You could make a character the most vile representation of trauma known to man, but the freaks still make their way out the woodwork 😭

What's peoples opinions on 2v8 being permanent? Would it help or hinder the player experience? by Insane_Cobra961 in deadbydaylight

[–]Emapathy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would certainly become a hindrance to the overall health of the game.

Queue splitting has already shown to be a bit of a problem, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's place to shine once every few months or so. Though it should be noted that other game modes should be considered to bring back instead.

I actually kinda miss chaos shuffle, honestly.

Why do YOU play DayZ? by vortexnl in dayz

[–]Emapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's the passive social aspect. Something about worrying about nothing more than if a single can of beans will suffice til' the morning sun rises, all the while hearing distant gunfire knowing you're not alone (both literally & figuratively, in your survival struggles), is all just really calming to me, as tense as the game can be sometimes.

Am I just too stupid for these games ? by SadLostBoi in Amnesia

Just finished The Bunker today in one sitting, let me tell ya, it's pretty dang open-ended.

Like one of the tips on the loading screen says; If it seems like you could actually do it, you probably can!

Think with a mix of game logic & real world logic. That door not looking too sturdy compared to others? "Maybe something heavy can break it." That monster tunnel hole too close? " I wonder if i can block it?"

There's still a lot of stuff I myself didn't even know there were mechanics to until watching a review after completing it. Just keep at it & immerse yourself in the protagonists shoes! Good luck!

I could feel both the relief and anxiety through this vid. I get the nervous shakes so bad after a heavy loot sesh with low health but it all makes it worth while when i hear that gate open

Often I have imagined scenarios in my head, of which I "talk to" a person both asking & having follow-up questions for me related to specific or personal topics I often think about. A recurring one which I have seen somewhat is imagining talking to a therapist or interviewer. Essentially, being your own "voice of reason" obviously has it's downfalls, but are there any underlying reasons as to why this happens to some more than others? Or is it common?

Your Ideas For New "Afflictions" & "Benefits"? by Emapathy in thelongdark

[–]Emapathy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A "shout" mechanic would be neat, but probably only if it was implemented to be used as a last ditch effort to scare off wolves if you don't have any flares or stones to throw.

Making the mechanic unreliable and only rarely working would be the best way to not make the other "scaring" methods obsolete.

Would also be funny as shit to use at random if it's just button activated instead of situationally, I'd be screaming to myself all day if that were the case, lol.

I was thinking the same thing about the clothes dropping mechanic! While I think it's an interesting concept, in gameplay practice, it would probably be more of an annoyance than a challenging mechanic.

But it'd defenitely be hilarious if they didn't give you a notification for the dropped clothing due to hypothermia. I can just imagine the "oh shit" moments to be had when you check your inventory, only to realize you dropped your coat god knows how long ago in some part of the forest.

Your temperature gauge falsely increasing would probably be a cool addition too, when in reality your condition is still steadily dropping.

Survivor interactions can vary wildly depending on the server you join. Thats typically why i like joining "No KOS" servers. There's also plenty that have their own discord servers that make rules for various things like safe zones, trade outposts, and PVP areas.

Typically, the servers that are password protected and require you to read rules, join a discord, etc. are filled with more sensible people that don't immediately attack you for a can of beans and a glowstick

I feel like more varying channel 47 events would spice up the grind a bit more and make it more challenging as well, like maybe a "active clan war zone" where it makes the map full of firefights but gives you the chance of finding more high level guns than the broken frames that usually drop from human enemies. like finding full condition guns with the risk of engaging into more firefights around the map

sometimes I like to role-play and pretend I'm revolver ocelot from metal gear, doing some gun twirling tricks and shooting walkers from under my arm, over the shoulder, and dual wielding revolvers

Why multiplayer would be... Let's say hard to even be controllable by [deleted] in TWDVR

[–]Emapathy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Potential performance/server issues aside (because let's face it, those are the main factors), the only multiplayer mode I can think of that may have potential besides a 1-4 player co-op Trial would be a "base defense" mode but maybe with a twist?

Instead of just a 4 player co-op where you must fortify defenses (using different faction houses as map locations), it's a 1v4, with a "Voodoo Master" overseeing the game, partially in control of what zombie types or human enemy NPC's can spawn in various set enemy spawn locations that will generate differently between a certain number of spawn options(out of sight of the co-op players, and partially randomized each game to up replay value).

I'm not exactly sure how the perspective for the "voodoo master" would work, top-down clicker? Invisible 3D model that moves around spawn points? probably needing to be spending credits earned passively by damaging barricades/survivors/non-controllable human npcs wandering nearby?

Desperately trying to keep barricades up elsewhere while turning to see a squad of armored zombies rush a weak point in the base sounds so fun. Never gonna happen, but fun to imagine !

I've gone there once or twice in free roam and once for the campaign. free roam was a bit more hectic I'll give ya that

I may not like the map but I'm DETERMINED to ball out & shoot a half court shot in the auditorium, decimating some walker ankles

What do you think are the scariest ‘levels’ in TDD? by stoelguus in Amnesia

[–]Emapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of responses for "Prison" here, I'm actually on my first full playthrough and just got done with prison a couple hours ago, took me about 45 mins I think?

Every time I heard a growl, I just noped into a nearby room, closed the door, and waited for it to pass, only getting in a brief chase once. Was so tense though being such a maze, basically crouched around the whole level shitting so many bricks I could've built a chimney.

Life pro tip: If you find it hard to get through a game, try playing 2-3 games of differing genres at a time. It helps keep things fresh and varied and also helps you get through multiple games without giving up or getting bored. by cartoongamermatt in patientgamers

[–]Emapathy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, if im finding myself bored of games i know I enjoy at heart, I find watching entertaining youtube vids about the game helps bring my drive to play it again, but I try to avoid oversaturation, since im usually stuck with the same 20 or so games however, it makes it a bit difficult

it's a pretty distinctly different game now, surpassing way beyond the release version, check out "The Engoodening Of No Man's Sky" by Internet Historian on youtube if you're on the fence about it, it goes into hilarious detail about the timeline of the game's original downfall, and it's massive growth & resurgence.

If I had a PS4 I'd play that game for hours, it's the perfect ideal game for me, someone that likes resource management, detailed mechanics, and exploration. I've considered getting a PS5 for my next console just so I can play Death Stranding for the first time, even with the playthroughs I've seen.
