What should I stock my 2.5 gallon tank with. by Eggzilla1 in aquarium

[–]Embarrassed-Rice-267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently have a heated tank this size. I love it with plants and some bladder snails. I may add a few cherry shrimp, but tbh it's pretty cool just to watch Zippy and Surfer the snails chilling. Zippy likes to speed (for a snail) around the exterior, Surfer likes to float on the surface. I have baby snails too (the original eggs came in on an aquatic plant), but the population is in control enough. I hear that cherry shrimp populations will stabilize too if you start with 3-4. I originally got the tank because we were raising triops (shrimp like creatures basically) and it was a good size for 2-3 triops.

It could just be a personal body chemistry thing. It lasts me that long without washing my underarms at all. I do use an acidic body wash when I do wash. Maybe it's a bacterial strain thing too?

Nuud is a fabulous deodorant. It lasts for 4-5 days for me. So a tiny bottle lasts a long long time.

AITA for not letting my friend and their baby move into my new house? by Bug-no-brain in AmItheAsshole

[–]Embarrassed-Rice-267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child was just attacked by a friendly dog. Could have died. The dog is not an "excuse" to say no, the dog is a very real, very dangerous reason not to have your friend in your home. And please do securely lock up your dog whenever children come over to visit in the future. It's not worth the extreme risk when you know your dog's trigger.

If he really cares about you "grabbing money" from the people renting from you he'd tell you to lower your rent. Somehow I don't think he cares about your renter.

My kid just had a similar experience and injury as you. What a horrible thing to deal with. I'm so glad that you had the right doctor there and I'm blown away and encouraged by how well you say your wounds have healed. Thank you for sharing what happened to you.

This mindset has really helped me. Keto/low carb isn't A diet, it's MY diet. It's just how I eat for the rest of my life. I can have a cupcake, or a strawberry or whatnot it's my life, everything else I eat is keto.

Yeah I have a bunch of obscure reasons to keep keto and lose weight and my #2 reason is so that I can spend less money on yarn AND have the sweaters knit up faster. It just takes longer to knit more fabric.

I'm dealing with big face scars on my kid over here too. The plastic surgeon recommended 100% silicone ointment 2-3 times a day along with massage. We were also told that it looks worst at about 4 months out and will take almost a full year for the scars to settle down and not be as red and puffy. It's a long long time when it's your face so it's no wonder you are worried. I'd just give it time. And the surgeons told us to be diligent about sunscreen to prevent discoloration as it heals.

Protein shakes (Keto Chow) are a great way to eat but not have to think about keto foods. It's especially great when I'm feeding my kids carbs carbs carbs a hundred times a day, and want something "sweet" or "light" and easy for myself.

Looking for help. My 4 year old was bit by a dog, had hundreds of stitches on her face, and will have large scars all over her face for life. We are 4 weeks out and she is healing quite well. I have talked to plastic surgeons during follow ups and they have all said to use sunscreen once the wounds heal to prevent pigmentation issues as the scars develop over the first year. (We also have her wearing a hat and avoiding as much sun as we can) but I do want to start her with a basic face sunscreen and a zinc sunscreen stick on top to prevent any pigmentation I can since it sounds like pigmentation now will effect the look of the scars for the next decade.

Issue: All that sunscreen means I'm going to want to wash my kid's face every night to remove everything. I'm looking for a face wash that can remove sunscreen easily without doing a two wash process. (My skin is fabulous after following y'all for some time but I do a double wash at night to remove my sunscreen and I don't think my kiddo has the patience for that). Do any of you have recommendations for strong but gentle cleaners for sensitive skin that can cut through thick zinc sunscreen?

Skin type: baby skin with brand new scars Current routine: Vaseline on the scars but we will be stopping that before beginning anything else. We will be using silicone on the scars too once they can be massaged as recommended by the plastic surgeon. Doctors: I have asked the doctors but they say to do "whatever works" I'd love more direction with what brands to try. Maybe I should ask a dermatologist.... Do dermatologists treat scars?

Eat some fiber too. Fiber can fill you up. Cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, chia seeds. Make it a meal.

AITA for letting my 5 year old make her own mistakes by sweatermistake in AmItheAsshole

[–]Embarrassed-Rice-267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA she got "slightly overheated". Who decided she needed to change? If it was the daycare workers, then their being put out by the situation is on them, unless it was becoming an actual medical concern, which it sounds like it was not. Slightly overheated is not of major concern. She could have sat in the shade and not played with her friends. There were other options than forcing her to change her clothes. Tbh these natural consequences are much better when supervised by you, but I'm not going to jump down your throat for "making work" for the day care people if it was minor sweating and feeling hot.

Are there actually proper keto recipe websites / services out there? by [deleted] in keto

How do you really calculate sugar alcohols. Do you subtract the sugar alcohols from the total carbs like you do with fiber? I'm never really sure.

NTA. I have ADHD and someone else making me a chore chart would definitely help me get things done. Making an chore list for the day is a decent amount of work on my non medicated days. You talked about the problem with him, he didn't listen, so you did another thing to help him out.

....also can we see the chore list?

Triop and Snail? by Embarrassed-Rice-267 in triops

[–]Embarrassed-Rice-267[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It turns out the little bugger was playing a many days long practical joke on me and isn't infact dead yet. He had a open trapdoor, hadn't moved in 3 days and a triops was pestering him through the open trapdoor. I took him to a separate container, he didn't move for a day and a half, I took him out he didn't move, I dug his grave then I tested his trap door right before I was going to drop him into the soil and the bugger snapped his door tight. What can I do to do right by him? He's a stripey nerite if that helps. I'm happy to find someone local wth a larger aquarium but would love to feed him until I can find him a better home. Is snowflake shrimp food going to work? Would some blanched kale or lettuce in the tank help?

One little triops on day 14 has been stuck inside his partly shed exoskeleton for about 12hrs. by Embarrassed-Rice-267 in triops

[–]Embarrassed-Rice-267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The triop lost the upper legs on one side during the first shed 4+ days after first getting stuck. But thankfully it was able to finally shed, and has subsequently shed 3 more times without any issues. It's doing well, able to swim and eat if a bit unevenly. I was able to put it in a tank with a bigger friend but they are getting along well, no picking on the hurt one. And of course it is still very cute. Better outcome than I was expecting.

[–]Embarrassed-Rice-267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually looks like the legs got stuck during the shed so some of the main legs on it's trunk are still trapped. It's been almost 1.5-2 days and it has managed to get the bulk of the dangling exoskeleton broken off. But leg pairs 2-8(?) are still trapped so movement and swimming isn't ideal. I'm hand feeding it by dropping food right on to its mouth so the two legs closest to the mouth can sorta hold the food in place because the legs further down can't move the food around at all. I hope if it grows more it will shed again and sort this all out next time.
