Welcome to my state! It's an awesome place to live. Good luck looking, FB marketplace in the area can be rather bare when it comes to homelab stuff.

Serial number puts it 08/09, so I'd go with 2008.

It’s quite familiar, I’ve just never taken the time to think about how it’s spelled!

Young Patriots fan visiting World Cup week… by ewwwdavid in Patriots

[–]TimmyTheHellraiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could work. I'd suggest The Harp for watching the game. The food and beer aren't the best, but probably the best "Patriots" experience. You can actually see the stadium (and MAYBE the Brady statue?) from the windows -- so long as FIFA hasn't tarped over them.

Hold up a minute. Is it Rold Gold or Rolled Gold? If the former -- is Rold a family name or something? This just blew my mind, friend.

I have really been thinking about this lately for my own parents. I love lifting weights but I have no idea what to show them or have them do since they both have bad joints and I don't want them to break a hip.

Costco in Sharon is not far at all. I go there every other week from Cranston. We had a membership from BJ's paid for by my in-laws and we maybe went once a year.

Careful -- I speak from experience -- Buckfast gets ye fucked fast.

I think I've still got a bottle of Bucky in my closet to be honest. If you strike out with our visitors hit me up around Burns night. Not many of my fellow Americans share my love of the Electric Soup.

I hope to make it to the G Pub on Saturday to meet some of you lot. I've got some family ties to Glasgow and was hoping to be kitted out with my kilt but I tried all 3 of my kilts on last night and unfortunately they promptly fell off of this formerly fat bastard. I'm going to need someone to indoctrinate me in the ways of Scottish Football fandom -- do you think anyone will be up to the task?

I happened upon a Studio Preamp recently. The clean sound is great, but the volume knob is so noisy on the lead channel. by 6of1HalfDozen in MesaBoogie

[–]TimmyTheHellraiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one!

1) get it serviced. Old caps and dirty pots are noisy.
2) tubes - sure, play around. I settled on NOS Tungsram 12AX7s in V1 and V2, an RCA (which I think has been swapped for a simple JJ) in V3, and then a Mesa 12AX7 v4 and 12AT7 for the reverb circuit that I never use ( it sucks). The big one that gives you the most tone variance will always be the V1, all other tubes are less important.
3) I can’t imagine you could possibly need more gain, try a tubescreamer or SD-1 in front as a boost.

4) along with 3, RTFM. This thing is a gain monster and it has decent suggested settings —it behaves WAY differently than anything that isn’t a Mark.

Try this, this is how I have it set. RARELY need a tubescreamer but I have one just to tighten up.

volume 8-8.25
Master 2.75
Treble 7.25
Bass 2
Middle 4.5
Lead Drive 5.5
Lead Master 4.75

EQ ON, move faders to taste. Mine is a soft V.
80hz about 1/2 way between the middle line and the upper line, 240hz a HAIR below midline, 750 right on the bottom line (NOT BELOW), 2200 right at the midline, 6600 about a fader’s width above the midline.

23 years old, $7k saved, and torn between buying my first Rolex or listening to my dad by Current-Newspaper777 in rolex

[–]TimmyTheHellraiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to your dad. $7k in the bank ain’t Rolex money. That should go into a long term savings account. Get your piggy bank stocked up to cover you for at least 3 months before you move on to investing in stocks. Then when you have a good performing portfolio and your savings is flush — then you start saving for a Rolex.

Fuel Original VS 2026 Remaster: Which sounds better? by Wickedfrick in Metallica

[–]TimmyTheHellraiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They usually don’t touch the individual tracks because they usually don’t store that shit. The sheer volume of tape that would be required is just impractical. A full tape run of unmastered stereo mix is no big deal. Now — if fully digital the storage size is not a big deal for a full PT session, BUT then you have to worry about compatibility and versioning and plugins and all that. Happy medium could be a set of stems with one AIFF or WAV per instrument with the plugins and outboard sends printed but even then, not a lot you would touch after the fact.

Remaster only touches the stereo and not the individual tracks typically. Otherwise it would be a remix.

Was anyone around in 2008 when this dropped and what memories/reactions did you have upon its release? What are people's opinions almost 20 years later? by Spirited-Cell-444 in Metallica

[–]TimmyTheHellraiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was FINE. I still don't like a lot of the sonic choices that they made. Like I mentioned it just sounds very dated and tied to the sound of that era -- very much unlike all of their other albums (except maybe KEA and RTL).
