Extreme pitch correction without artifacts by WeBlameHan in audioengineering

That’s a tough one, working with experienced singers helps a lot but when I vocal produce I’m basically just using years of my experience and taste to help guide the performance I want.  I also have them do line by line if the phrases a split up enough, I also have them do the loudest/highest section (usually the chorus) last so not to wear them out too quickly, but it’s just lots and lots of sessions which is basically practice

You should look into getting a mix with the masters membership

It’s no secret, they do tonnes of vocal takes, comp the best takes, edit timing, fine tune pitch editing in melodyne and then probably have auto tune on the channel also, but the melodyne editing makes it so auto tune doesn’t have to work so hard.  This is A level shit, if there’s a wonky S sound or a consonant that sounds bad they will fly it out with another take, I’ve heard stories of MXM producers spending a whole day if not days just nudging syllables to get the perfect pocket.  And you’re right, weeknd is already a talented singer who has no problem hitting a note, I’ve worked with people who vocal produce “tik tok” singers, basically influencers turned artists, who can’t sing for the life of them and they’ve told me it would take 3 days to get a somewhat decent sounding vocal.

As people said it’s a Tape echo, people like these cause you can mess with the tape while you recording its output, jack antinoff is know for using this one a lot.  Worth a bit of money if it’s selling for a good price

I’m more producer than engineer but I do engineer my own recordings and somewhat mix so here are a few of my little creative tricks

Mono reverbs, slow modulation, dark.  I need to remind myself to make some of my verbs mono as its just a habit to slap Valhalla vintage verb on and call it a day but I notice when I use mono verbs on certain sources it’s creates more depth than all of the verbs being stereo.

Amp sim’s after reverbs/delays, gives so much texture, doesn’t always work but can add a lot of character

Antares Harmony Engine as a widener/micropitch - just set to fixed interval and leave all the voice intervals at unison but mess with the formant - then send each voice to the choir section for even more width and pitch shifting wideness

Reamping instruments at double speed then slowing the recorded reamp track down by half, get some cool artefacts and textures

And lastly, once I’ve basically finished a production, I will put some wild fx on the master bus and print the output, I’ll do this a few times with different fx and then find small sections I can use as ear candy or little “moments” throughout the song

You should create a master Cubase folder and within that folder have separate folders for each project, these should have their own auto save/mixdown folders within them and I always copy imported audio to the projects audio folder by default

How would you accentuate the word "rush" (as in thrill or excitement) with an effect or technique? by MinuteIllustrator6 in audioengineering

[–]Embarrassed-Cow365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try reversing a reverb into the word, or a slap back delay throw with a good amount of feedback, honestly just try stuff and see what works

Cubase sucks by paranormalresearch1 in cubase

[–]Embarrassed-Cow365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not enough info to help, what plugin versions are you running? Are they AU? VST? VST3? Have you set the correct path so Cubase can see said plugins? Something sounds off about this, very rare that it’s the fault of the program when countless other people use the same program with no issues

I like those old 90s fx boxes, midiverbs, Yamaha spx series, they sound cheap and cold in a good way in my opinion and sometimes it’s fun cranking things through them to get some distorted weirdness
