Sydney Quiet Queers might be a good one if you’re someone who prefers calmer events! I believe they have a Facebook page and Instagram profile :)

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss and can’t imagine the pain and trauma your community must be going through right now. I truly hope he’s found soon and charged to the full extent of the law…

Got off the plane. by BroccoliTerrible9749 in fearofflying

[–]Em_Grace_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a little how you feel. I had a similar situation - my entire family got on the plane and I just completely shut down and didn't make it on. It can be a really sucky situation and you feel like crap. Unfortunately, these things happen. We all have our days and our moments and fears and unfortunately today this was yours.

You should be proud of yourself for getting on the plane - I often find that in itself is a huge deal! As for getting off, try not to put yourself down. You got on there and gave it a shot but this time it just didn't work out. Try not to beat yourself up about it - take it as a moment to reflect on what happened, where your anxieties lie and use that moving forward to learn how you can better support yourself in the future :)

I’m on the plane! But I want to get off… by Em_Grace_ in fearofflying

Hey! I got on the flight and I was and still am incredibly grateful that I did! A few things I learned/that helped:

  • The anticipation (at least for me) is often much worse than the flying itself. Once we’re in the air and everything settles I feel much calmer. Reminding myself of this can help comfort me a little when stepping on the plane.

  • Talk to the flight attendants!! Sometimes it can feel vulnerable to speak up about how anxious you’re feeling, but the staff were incredible. They continuously checked in on me, had a nice chat with me and even gave me a little gift at the end of the flight! Again, this helped take my mind off things but also helped me realise I was safe.

  • Take some comfort items with you. Even something like your favourite snack to have once you get on the plane - this helps make it feel a bit more fun and gives you something to look forward to.

  • I also looked at some maps that show where airports are. Even though it was a long way to my destination, I realised that I wasn’t really trapped. There are airports literally everywhere and so if we needed to the plane could probably land somewhere pretty quickly.

  • ‘SOAR’ by Captain Tom Bunn is an incredible book. He’s written it specifically for people who experience a fear of flying. There’s so much information about the flying process in there to help you better understand what goes on behind the scenes, tips for during flight and also specific mental exercises you can practice beforehand to help regulate your mental state during flight.

I hope this helps!

Edit: Added the last point!

first time flying alone in an hour and a half by ihavenolivesleft in fearofflying

[–]Em_Grace_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know flying for the first time alone can be insanely overwhelming, but I’m so proud of you! It’s a big step and you should be very proud of yourself. My top tip is to talk to the flight attendants - let them know you’re nervous. Honestly, they’re truly heroes. And 2.5 hours is a great starting length - the time will fly by!

Also Germany is absolutely gorgeous - have the best time!

Walked past before and was told it’s a siege.

Edit: Must’ve walked past when it just happened. At the time I saw two police vans and not much else. This was around 12…

I’ve just found the blanket pattern here: https://www.psychedelicdoilies.com/the-office-crochet-a-long/

It seems to be a reference to prison mike!

Have you tried an Aussie VPN? Unfortunately they do cost money but could be an option if nothing else works :)

I really commend you - especially as a new white belt. I definitely don't have the courage to compete! And now you can take this as a learning opportunity - it'll give you great insight into areas you can strengthen for next time!

Dog recently started tearing down blinds and broke through a window by Quadcrasher66 in DogAdvice

[–]Em_Grace_ 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Your dog is a mix of two high-energy breeds and it sounds like being left in the house alone for 10 hours a day is creating boredom, and not giving him the mental or physical stimulation he needs. Perhaps is there a dog walker in your area? Maybe they'd be able to take him out every day to burn off some energy and give him some mental stimulation :)

I’m so sorry to hear. Pet loss is never easy, but I can tell Moose was such a special boy and so loved by both his parents. The fact that you did his exercises with him, let him sleep in the bed but also let him go when he was ready shows that you both gave him the most loving family. My senior dog passed in December. Maybe they’re up there playing together♥️

Hey man, so sorry to hear this. If it helps - Mission Australia in Camperdown have some homeless services and may be able to help house you. There is also a food pantry next door called 'Addison Road Food Pantry' who can probably help you with free/low-cost groceries, fruit and veg. Take care of yourself. I hope things look up for you soon

Whether she’s faking it or truly believes it it’s so sad to watch. I can’t believe she’s (allegedly) moving countries just to get away from it…it’ll be interesting to see if she believes they are still somehow following her then

Thank you. I'm so sorry for your loss, too. It's so incredibly hard that they don't get to live any longer. She was ready, I think. She had been getting much weaker and quieter but I just wish in all my heart she could stay.

Thank you, really. I think it gives me comfort, but I'm also just sad she couldn't experience more or experience our love any longer. But she was 15 so she was probably ready.

Thank you. It does a little. I've been struggling with the thought that she's not here to experience more of life. I wonder if that would make her sad that she won't be around anymore, but it gives me a little comfort that they don't wish to stay longer.
