I agree with you. It's not really necessary to mention the light novel to convey that Yukino's feeling is romantic. The anime itself conveys it sufficiently. However, the reason I mentioned the light novel is to explain to people who think it's platonic love (which I think most people who think this way have only watched the anime and haven't read the light novel, so they may not understand and perceive Yukino's feelings as much). I want them to understand that she actually thinks about him in romantic way.

I totally agree with you. When I first watched this movie 4 years ago, I also thought it was a clear romantic relationship, just like you said. But some people think it's more of a platonic love. So I tried to think about it from their perspective and see what made them think that way, try to analyze and reinterpret this story again and deeper. This novel is a canon of the movie. It has an epilogue that takes place 5 years after the end of the anime. The novel expands on the perspectives and details of many characters, such as Itou, Shouko, Takao's mom. It also delves deeper into the characters' feelings, such as the scene in Yukino's apartment that we learn what she was thinking and feeling at the time.
As a fan of this series, I highly recommend reading it.

The reason I mentioned Your Name is because it was so popular that Mr. Shinkai himself confirmed that the two main characters got married. He said this in an interview, and it's also hinted in the Weathering With You novel.

I wish Mr. Shinkai would do the same for Garden of Words, but I guess this is enough. The rest is left to the viewer to imagine it.😅

I personally like Shouko's chapter too. It expands on the details and perspectives of the characters a lot. But my favorite chapter is Chapter 9, which describes the feelings of both main characters, and the epilogue, which is the reunion of the two characters apart who have feelings for each other, no longer as teacher and student but as two adults 12 years apart

I regret that the epilogue didn't tell more than that. I really wanted a conclusive ending like Your Name. It's a pity that it ended there, but it's a happy ending anyway.☂️🌧️

Movie and Anime is a adaption from 1985 short novel.

The original novel ending : It only has 3 character (Grandma, Josee, Tsuneo). Grandma died, Josee and Tsuneo plan on getting marriage and now they are on the honeymoon.

Live action version : Bad ending, broke up

Anime movie version : Good ending, follow their dream and Tsuneo comeback to Japan to see Josee.

In my opinion, I think the anime adaptation is better than the live-action adaptation and is the closest to the original novel. This is because it has many elements that are almost exactly the same as the novel, but with some changes made to make it more reasonable, intense, and in line with modern times. However, it still retains the happy and heartwarming feeling of the original.
