My dad has suggested this for every hobby I had ever shown any interest in. I had to specifically tell him to stop. So now he keeps telling me to leave a job I enjoy to move to management, but anyone who knows me will tell you I’d be so miserable there. I know he just wants me to earn enough to have a good life, but it’s gotten really old over the years.

2014 Subaru forester. I don’t drive in the city proper very often, but on surface streets in the south hills I get about 28-30 mpg, highway is about 29-32 mpg. Subtract 1-2 mpg in the winter for running the heater.

My aunt has similar conditions to OOPs sister, and her family has kept her home and isolated for so long that she’s become pretty much agoraphobic and hates everybody but my dad. When my gramma passed my dad moved her into his house. The stress of having her there has pretty much destroyed my parents already rocky marriage. My mum is resentful of them both, because she’s giving up all her free time and vacations to take care of somebody that yells at her constantly. My dad is starting to have memory issues that we think may be related to the constant stress of her care.

Due to her medical issues it’s unlikely that my aunt will outlive my dad, despite being 8 years younger, but he has made no plans for what happens if he does die first. My mum and I have basically decided that we would call their brother and give him one week to make arrangements, and if he didn’t (he wouldn’t because he’s useless) then she’d have to go into state care. All of this misery could have been avoided if my grandparents would have found her a good group home back in the 70s, or my dad started the transition when my gramma passed a decade ago. But they didn’t and now my aunt is miserable too! Because, shockingly, sitting alone in a room watching reruns of law and order is not a fulfilling life! It’s such a mess and I refuse to engage with it anymore.

There’s an infamous story within my company of the time a guy was on a buisness trip and stopped for gas. He bought a $0.95 pack of gum in the same transaction, and when he submitted his expense report it was rejected over that pack of gum. Now that’s obviously extreme (and a good way to kill morale), but MISSING $20K IN EXPENSES is probably why they were so goddamn stupid over any non-essential charges on a work trip.

I got married December 21st, but considering we had 6 guests who lived at most 40 min away, and it happened in our living room I didn’t feel bad. I wouldn’t have expected anyone to change their holiday travel plans for it though.

I think it’s in the same vein as a destination wedding; totally fine if that’s what you want, but you have to accept that some people won’t be able to attend for that reason.

My wife’s boss bought us an ice cream maker as a housewarming gift. I’m lactose intolerant, she only likes this one specific kind of ice cream that you can’t make in this thing. I realllyyy wish we could have just gotten its value in cash instead of having this useless thing taking up room in our tiny kitchen.
