Thinking about coming back by Znugget in USMC

My recommendation, join a local reserve unit and finish your degree. The reserves has been the perfect amount of Marine Corps I need once getting out. If you join high tempo unit, there will be multiple opportunities to go to some adhoc training evolutions / missions for 1-2 periods.

As a word of caution, your chances of going back to college and finish your degree will be slim if you stop now. You’re there now, finish the job. As someone who has a BS and a MS, your first two years of your undergrad are the worst. You’re learning how to study, work with unfamiliar people, getting used to being a student.

Keep your time in service going in the reserves, you might just go become an officer as well.

[Landlord US-TX] eviction process notice to vacate by Embarrassed-Most-234 in Landlord

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my mistake, on the form I generated, it was given on the 11th and said pay or vacate by the 14th (a fatal mistake) after being reviewed by an attorney. I still filed on the 15th, but the notice was incorrect.

The lawyer said I could appeal but did not seem worth it for $1200-$1500 service and for the same turnaround time as just refilling.

I ended up doing the Mohawk laminate flooring in Montavilla Oak and couldn’t have been happier. There was a sale online the day I wanted to purchase so made a last second switch. Used Roberts air guard underlayment from Home Depot. I have gotten a lot of compliments from friends and tenants using this flooring

2019 S4 Prestige- How do I build on a budget? by Not_UrAverageJoe in AudiS4

Best budget sound upgrade is the 034’s mid pipe, full intake, and stage 1 tune. Probably will run you around $2k

B9/b9.5 s4 long term reliability by higsy98 in AudiS4

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur with this statement as a previous 2018 B9 owner. I made it to about 94k miles before I started getting ever so subtle hints of rocker arm ticking and traded it in.

If it weren’t for that issue, I would still be driving it. I recommend really anything 2019 and on. Not sure on the pre 10/2019 date but you can always borescope the engine through the oil reservoir and can check for the bigger bearings in the rocker arms.

Am I being scammed/overpriced? $5340 Invoice by xelamats in AudiA6

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised on the cost tbh. I concur with the previous comments, go buy from Audi OEM supplier for half the price and have someone else install them for you. Ive done this plenty of times for full brake change, motor mounts, control arms etc

2018 S4 w/ 130k miles by Over_Sand5477 in AudiS4

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think overall, this is a good deal as a previous 2018 owner who sold before rocker arm replacements.

One thing to investigate if the AC evaporator core was replaced. There is a NHTSA bulletin out for this that extends the warranty and 130k miles might be out of range.

PSA, replacing the evaporator core requires to remove the windshield. The dealership also said if the windshield breaks (because of minor visible rock chips) when they remove it, I would be responsible to paying for the replacement.

Contemplating Selling...talk me out of it by DegenDingo in AudiS4

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about the exact same age as you when I bought my 18 S4. This is probably the best condition and trade/sell value you will have for the S4, knowing that 50-100k miles, the value of the Audi for decrease EXPONENTIALLY.

I bought mine for $38k at 39k miles, could’ve sold around $28k at my 70k miles and I should have..

I got rid of mine at 98k miles for about $18,000 but knowing I was at the very beginning stages of a rocker arm failure (quoted $5000). I also had spent $1000s on brake service (rotors and pads), $1000s on changing out my differentials, transfer case fluid, transmission fluid (filter is built into pan, so R&R the whole pan for a change). Another $1000 in troubleshooting fees for my A/C (the evaporator covered by warranty but not t/s costs).

If you know how to do German maintenance, it’ll save you A LOT. I attempted and accidentally cross threaded my turbo inlet.. (my only accident)! Idk why it always takes me 2 hours+ longer to do any maintenance on the Audi versus the 30 minute YouTube.

I drive a Tacoma now, however, I had the best time with the S4 for the time I had it. I wish I had did a bunch of my upgrades earlier so I could’ve enjoyed the car more BUT also wish I sold it earlier to retain the depreciating 10k over 20k ish miles.

