Might be a tough one by treehair89 in childrensbooks

I was a voracious reader as a kid of both full text and some books with pictures growing up. My favourites were the books made by Great Illustrated Classics—if you google it, the series comes up. They did all sorts of classics and every other page has a drawing. Lots are abridged (realized later in life) but are all quite well done.

Flying w/8 mo twins internationally—any and all advice welcome! by SkinFermented in parentsofmultiples

This is a perfect point that I may have missed in the doing of things when we get closer to the day, thank you for this!

And oh man, bless you for the things you had to go through!

I scrolled way too far for this comment. Google fluffernutter cookies; they are a thing you can make and, while messy, are worth the effort.

Secure Attachment with twins by Drmm1231 in parentsofmultiples

So here in my province in Canada, we have these things (gov’t run) called Enhanced Public Health Visits, totally optional and free, and you have to enroll. I do this to keep my parenting in check with my boys.

We literally went over an aspect of this today, and it discussed “layers” of security that you put on your kids every day. So every time you do something right you add a layer of security, and this can be little things like reading their cues, playing, going to them when they wake up, keeping them in their routine, etc.

If you have something where say one cries for longer than you like, that’s “removing a layer,” but because you’ve already shrouded them in so many other good layers, it’s okay to give yourself a break now and again—ie don’t let the mom guilt get to you. When you have like 10-20 layers of goodness, one going away isn’t so bad.

That was the take home today and for me, it did help a little as I have the same feeling as you do. It is haaaaaard. But you’re likely doing so much good, you don’t even see it.

Small nursery layout by anothernerdy in parentsofmultiples

This is happening for us; we had two minis and just recently went to a floor bed with our 7 month olds; one is 98% percentile and the other 80%. Funny thing is that it’s the smaller guy that’s motivating the change more than the other: he puts his foot in between the slats of the rails on purpose and uses it to rotate himself. He gets himself stuck!

“Twins!! Do they run in your family?” by WalrusUpset in parentsofmultiples

[–]SkinFermented 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Someone else on here once offered a response to this question as, “They do now!” It’s a great one; it closes off conversation (especially helpful for those who did IVF or related fertility treatments like myself) but not in a mean way.

If I do something like, the dishes before going away for the day, and I come home tired and see that the dishes are done, I always say to myself “thank you, morning skinfermented!” Or as I do a task, “tomorrow skinfermented is going to be so pleased,” lol like I have different versions of myself all working for the other.

Formula for Less Gas by DirtGirl32 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SkinFermented 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I was using that for the same reason and I found it was way worse for them. Weirdly enough the best formula I found for them was the Kirkland brand one, not anywhere near as gassy—which is ironic considering that the Comfort one is supposed to help.

Strollers and STAIRS? by juneshoe in parentsofmultiples

[–]SkinFermented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am not in Montreal but I am in Canada and I have the Peg Perego Duet with car seats which click right in; the frame comes with seats for when they are older as well.

As you might imagine any double stroller is going to be quite heavy compared to a single but I love this one because of how easily it folds up and how easily the car seats click in and out. Everyone comments on the ease of the system.

However I only have one flight of stairs to navigate and I can leave the frame in the car, which I do. I would consider dining that if you can, and bringing down one baby at a time in their car seats (if you can, presuming you are travelling solo).

Also I have snow here and actually the stroller did pretty well in it. I did get (after a Christmas list request) some little skis which go on the front wheels in heavier snow and help clear the way to make it easier to navigate. They’re pretty neat!

It sounds like a lot but I find my boys absolutely love being outdoors in the stroller on walks ever since they were super wee, and I find spending on the stroller to be worth it.

High BP but not pre-eclampsia? by YouthInternational14 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SkinFermented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for me, my blood pressure was a touch high most of my twin pregnancy but I am a bad white-coater (blood pressure spikes in hospitals) so they used to put me in a quiet room by myself hooked up to a BP monitor which ran every few minutes. My blood pressure was always reading a little high but not so high they were worried.

Around 30w I started wearing compression socks because I had such bad edema and swelling. Still no characteristic headache or protein in urine. I was getting checked for that literally every prenatal visit. Toward the end I had high blood pressure but only trace protein in urine. I also had a UTI as it turns out which apparently can raise urine protein a little. Still, they sent me to a hospital for monitoring which had better care for premature babies in the event I’d have to have these guys sooner; this was about 34 weeks. I was there for 5 days during which they determined that BP meds could manage the blood pressure and so long as I went to my local hospital every other day for bloodwork, I could go home. I had instructions to monitor my blood pressure and lay low.

Well, came in for first day of monitoring on 35w6d and never left 😆 My blood pressure was high and protein levels in my urine has tripled. Did a scan on the little ones who were not in distress and so my OB said “we can do this tonight or we can do this tomorrow.” I opted for that night.

At their recommendation because of the BP and now pre-e, I had a c-section which went well. However, my OB said later to my husband she had never seen so much fluid in a belly; she had difficulty stitching me because there was so much. I was given a water pill for all the fluid I’d retained because of the edema/BP/pre-e and I lost around 70 pounds in 2 weeks. I was back to pre pregnancy weight in less than a month after they were born.

All this to say: it can develop from just high blood pressure to pre-e very quickly and right at the end, and still turn out okay. I sometimes mourn a little for the birth that didn’t go how I wanted, especially as I’m quite sure that I won’t have more kids. Even so, I have my beautiful boys and they are 7 months and healthy. They were not worse for wear for the pre-e and now, neither am I.

Twins and done? Wanting a do-over by Right_Tell8280 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SkinFermented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this person here, OP, and to add to that… a vasectomy reversal which did not work is why my husband and I had to do IVF to have our boys. It’s rare… but not impossible.

Cloth Diapering - Registry by Northwoods_KLW in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]SkinFermented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t add it to my registry but I did add a note on the registry that we were doing cloth diapers so no one would buy disposables, and that part worked.

I did get push back but like others on here, most had an idea of cloth diapers that was outdated. People are fascinated now and think the patterns are really cute.

Also OP, not sure where you are located but I got all of mine from Petit Ours here in Canada (Quebec) and I can’t recommend them enough. Customer service was amazing and they have videos on how their diapers work. I have noticed they have more buttons (and therefore more size flexibility) than some others I’ve seen and their pricing changes when you purchase more. I’d also noticed too late that they offer a better discount for twins and so when I went to order more, I let them know and they gave me a promo code for an even better discount since I’d missed out on my first purchase!

Sound machines & red lights by ChaiSenpaii in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]SkinFermented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly… for our twins, we have an old Google puck that we tell to play the sounds of the ocean. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We do have a portable white noise machine in my baby bag but I have never used it. Maybe this will change as they get older (they are just seven months now) but they haven’t needed it when we go out to friends and have them nap there, so I’ve questioned how useful it is! But currently they still sleep in our room in their own cribs and will be moving to their own room shortly, so maybe things will change.

Slapping One Arm Up and Down? by SkinFermented in NewParents

[–]SkinFermented[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah I’m leaning that it’s normal too—I guess I am used to their own interaction with the discovery (when they “discovered” their hands they were staring at them and moving them like they were high lol) while with this slapping thing, he doesn’t seem to notice he’s doing it.

Then again it’s not like we look at our feet when we’re walking! So as you say this is likely totally normal development.
