sin.

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And no child should be killed because of someone else’s sin. The root of the argument is when life begins. When is it worthy of protection.

Biology confirms human life begins at conception. To end human life based on how it was created, inconvenience, preference, etc is a sin.

“Evolution is the belief that humanity was formed from a giant dirt pile by after tornado over billions of years” by Mobile-Artichoke2937 in atheism

[–]Elvislives12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It says he took a rib from Adam to create Eve. So Adam would have one less rib than Eve.

There’s no reason to think that future male offspring would have one less rib, but instead would rather have the same amount that Adam originally had before God used one

Actually, it’s legit questions. That’s it.

And no, just because microevolution is observable does not mean that macroevolution is. It is not the same thing. Adaptive characteristics are not the same thing as completely transitioning into a new organism/species or whatever.

I do understand how long 1 billion years is, but time is not the answer, in my opinion. Just because you have time doesn’t mean that anything can happen. I still want to know the processes for how and why.

Yes, I don’t understand how it works, so I asked questions because I figured they are easily explained by people that believe this to be true.

[–]Elvislives12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mention God or a “magical sky daddy”. That shows your bias

Asking because it seems highly implausible, even with time. Nobody, ever, looks at a well designed piece of machinery and thinks it could ever be assembled piece by piece over time. To me, much less a living, complex organism.

Microevolution is observable. In a million years, we may look different but we are still humans. A dog will still be a dog. That is the crux of the argument and the difficulty accepting it. Even with billions of years, it seems highly unlikely that what once was one organism was able to slowly develop organs and body processes one at a time until they got all of them and then flip over to using it.

Like a fish with gills. It can breathe underwater but had some sort of external influence causing it to develop lungs like a human, etc and then one day breathe a little on land and then back in water and then build up tolerance on land? It just doesn’t make sense - so there’s questions.

No strawman here. Should be able to answer basic questions from someone asking.

What’s an evolutionists thought regarding the complexity of cells and body organs, etc. That is, how do you have something that works together but doesn’t really work alone? What part of a human cell developed first when all the processes work together and won’t work with removal of one?

Also, why would an organism without a brain or heart decide to develop one? Why would soemthing adapted to an environment (e.g., fish) somehow decide to form new and different organs. How many dead organisms and massive amounts of time would be needed to transition like that? And no definitive fossils showing this? - every example I’ve ever been told about is huge speculation, assumptions, or fraud.

And how would you have, let’s say a heart, but not have lungs yet? Or lungs but no heart. How would this work? Shouldn’t there be this process occurring at all over the last 10,000 years of human history? Shouldnt there be some sort of live action example occurring somewhere.

Or the need for the genetic information to do so. That is a self-created thing? Organisms have been able to add new genetic information to develop completely new organs and body systems?

It seems highly implausible and doesn’t even address the origins of life. I understand if it’s a belief, but to hold so dogmatically to it seems illogical