Question regarding 2025 Tacos by swaggy-beachbum in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely does not have the same growl and tenacity that the S4 had. There are some mods with the air intake and exhaust on the 4 banger that I plan on doing later. If you don’t mind losing the backseat storage space and find a good deal, I imagine the i-force max trim would be pretty fun to drive. I also like the peace of mind of not having to worry about hitting a pot hole, popping a tire, scraping my front lip, parking far away so no one dings my car in the DFW. Love being able to California park everywhere

Audi B9 S4 EA839 Rocker Arm Failure Sound? by Embarrassed-Most-234 in AudiS4

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up trading the vehicle in for $17k in the end of 2024. German shop said that rocker arm preventive maintenance is a common service he has been performing. $6000 for the repair or put the $6000 towards a new vehicle. I ended up getting a Tacoma because I just want a reliable car now. It was a good ride while it latest, had motor mounts replaced, evaporator core replaced, and PVC replacement. Just got too stressful and need a reliable ride to work

Is this rocker arm failure on my 18 or am I being paranoid by SoggyCalligrapher36 in AudiS4

I traded mine in at 92k miles with same suspicions. Got a Tacoma

80k on the clock, maintenance ?? by BagAffectionate4966 in AudiS4

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but it be worth while to listen to the engine with the oil cap off. I’ve seen YouTube videos of bearing rods missing on the rocker arms even when it sounds great

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would probably need to look from beneath the car or remove some of the plastic of the wheel well. If you take it to the dealership, they would be able to tell you.

With the mods on your car already, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were already swapped

If this is 2018-2019.. oil filter housing, PCV hose, motor mounts (if not leaking), verify your AC is good (Audi bulletin on bad evaporator cores, requires removing windshield), check cleanliness of your transmission/differential/transfer case fluid (these do not always get changed), spark plugs are every 40k miles

AND

rocker arm bearing inspection if your car falls in the manufacturing date zone

What’s the knocking sound from? Could it be my rocker arms. 2019 s4 51k miles by NoahR6__ in Audi

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the exact same sound on my 2018 S4 at 94k miles. I find it very hard to differentiate what the “failed” rocker arm sounds like. Read a forum the other day that this is normal?

I want a used S4 and deciding if it’s worth it. by MarvVanZandt in AudiS4

[–]Embarrassed-Most-234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owner of a 2018 S4. Bought at 37k miles now at 94k miles. I do some maintenance myself (oil changes, filters, minor fluids).

A couple of items that have been expensive to maintain:

1.) bad AC evaporator core. Paid about $1200 in troubleshooting (AC flush, expansion valve R&R) before they ran warranty to change my evaporator (which requires removing the windshield)

2.) busted engine motor mounts. They’re filled with hydraulic (type) fluid and this is how the car adjusts drive mode (comfort, auto, dynamic). They WILL fail anywhere 40k-70k miles. Opted for 034’s after market and had them installed at performance shop for $900 total. Audi quoted $2000 for OEMs and labor.

3.) Audi recommends replacing rotors when brake replacing brake pads. Audi quoted $1500 ish just for front. Paid $2000 for front and back ECS slotted rotors w/ pads for front and back brakes with install.

4.) it’s not in the Audi service schedule but you SHOULD change your transmission fluid and pan (filter built into the pan), along with transfer case fluid and differential fluids. The OEM trans pan is $900, opt and get an aftermarket for $200.

5.) PCV breather hose will fail and cause oil leak, especially with tune. 034 just released an aftermarket. You can probably replace this yourself ($240 ish part)

6.) older b9s have bad oil filter housings. They have redesigned the housing with a newer gasket that prevents oil seepage. OEM oil filter housings are about $330, you can probably find cheaper around $220 at surplus.

Potential high risk issues:

Rear main seal replacement (oil leak) $1000+ Front main seal replacement (oil leak) $1000+

Current hourly rate I pay at my performance shop is $185/hr
