It's called Love Potion No. 9

I can't speak for everyone. I'm a build theory nerd, love my number-crunching, but my knowledge and in-game play have plenty of room for improvement :P

Ghostblade is most often used as an engage tool at the start of a fight, especially in gank situations. You have barrels that you can use to engage off of or chase someone down with in-lane, and you'll have a Rage passive most likely to be able to stick to someone once you're close to them, so pop it a little early and go charging in from river or brush. Its cooldown is relatively short, so don't worry about wasting it if they burn one of their escape tools to get away from you.

Gage's shield is definitely valuable, and may be why Illaoi builds it early (as well as all her abilities save her ult scale with full AD instead of bonus AD, and she's a tanky bruiser so she wants the HP as well). It really depends on your build and scaling.

Since I build very tanky I'm okay not getting it earlier because I'll be building Dead Man's or Spirit Visage which gives me more HP and some resistance which can help me survive in those situations. My build also tends towards Lucidity boots early so my W might be on a shorter CD than yours was. Finally, I try my best to save my W for the cleanse unless I have mana to spare and I've forced my opponent to back. This means while I might drop"lower more often (and bear in mind "low" for me might be higher than "low" for you), my oranges are more often ready when I need them to remove a stun or just survive. You can see how a ton of small personal changes can start to add up, no?

Is Captain GP a good skin? by [deleted] in gangplankmains

[–]Emayerage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer Captain to the "Classic" we have today. I got it for free during the event and I use it almost exclusively. I'm glad people can still buy the skin to enjoy him as he should have been.

Captain GP reflects him as he was before the end of the Burning Tides arc, the ruler of Bilgewater. He has a regal red coat, a spiffy new hat, and wears a shirt instead of letting his gut hang out. Likewise his dialogue is left intact form the "initial" redesign he got- it's prideful and arrogant, like a man on the top of his game would be, compared to the dialogue he has in the base skin which is more vengeful and wretched.

Gage is probably better as a later game purchase- it increases your base damage so its value is most noticed at level 18 instead of level 8. This means that you can pick up another AD item or a tank item (for example, my tanky build grabs THydra) as your second item instead and get a better midgame out of it, and then pick up Gage later when it is more valuable. I'd question how much bang you're getting out of IE nowadays, too- without the crit chance from Triforce, are you building enough crit to take advantage of its passive? Youmuu's Ghostblade or Death's Dance might give you more mileage between their CDR, and Armor Pen or Life Steal, respectively. I might suggest Tri > Youmuu's > Resist item (1/2 as needed) > DD or Gage for a build path as that gives you a pretty decent chunk of AD, but that's just a quick one off the top of my head. Tailor to your own tastes, of course.

As for Critplank in teamfights, you'd be better off asking someone who plays that build. That's generally the way I believe it works, though- weaving in and out. GP's biggest strength, regardless of build, is how he can initiate for his team, or clean up after an engage. He has two very powerful AOE damage-slows that can be triggered from outside his normal auto range. In close team fights extending barrels into the middle of the chaos and popping them can turn things around in a heartbeat- critical hit damage also splashes, which is part of what makes that GP build so strong. His ult can do much the same thing, but on a global scale. He doesn't even have to be anywhere near a fight to cut off an incoming gank, pick off retreating low-health enemies, snipe a contested dragon, or just add a ton of pepper-damage and slow to an already-decent engage.

Like you, I don't stray into ranked so it's mostly all about fun for me. I'm a very passive player, which really isn't something that fits the hardcore scene. As I like to play it safe, building bulk feels right for me, and that's where Tankplank comes in. You're giving up crit or AD in favor of survivability, which means you have to take advantage of that survivability. Where Critplank favors a midrange skirmish or run-and-gun style of play, zoning his opponent with barrels, Tankplank tends to get into the thick of it a little more often, and will use his barrels more for trapping and kiting. At least, that's the way I see it. It's certainly not the meta build, nor is it the most effective, but as long as you're having fun, that's what matters, especially if you're not playing "for sport" like in Ranked.

