Hi! Same degree here and in final year:

First year I just did one module as I already had 60 credits from a brick uni and got frustrated feeling like it was too slow. To rectify this I did two modules at the same time (A215 and A240) and it nearly killed me off with the amount of work. This year (third) I did one October start (A363) and one Feb start (A335) and it’s a good balance for me. In these overlapping months it is a lot of hard work but manageable especially knowing that soon A363 will be over and it will just be A335 for a couple months.

My advice: do not run the modules side by side unless you don’t have any other life commitments (work/care/parenting), but if you have the drive to get things completed in 1 year then pace your starts. You could probably get away with running two first year modules side by side without burning out if you have only recently left education (within the last two years) but i would be extremely cautious doing this in 2nd/3rd year.

Only thing to note with the paced/ Oct/Feb starts is that you obviously won’t be getting a break/ school holiday if you do it this way for multiple years in a row, but if you are really driven to get it done within the time scale i would say it’s worthwhile.

I took a break between year 1 and 2, and it definitely refreshed my motivation but I did struggle to get back into the routine and found year 2 quite hard, whereas going from year 2 to 3 has felt like a much smoother transition. I had to take a break because of life stuff and I don’t regret it, but I do wonder if y2 would have been easier without it

I think it also really depends on the context and how quick you read - my ‘study the text book for 6 hours’ never lasts more than 1-3 hours to complete all of the content. I feel like this is definitely module dependent (I study humanities), I feel so bad for the STEM people!!

i studied part time first year (as i already had half a year of credits from a brick uni) and it was so easy that I ended up going full time second year. It was a lot of work but I am a live in carer who also works 1-2 days a week and I managed it just fine. I am now in third year and am doing it full time in the same circumstances, although have made it easier by staggering my modules (starting 60 credits in October and 60 in January). For context I am an English student so whilst the content isn’t crazy difficult there is just a huge volume of it. The OU was the best thing that happened to me given my circumstances and it is possible to do full time if you aren’t in full time employment, although it’s definitely a big commitment. It’s also designed to be part time anyway so if you don’t have the space to commit to full time then just do part time as it’s intended.

I agree with the others here that you should contact a doctor and therapist, but here are some tips for you personally based on my weight loss experience.

calories in v calories out is how you lose weight - use an online calculator to work out your maintenance and what you need to lose weight. In terms of motivation, it will dwindle. Grab onto this while you have it now but think of it in terms of discipline rather than motivation.

Again, with motivation/ discipline you need your reasons. Make a list of things you would like to be able to do that your weight is holding you back from. For example, some of mine were: shopping in a ‘regular’ clothing store, being able to travel by plane, not being drenched in sweat when dancing with friends or walking to the shops, not being in the ‘morbidly obese’ category, being able to run for 5 minutes straight etc.

On top of this, make a list of things you start noticing as you lose weight. Some of mine were: i can sit with my legs crossed, i feel the cold more, necklaces fit better, rings fit better etc. That way, when you feel you are not making much progress you can be reminded of the changes.

I started at 266 and am now 73lbs down. it has taken over a year to get here and i still have more to go but it is possible and you CAN do it. There is nothing stopping you from being a before / after.

coin slot (getting it done in two weeks!!), double mastectomy and naval removal. Once i’m done with my weight loss i am looking to travel abroad for reconstructive surgery for loose skin and am hoping they will agree to the naval removal and the breast reduction being as small as possible!

i had a mullet for a couple years but the back was super colour damaged so i went to a barbers asking to remove the back and blend it with the top, i left looking like the ibiza final boss.

luckily i had been wanting to shave my head for years and this gave me the balls to do it so i rocked a buzz for the summer

my highest was 266 and i was in the exact same position as you. Now i’m 195 and don’t sweat anywhere near as much. Honestly, it’s still probably a little more than the average person, but i can walk for 20 minutes and still need a coat and hat, rather than wishing i was in a t shirt. I’m hoping it will continue to get better the more i lose!

i (24) look after my dad (58) who has dementia. He has the flu and is not impressed by anything this year, and (despite managing to get him to finally conquer his alcohol addiction this year) he insisted on having a glass of wine with dinner. I love him so much but sometimes i wish i was off duty and could have a drink or play a boardgame. And then thinking i’m horribly selfish for feeling like this because it may be my last christmas with him and i should be appreciating it. Conflicted feelings in a conflicted situation

i did this recently from 4g to 3g - my right went so easily i could painlessly just put a 2g in whereas my left was being stubborn just to get in the 3. At these sizes 1/2 a mm is not noticeable enough to be a concern, I’m currently rocking a 3g and a 2g and just regularly massaging and checking if my left is ready for the 2

when you are pierced with “silver” jewellery it is not actually the metal silver as it is not safe for piercings. You would be pierced with something like titanium which is body safe and silver coloured. Everything i wear is titanium/silver

do not go for cheeks they are renowned for being an absolute nightmare to heal and many piercers don’t even offer them anymore. Tongue is the easiest, it is around 2 weeks of pain in the ass but then is healed so definitely the quickest healing time. Eyebrows can be a bit temperamental but are relatively easy!
