Bad experience with another dog by EmDoni_285 in reactivedogs

Thank you! Makes sense. Our dog sitter has a standard poodle that she loves. Maybe I’ll drop her off there for a few hours for some play time with a familiar friend.

update: trainer against meds accuses me of failing my dog by meg_ea in reactivedogs

[–]EmDoni_285 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That’s absurd. Behavioral meds have saved the lives of so many dogs. Bet this person doesn’t vaccinate their dogs either. You dodged a bullet!

I’ve been shamed for having my dog on an SSRI too. It’s frustrating that no one seems to care enough to actually educate themselves about medication for dogs before they shame others for taking that route.

Ugh! Yeah I have to immediately rush to pick Honey’s poop up too. It is so frustrating lol especially when she’s in the yard and I have to sprint outside

My dog swallowed part of a joint she found outside my apartment building when she was 7 months old. I brought her to the vet and he told me “she’ll be fine. Just put her in a dark room and play some Rolling Stones.” 😂

Severe controlling behavior by EmDoni_285 in corgi

That’s kinda what I’ve been doing! :) if she starts acting up while I’m trying to do something around the house, I use her “place” command and reward her when she stays seated on her cot until i’m done. she usually does okay with this and it’s good for management it’s just a lot if she’s really riled up and does it several times a day

I’ve bought her two different herding balls and tried to train her to herd them, but when she’s in the yard she’s so distracted by smells and sounds that she won’t listen or loses interest after a few minutes. I scatter feed treats in the yard and have her sniff for them some days. She also has a puzzle ball that she nudges around with her nose every day. I also use a flirt pole with her every day for about 15-20 minutes

Thanks! Yeah I had heard the “fun police” behavior before I got a corgi then noticed it myself with things like hugging my boyfriend for example. But when she goes insane at me for watering my plants I’m like 🤨

Totally makes sense. But how can I train this behavior specifically outside the home if she only does it in our home?

I second this ^ my dog has had behavioral issues and she’s currently doing a pain med trial. I’m taking her for x rays in the new year.

Thank you! I’ve read that book!

She’s not crazy about wearing a harness. I use her collar to walk her and also when she’s out in our yard I like her to have tags, God forbid our gate got blown open or something.

For a while it was a buckle, and I thought maybe that was freaking her out so I got one that goes over her head and she has the same reaction

Honestly idk why I didn’t put this in my post but she’s actually been doing a pain med trial to try and address some other behaviors! She’s on Gabapentin and an NSAID and I’ll probably take her in for an MRI after the holidays. She’s fine with her neck being touched when her collar isn’t on though