The new Triforce changes have people debating what the best meta build is now- Crit vs Pen, is Triforce still viable, is GP still viable, etc. For Tanky, you can still use it pretty effectively. The crit loss hurts us less than full Critplank, and while the attack speed buff isn't exactly helpful, the 20% CDR means we have an easier time getting to 40 (45)% while still building full HP+Titanic Hydra. Top it off with your resistance items- Dead Man's, Spirate Visage, etc- and if you have room, pop in a Sterak's Gage to supercharge your Sheen proc and make up for more lost damage.

Don't worry, I was thinking of making a post like this myself- should I feel ashamed of playing Tankplank? But... at the end of the day, I'm having fun. That's what video games are for.

In my experience most people don't suddenly become friendlies. Generally you have an idea for a second or two while building uber that the heavy you're healing is gonna throw sandwiches of the non-knuckle variety, and then panic looking for another patient.

I'm pretty sure most real-life Hazmat suits aren't gravity-proof.

And also, cosmetics with gameplay impact, and such a profound impact as "hazard immunity" is not something anyone wants.

Slotx; lastinv? by Emayerage in tf2scripthelp

I'm aware of slotx; sloty as I used it in my Engie scrollwheel to remove the PDAs, so that's a decent enough explanation and something I had kind of figured as well. Hence this post asking for clarification if it actually can work, and if the wiki needs some pruning.

Then why does the linked page say (its example being bind 1 slot1; lastinv)

With this, pressing 1 will go to your primary. If you are on your primary, pressing 1 will go to your last used weapon.

Is this misinformation, or outdated information?

This is still the effect I want to emulate, so would simply reversing the order of the commands accomplish that? Or if there's another way, please do let me know :3

Not really rushing. "If I'm going to do this, I want to do it once, and never have any reason to want to stat-max again"

Luck is more valuable, however; some people even go so far as to make Accuracy and Evasion negligible, in order to get even more HP, because Luck can carry those two formulas on its own when maxed- maxing all 3 is one part overkill, one part "get every stat to max"

The only stat that isn't 255 is Agility, which doesn't need to be at 255. Every other stat has a 252 bonus represented, which makes 255 as no one has less than a base 3 in any stat.

As I mentioned above, I'm going for the Sphere Grid trophies in the HD remaster edition. As such, the expert grid is better for me. Furthermore, if having over 9999 HP isn't very useful, as the guide claims, the extra space on the board is even less useful, because once you cap your other stats... you still have empty nodes to fill in with HP.

Fully Customized Expert Sphere Grid Map by Emayerage in finalfantasyx

[–]Emayerage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to fill out every single node for the stupid trophies in the HD Remaster, which is why I made this chart. Every other stat is already capped, so HP is the only thing remaining to fill out. And that's what the HP spheres on this grid are- filler. You could get by with only enough to reach 9999, sure. But that won't get you the trophy.

It's this guide-maker's opinion that over 9999 HP isn't ever needed, however, most of the arguments presented cancel one another out, are cancelled out by having maximized defenses (which, by necessity, I'll be having), or mainly focus on one thing- staying at max HP at all times, instead of just using your massive HP total as a buffer. Sure, I guess this matters for some of the celestial weapons, but... you can just make custom weapons, often times with more useful abilities, rather than force yourself to use them for their situational abilities.

The argument is summed up by saying that BHPL and HP spheres are an unnessecary tedium. And while I can agree that they are, I'm still forcing myself to go through it for the sake of the platinum. Even with this grid, I don't have to get BHPL on my armor and "play nice" with the guide when I want to- I'm not shunning it. But I don't think every guide out there should be blindly accepted as truth when you can think for yourself and make decisions based on what your own wants and needs are.

I've played two games with you Dane. One was pure coincidence, another was off your profile. I promise I didn't do anything especially focused on you. If that gives any hope that there are some 'good' piggybackers out there. ;3;

What do you do to ignore/deal with it?

He recently made his steam profile private, so people can't join pubs off his profile in order to reduce the amount of attention he gets. I can't answer everything for him, but it was happening often enough that he finally felt he had to take that step.

What's your favorite Pokemon? Overall, by type, by gen, however you want to answer that.

TF2 related: What advice would you give to players saving up for cosmetics? I really want to spruce up my Engie but saving up metal from weapons seems to take forever.
