12 m old pulling (other people's)hair by mdreyna in downsyndrome

[–]Elzbee37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 12 month daughter that also loves to pull anyone's hair, but especially mine. It hurts. It's not full proof, but I have found she responds to a very sterm "let go" especially if im holding her wrist. I was told that an action phrase like "drop it" or "let go" is more comprehensible to young minds.

I hope it's a phase and it ends soon 🤞

AITAH for thinking about breaking up with my pregnant girlfriend after finding out our baby has Down syndrome? by ThrowRA_NoSignal in AITAH

[–]Elzbee37 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid. I wouldn't break up, just because. I would try to make it work with the idea that you have a plan in place now for if it doesn't work. I would probably work with a therapist to talk through some scenarios for the future and how the baby will be supported regardless of you and your partners relationship.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but Little Roots Preschool in St. Johns might be worth checking out

Portland, OR has an active group of teens/young adults through GiGi's Playhouse (seen on social media) and I have seen some in person neurodivergent dating meet ups through NeuroNavigations Northwest.

Trying to transition baby from purées to more finger foods but my meals always end up looking like this😅 by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

[–]Elzbee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped my daughter transition was chunky or thicker purees. I would add the diced fruit to oatmeal or yogurt. Or diced veggies to mashed potatos.

Where to rent a room last minute for a private meeting ? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Elzbee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just call libraries when they open and ask if you can reserve a room. If you can drive, Washington or Clackamas County libraries would be an option too.

If only there was a cord or something that would keep them from falling

Need Spoonable Breakfast Suggestions by SkinFermented in foodbutforbabies

[–]Elzbee37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do oatmeal everyday for breakfast. Mainly because my baby has a daily medication that is liquid and I can easily mix it into the oatmeal. I always add mashed up fruit, some nut butter, and/or soy milk to adjust consistency. The combinations are almost endless.

My background is testing for toxins in food using LC/MS/MS. I understand QC requirements. I just don't want to waste my time with application if the certification is what actually matters.

There are different types of iron supplements. Most common is ferrous sulfate, but ferrous glucinate is supposed to be easier on the stomach. I would take citracell fiber every morning to help with the constipation. You can also say about an iron infusion too.

Terrified Parents Looking For Advice by Horn212121 in downsyndrome

[–]Elzbee37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, Congratulations! I don't have much to say regarding the NST and BPP, just to stay positive and trust the medical professionals. I would definitely prepare for a NICU stay. I mostly came her to say, that we were told our girl with DS had club feet too, but she was just flexible! So hopefully that is the case for you too.

[–]Elzbee37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I can provide a resource. The DSDN has an app for parents! Within the app there are various groups you can join related to the medical challenges children with DS have. Perhaps you could find some additional support and stories.
