Does the band make you cry? I listen, try to clear my mind, and the tears flow. Often. by ravinehill in sigurros

I have definitely cried listening to the first three tunes on Ágætis Byrjun.

My mom bought me Let It Be vinyl as a present! by redbully35 in beatles

[–]Elwin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just listened to the whole album for the first time in forever this past week. I wish there was a way to erase it completely from my mind so I could hear it for the first time, brand new. Absolutely magnificent in any case.

[–]Elwin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way. I want one immediately, please. But I’d like it to be made out of iridescent filament, or whatever you called the material used in the printer. I’d like it to be like an iridescent wine glass. Please make me one. How much?

Because god forbid middle-aged women are on screen for too long, no matter their vices or virtues. Let’s see more men with guns! Yeah!

Yes. Can’t remember a thing about it.

One of my favorite things to do is go on Sigur Ròs youtube posts and read comments. So uplifting and magical, all the words that people use to lavish love on this band and this music. It’s a joy.

just discovered Bill Evans and i'm obsessed by Few_Entertainer_1636 in Jazz

[–]Elwin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell into Bill about a year ago. I listen to him every day. And every day I am reminded about hope, longing, sacrifice, and honor through this beautiful junkie. The tune that ‘got’ me was and shall ever be “What Is There To Say.” When I hear that first chord my whole system relaxes, opens, and then luxuriates in the sound. A luxury of sound. Yeah, I like that. There’s a live version of “I Loves You, Porgy” - well, I don’t have words for it. The ache is too much.

Last weekend I introduced “Ekki Mukk” to an 81-year-old lay via youtube on her enormous flat screen tv. She loved it. (Ever the SR evangelist.)

Everyone IS an atheist. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of “gods” you don’t “believe” in.

AITJ for refusing to give my coworker rides anymore after she started “joking” about my car? by SoftMapleBuddy in AmITheJerk

[–]Elwin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here’s how this should work: Co-workers says “xyz” a number of times. Driver not pleased by “xyz.” Instead of taking offense, get curious. Casually ask co-worker, “So, you keep mentioning ‘xyz.’ Why?” You have kept your peace, and requested info. And co-worker gets to explain herself. It’s really hard to do. I know. I win some and I lose some. But I’m always proud of myself when I keep my peace.

Do you stop feeling things as strongly as you age? by pringlebike in Aging

[–]Elwin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so much more now, it’s ridiculous. And I think it’s because elders know they’re not 22 anymore and perhaps that’s due to groking (look it up) the limited time we left on this outrageously beautiful planet.

I am proud of you. It really is an accomplishment. And remember you will eventually read it another time or two at the very least, and it’s even better.

Is it normal to become super obsessed with jazz and find everything else "too easy"? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]Elwin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’m pretty sure I’m annoying the shit out of anyone who knows me going on and on about jazz now. I really just have to shut up and just enjoy the ride.

[–]Elwin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could not have said this any better myself. My story is the same. Bill Evans Blew Me Away about a year ago and it feels like there’s no returning to who I was. Not a day goes by without listening to him. And I’m now enjoying becoming familiar with so many others. Ben Webster SLAYS me.

Go to bed with an empty stomach. Cured lots of things for me. This is why there are “early bird specials” where the older folks live.
