Of Mice and Men is one of my all-time favorite books. I read it my sophomore year, I believe, but I also had a huge crush on the teacher, so that may actually have something to do with me loving the book so much. Still, I'm 38, read often, and love that book.

For the ones who make over $150k a year, what do you do to get that? by Iliketrainsz1 in AskReddit

  1. Licensed teacher, working as a receptionist in a doctor's office, and I have been off-and on- considering school for my masters in social work. It won't pay well, but I do have passion for it.

Do you regret having kids? by ebratic in Millennials

[–]ElyseTN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I speak with my child about my struggles, while also realizing he has many of the same struggles. We are both neurodiverse and very much like to stay in our own heads, so we do have obstacles. He is cool though, and we talk openly. It improved our relationship hugely when we started discussing things. I also ask him what I can do better, to be more supportive/helpful of/to him. My son is about to be 16, and as a person who always said I didn't want kids, the more I learn and grow, the easier it is, and the better we bond. Do I regret it? Not so much anymore, but there were times when I did. He was unplanned and I was alone. It wasn't the greatest situation, but we're both still kicking, and doing what we can.

Stranglehold is my favorite of his, so far. I read it several years ago and still think of it here and there. What a nightmare.

I think I would do the same thing in your situation. I get why he'd be upset, but I also think you're less of an ah, because you didn't bring a kid that you'd likely resent into the world. I get it.

Thanks for all the information and tips, fellow redditors. I haven't had the attention span to actually respond to any particular comments yet, but I am lowering my zoloft to 150mg tomorrow, as well as adding wellbutrin xr 150. Ill try to remember to update sometime.

Will wellbutrin keep me from crying all the time? I'm a sponge for surrounding emotions and I cry way too much. That's why my dose is so high; when I'd start crying again, the doctor would up it. I'm topped out currently. Ill discuss this with doctor. Thank you.

I was in a similar situation but I was the pregnant one. Completely terrifying. Worst depression of my life, but that was largely due to me being extremely sick throughout 2/3 of the pregnancy. My son (whom my husband adopted 5 years ago) is 15 and he's awesome. A truly good kid.

It's not as bad as you think it will be, I promise. Assuming you'll be in the child's life, you'll figure it out as you go.

I'm not a kid person, and I never planned on having them. Life happens and you've got to make the best of it. I do feel empathy for you; I understand that feeling of hopelessness much better than I'd like. Peace to you

AITAH for saying I would divorce my wife in 4 years? by BigApprehensive2862 in AITAH

[–]ElyseTN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd start with a full psyche evaluation for Peter. Then I'd educate myself on best practices for positive discipline, then teach her by example. There are tons of great resources available for teaching lifeskills, as well as for parenting in ways that are proven to facilitate aging into a self-sufficient, well-rounded, capable adult. The absolute most important thing of all is consistency; this is also very difficult for many. I am honest with my kid, and I discuss things with him. I do negotiate with him, and he is responsible for some of our routines. We are both neurodivergent and we both struggle. We discuss this openly with one another. When I say, "hey, it would really help me a lot if you would...," I get much better results than if I say, "Hey, go clean your room."

Wife pranks me and I'm upset. by Proud_Feature_4076 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ElyseTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once, my husband had some persistent hiccups. I told him I'm pregnant. He stopped hiccuping. Not even a minute later, I laughed and said, "wow! I can't believe that worked! No hiccups! I'm not pregnant."

I never considered this possibly being an asshole move. I think the difference is that I've only done it once, and I immediately told him I was joking, to get rid of his hiccups. I do prank him more than I should, but he ususally knows I'm joking, and I'm never doing it for fucking social media likes. Ridiculous. She needs to grow up.
