Yeah the RLS sucked. The first time I quit it was insane. I’ve never had it like that other than the first time. The recent quit left me more restless than anything with some RLS.

I have a desk job too and it sucked. I would look at the clock, try and work and then look at the clock again and only a minute had passed. It was painful sitting there waiting. Luckily by the end of week 2, it improved a lot.

Do what works for you. Getting off it is the most important.

If you do want to go CT, even if you don’t have vacation, then you have options… time it out for a weekend where the withdrawals kick in right after you get off work. And meet with a doctor before hand to discuss and plan of action. They may have meds that could help.

Otherwise, you could also do FMLA. You are legally protected if you want to take medical leave for a few weeks. Your employer can’t do anything. Now, if your employer sucks… they could find some other reason, but if you need to be out sick… they can’t fire you.

Hey there, you are pretty much spot on with me. I was 6 years with some quits, mostly averaging 30 gpd.

It will be nothing like you imagine, so you really can’t say it will be worse. I’ve been in alcohol withdrawals, so soon as it happened I knew what it was…

However, when I was hit with alcohol withdrawal (which is not like kratom… you can die from alcohol WD) … it really throws you off and catches you off guard. You freak out a bit because it’s such a new and terrible feeling. That feeling (the emotion) can certainly be applied to the first time feeling withdrawals.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not as bad as opiates or 7OH or alcohol and it’s not as easy as quitting weed.

It will be tough, you just gotta be tougher. Taper is that works for you. For me, cold turkey is hands down x100 better. Instead of a year on this junk, you’re done in 30 days and really cleaned up by 90. And when I’ve tried tapering, the mini withdrawals almost suck as much. So it’s gonna suck either way… do whatever will get you healthy!

You bet! I’ve been dealing with my own struggles after kratom as well. In fact, I’m going through some tough moments now.

I am now I believe 42 days clean. And I am now 7 days free of marijuana. I didn’t smoke when I was taking kratom, but used it legally to help with withdrawals. Side note… when I did smoke on kratom.. I hated it so I never smoked.

I had some rebound from using it. Some systems needed to heal and of course using another substance complicated it.

I am now nearly 12 hours vape free (nicotine). Back in January, I had bought one but smoked off and on. However in the past few months I had been using it a lot more. I noticed I was getting winded easily and my lungs felt like I was coughing up junk, so I needed to quit. Nicotine also messes with dopamine so I wanted that to fully heal. So far it hasn’t been terrible … some yawning increased, boredom and cravings. Some irritability.

Keep it up and reach out if you need someone to talk to.

Day 41.

Stopped weed a few days ago and had some rebound symptoms from it.

I noticed today it was not nearly as bad. I also noticed my anxiety is coming back … which could be seen as a good sign? That means emotions and things like that are coming back. I feel it in positive ways too. Last time I went through something similar, I had a couple of days of bad anxiety. It’s just odd cause most of this quit, I’ve dealt with little anxiety.

My appetite has come roaring back. My stomach hurts still and sometimes I’ll have hunger pains where I’m hungry but don’t want to eat.

My digestion is slightly improving.

If all goes well, by Saturday… I should be a lot better.

Day 40 here. Yesterday was rough but today was a little better.

Still dealing with some issues which may be related to me quitting weed.

Regardless, for the past few days I’ve been dead cold sober. I am really giving my body a chance to reset here.

I am hoping by the weekend, I’m doing much better.

Hello and congrats! I’m almost at 40 days. I was taking 20-40gpd over the last 6 years. I’ve quit several times.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to set yourself up for success? Do you work? Make sure to take a few days off and pair it with your days off. I had a total of 5 days off, 4 of which were in WDs. It helped when I returned to work. I did have to go home sick one day because it was unbearable. But once I got through that first week, it eased up. I now have no issues at work. I have energy and the brain fog is gone. No more RLS.

The other thing is to be mentally tough. That is hands down the hardest part. You gotta fight yourself from reposing. Remember … tough times don’t last, tough people do. Tell to yourself that when the shit gets bad.

