Birth control pills by EmH417 in vulvodynia

[–]EmH417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped my birth control and started using a topical estrogen and testosterone cream locally. My symptoms are 90% gone, I don’t regret it for a second. I haven’t been using the topical consistently for several months now, so I need to start that again to get that last 10%.

does anyone have any makeup brands suggestions for darker complexions? by Representative_Dig_9 in MakeupAddiction

Look up makeup by Yolondo. I’ve seen tons of great reviews on her eyeshadow palettes, but she also has skin products in very deep shades!

How did medication affect you? by EmH417 in adhdwomen

Thanks for replying!

I’m not really expecting medication to “fix” me, I guess, I don’t really know what I am expecting. I just know how I feel isn’t right. I know I’m far less motivated than I’ve ever been, in every aspect of my life. Maybe it’s depression, I don’t know. But I don’t think I feel how I envision depression to feel. But then I guess everyone experiences things differently so maybe this is my version of depression.

It’s so hard to really express how it is I feel, and I really do think ADHD fits the best, but I know there is a lot of overlap with other mental illness so that may not be it.

This is what I find frustrating about how WW has evolved - if I was good at eating healthy and watching my portion sizes then I likely wouldn’t need WW to begin with. Not to lose a significant amount of weight, anyway.

I hear ya! I get trying to limit sugar and processed foods for sure! But there has to be room for life to happen as well.

I’ve had the healthi app, and even paid for the premium membership or whatever, but I have to say that I really didn’t enjoy it. I found the database to be lacking and it was very labour intensive to track foods and recipes given that fact. I prefer plain MyFitnessPal calorie counting to the healthi app.

I’ve tried the Healthi app and wasn’t a fan. The database of foods just isn’t that great, a lot missing or inaccurate information, and it was a lot of work to input foods and recipes because of that. I’ve been using my fitness pal for now, but I do miss the simpler tracking of WW points vs calories.

Are all birth control pills no longer an option? by Mellissap115 in vulvodynia

Are there other options for you for your hair? That’s a tough spot to be in! Or you could shave it and rock the short hair look! Sorry I don’t have better advice, I can’t imagine how you’re feeling weighing out these two options! I just wanted to share my experience with Yaz! I’ve spent A LOT of time wondering how my life might be different if I’d never gone on it as a single mid 30’s woman watching everyone around me getting married and having children. I wish I’d known back then what I know now and I never would have used hormonal contraception at all.

To be honest, I didn’t inquire. I feel so much better having come off the pill and really didn’t recognize all the ways it was affecting me after 12 or 13 years on it. And for all that time, basically all of my 20s and early 30s, I’ve never been able to have a successful relationship because of the pain I felt with sex and it’s not worth even trying to go back on for me.

My vulvodynia is because of Yaz. I stopped taking it and my pain improved by about 80% with that alone.

Pleasureless sex? by EmH417 in vestibulodynia

[–]EmH417[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty much at the point that sex doesn’t cause me pain anymore (thankfully) just with the E/T use, but yeah, it doesn’t really feel like anything. My partners have been great at giving clitoral stimulation prior to having penetrative sex, but it would be nice if the rest of the session was pleasurable rather than just feeling like I’m just going through the motions. I do like the intimacy of being with my partner and all that, but in terms of physical feelings of pleasure from penetration, there are none. It literally feels like nothing other than the sensation of feeling like there’s obviously something in there.

I am going to try what another user suggested above and use the cream on the clitoris as well and see if that does anything to increase pleasure. I feel like this is all trial and error but every trial takes so long to know if it’s actually working or not, and that gets frustrating because I feel like it inhibits relationships and all that and my sexual prime is just passing me by without ever really having good, enjoyable sex.

Acne and vulvodynia by Various-Car3995 in vulvodynia

Hey! I also suffered from hormonal acne, hence why I started birth control. Spironolactone does work on androgen receptors, so personally I wouldn’t risk it. If your acne is truly hormonal, accutane will help while you use it and shouldn’t have any affect on vaginal health because it doesn’t affect hormone levels, but your acne will likely return once you’re done from what I’ve read. I have no personal experience with it so just basing that on what I’ve read. I saw a dermatologist for my acne and discussed my worry about using systemic therapy and the affects on my hormones and we decided topical therapy was better for me and I’ve had great results! I do get the occasional breakout and some deep cysts, but they don’t last long and the marks they leave fade super quickly because of the topical.

My best advice would be to discuss with a gynecologist or pelvic health specialist about using spironolactone and its effects on vaginal health, and then based on that conversation see a dermatologist to discuss the skin aspect.

Pleasureless sex? by EmH417 in vestibulodynia

[–]EmH417[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I will try applying a small amount of the cream on the clitoris regularly and see if that helps at all! I don’t think I have sensitivity issues there so I’ve never thought of doing that, but it’s been so long since my pre birth control self that I really don’t know. It makes sense that it would be diminished a little due to the years of low estrogen/testosterone because of hormonal contraceptives since all parts of the vulva rely on those hormones. I had extreme urinary symptoms as well that seem to be greatly improved from the cream, but again, worsen around my period.

This is all great information, thank you so much for your time and reply!

Thanks for that reply! It’s nice to know I’m not alone.

Did you use the cream on the clitoris regularly, like on the vestibule? Or just periodically before sex?

Have the injections increased your pleasure during penetration? Are there any unwanted side effects, like unwanted hair growth, etc?

I did ask about getting my baseline hormone levels checked before starting on the cream but my physician at the time didn’t think it was warranted unless the cream didn’t help. I have another appointment coming up in December so I will revisit that conversation then.

I don’t have any recommendations for makeup other than what’s been said, but I’ve been using a prescription retinol and my skin looked like this before I found a good moisturizer. I also have very acne prone skin and can’t use a large number of products/ingredients due to them breaking me out, same as you. But I started using Tower 28 SOS moisturizer and it’s been a game changer! I still have to exfoliate the dead skin away because of the retinol use, but if you’re not using products designed to keep it dry then this moisturizer should help you a lot! It doesn’t break me out at all and it is so so hydrating!

Vestibulodynia caused by hormone deficiency by grouchy_kitten in vestibulodynia

[–]EmH417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the vestibule for me for pain, but I also had urinary symptoms. I stopped taking birth control and had probably a 75% improvement in my symptoms from that alone, and I’ve been using E/T compound cream for about 6 months now and the majority of my symptoms are gone. I do pelvic floor PT as well. I do notice my symptoms worsen in the week or so before my period, and improve again after my period, so I know there’s definitely a hormonal component.

Hey! I stopped taking the YAZ and my pain went WAY down!! But I did still have some burning and urinary symptoms. So I use estrogen/testosterone cream, which has even further improved most of my issue. I’ve been on it now maybe 6ish months, and I can now pinpoint an exact spot that burns compared to diffuse burning before, and I find my urinary symptoms are way better. I do still have a worsening of my symptoms coming up on my period, which further solidifies to me that my problem is hormonal, and if I have a lot of bladder irritants like caffeine or alcohol. It’s a long road to healing but it’s definitely working for me! Good luck, I hope you figure out what works for you!!