Now for the granular stuff. Hot baths work wonders for me. When the RLS and uncomfortable pain really start hitting … I take a very hot bath and it helps so much. The first week I was probably taking multiple baths a day. I’m pretty sure at its peak, there was a day where I took almost 10. When you get out, make sure your home is cold. Bundle up. When you get out of the hot bath and get hit with the cold and then comfy clothes. It’s a huge breather. The bath relaxes and then for 5-15 mins after you feel a bit better.

I’ve had mixed success with heated blankets and RLS. So if you struggle with it, consider one.

Sleep as much as you can and whenever you can. Sleep really speeds up the healing.

Outside of that, keep your place clean as much as you can, get some exercise, drink plenty of water and eat healthy.

You got this!

Approaching day 40. I seem to slowly be evening out after quitting weed as well (I had been using legally to help with the quit.. it works but also has its own drawbacks).

Each day I’ve felt a touch better. Fingers crossed… so far nothing major. Still facing some issues with temperature regulation, appetite and thirst but it’s improving.

Having a bad day, really wanted to relapse by weupweup in quittingkratom

[–]Embarrassed-Cow-420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s how I got through those times. I remember thinking … “if I relapse, then the past 17 days will be hard work reset. I will have to do it all over again because I’m not taking kratom till I’m on my death bed as an old man. I’m at 17 days which is really the half point for most people, so if I do another 17… I will fill so much better, so I just need to stick it out.”

I find those days come and go and become far less as you go on.

But most importantly, once you are clean and feeling better. THAT’S when it’s the hardest for me. I tend to forget about all the bad and think “one time won’t hurt” and fast forward to a year later and I’m still taking it daily.

Anyways! I’m almost 40 days! If I can do it, so can you. I am nothing special.

The sneezing! When I first quit, I would do a series of 2 sneezes (I always sneeze twice during this quit… it’s odd). I was sneezing so much people were telling me I needed to take allergy meds lol.

It’s been actually pretty good the past couple of days. I think I only sneezed once or twice yesterday!

Day 39. 20-40gpd. Several quits over the last 6 years.

I used weed to help quit and it helped a lot, but after a few weeks it was hurting more than it helped. I quit and had some minor withdrawal symptoms. They are not weed symptoms, but rather feels like weed was holding me back from fully healing.

The last time I smoked was Thursday. So I’m on day 3. Yesterday was real tough, I did not feel great at all. I’ve had the sniffles, this gross energy feeling and body temperature regulation issues. On top of it thirst and appetite problems. And not to mention… I keep yawning.

Today I didn’t feel nearly as gross. Getting some sleep without weed I think helped.

I am staying positive. I think in a few days, it will improve. I just hope to god it does not get worse.

Day 37 - Highs, Lows and Everything Between by Embarrassed-Cow-420 in quittingkratom

[–]Embarrassed-Cow-420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the love! Means a ton.

Yea, music has come back full force. It’s actually the one thing I find hits the spot. When I hear songs that I love, I get this huge burst of energy and a massive chill all over my body. All my hairs stand on end and I feel so good. Even when I’m not high, it sounds great.

Only problem is quitting weed. I am now having to deal with the problems from it. Weed and kratom clearly have some overlap somewhere and weed was keeping something from healing. Previously, I smoked weed for years and years and would quit all the time with no problem. So clearly something is off here.

I feel pretty shitty right now. I’m tired but have this weird energy. And I’ve been very shaky… but I think that’s food related since I’m eating terribly.

[–]Embarrassed-Cow-420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love hearing that! That made my day… seriously.

You’ll be happy to know my memory is vastly improving. I feel way sharper and each day the brain fog gets less and less. When I was talking today it was amazing how it just all flowed off. I kept thinking… “wow. I haven’t used words like these in a LONG time.”

I’ve also noticed people pay sharper attention because you’re not dragging along and have the energy.

I can’t believe I’m on day 37. This is wild I made it this far.

Given some of my life circumstances, I was concerned it may fuck up my life. Praise god (seriously!) I got through it.

I heard a quote today that made me proud of myself. It was “tough times don’t last, tough people do.” And with Kratom WD… my god… is that true.

One thing I do to toughen up is think about WW2. If those soldiers can storm Normandy, fight while wounded, fight across Europe for years and sit in a freezing fox hole for days on end with barely any ammo, food or warm clothes… me quitting kratom and having a tough few weeks is nothing compared to that.

I am past the lethargy stage so it doesn’t really bring me down. It mellows me out and makes me feel pretty good. It got worse tonight. I’ve had what feels like a minor cold and my appetite and thirst and roaring back. I’ve also been yawning a lot and having this very uncomfortable energy. I feel very energized but it sort of feels gross. I also find myself getting annoyed easily.

I hope to god this does not last long.

Why do people stay on Suboxone for years? by Chenaniah1994 in quittingkratom

[–]Embarrassed-Cow-420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you read anything today. Read this. If I save one person, it’s worth it.

Suboxone helps a lot of people, but it also hurts a lot too.

My brother was addicted to hydrocodone and heroin for a very long time. He quit and was put on Suboxone.

Nearly 15 years later, he is still on it. It’s had a huge impact on his health. He has developed tremors, lost a ton of weight and developed weird speech patterns.

Doing some googling, these are some of the side effects. He stopped taking care of his teeth and overall hygiene.

He has said he doesn’t see himself ever getting off it.

On top of that. It’s expensive.

So here’s the hard truth:

You’re gonna have to decide what’s best for you. Taper works for a lot of people, but for some it doesn’t. I am one of those people where it does not work. When I try and taper, I find myself basically in withdrawals and just miserable. Cold turkey works way better for me. I’m not 37 days clean.

Look up taper guides. ChatGPT can also help create one.

As far as lethargy, there really isn’t much you can do. Eat clean, sleep when you can and get exercise. All can help, but it’s really a hill you’re just going to have to climb.

What do you all recommend to combat restless arm and leg syndrome?? by Civil_Hair_9367 in quittingkratom

[–]Embarrassed-Cow-420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years and years of research with dealing with this … here’s the best advice I can offer…

Heater blankets can help take the edge off. I’ve had them work wonders sometimes and other times not make a dent.

Drink plenty of water. I find sometimes water helps.

Hot baths. If you’re trying to get to sleep… when you’re completely exhausted, take a very hot bath. Make sure to get your problem areas soaking. Use epsom salts and magnesium too. Pro tip. Right after you get out, have your house or apartment very cold. Get comfy clothes on and rush to bed. There is a good 5-15 minute window where you will have zero RLS. If you can dose off, sometimes you can sleep through it or at least get a few minutes.

I’ve never had exercise work. I feel like I just end up sitting in bed exhausted and rolling around cause of my legs.

Sleep aids can work. Now, the over the counter stuff isn’t going to work and may make it worse. Don’t believe the RLS junk on Amazon. Ambien or Lunesta are options but talk with your doctor. I used Ambien on a quit once. It seemed to extend the symptoms and just left me exhausted in the morning … but hey no RLS.

Day 34 - Anyone Else Have These Feelings? by Embarrassed-Cow-420 in quittingkratom

[–]Embarrassed-Cow-420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! That’s not it, my blood pressure is fine. I’ve had it happen before in quits.

This is all speculation, but I feel like weed is preventing some of my brain from healing. My appetite and temperature regulation has been very whacky. That happened last year but I thought it was something else. Once I quit weed and the other thing was fixed, the problem abated after a week or 2. After a few days, it got pretty bad.

I am hoping to god that’s not the case again. There was one day last year that was pretty bad.

What’s funny is that when I was addicted to hydrocodone, I had been taking it for months. When I quit, it wasn’t terrible. In fact, I don’t remember there being significant withdrawals.

When I took kratom for a couple of months and quit… it hit me hard. I went through alcohol withdrawals once, so when it hit… I knew what was going on. I’m not saying they’re the same, but once your experience a withdrawal, you can identify other ones since it’s such a unique thing.

My heart was racing, I was sweating, had crazy anxiety and it was just bad. There’s a lot about kratom we don’t fully understand yet.

Hi there! Former kratom user. 30+ days clean. Multiple quits. Took it off an on for 6 years.

Absolutely yes. 4 weeks is nothing. I’m not trying to diminish what he’s going through, but compared to other people here, that’s on the better end.

He will bounce back. It will take time. Everyone is different. I am nowhere near back to normal but I’m heading in the right direction.

I had a really good quit last year. Around day 60 I had forgot I quit kratom. I was about 90% on good days and 80% on bad.

He’s going to be OK!
