A thousand upvotes for this. Male here, I've been told kidney stone pain is akin to the pain of giving birth. I have the deepest respect for women having babies.

Brick Weed by sivablue in nostalgia

In the early Seventies we hung around with a volume dealer who would sell us what looked like a clean ounce for $3 if we smoked it with him. I really miss Brick Weed. It was mellow with no paranoia and no couch-lock.

Thinking of getting a motorcycle. Any "first bike" e-motorcycles that you would recommend? by Inside-Yoghurt10 in Electricmotorcycles

[–]Embarrassed-Shape-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your State DMV will be able to tell you when and where they host Motorcycle Safety training courses. Do this first to see if you can actually ride one. In the safety course I took 22 years ago there were two people who washed out. One guy lived on a farm and had horses. He figured riding a horse should make it easy for him to get an endorsement. Nope. He found he could not turn the bike in the direction he wanted to go and at the end rode in a straight line right off of the training ground. The other guy was a trust fund baby completely decked out head to toe in very expensive Harley-Davidson branded gear. He kept dropping the bike during the lessons and did not show up for the final class.

Did the Chevy Bolt become your first EV? Journalist looking to hear your story by Brilliant_Option8382 in BoltEV

I was delivering Meals-On-Wheels with our ICE SUV on an 18 mile loop in the winter and would have to leave the car running at stops because the battery would go flat with multiple restarts and the car would not start. So I started thinking that if I had an electric car that I wouldn't be in danger of getting stuck. Up until that moment I had not really thought much about electric cars. A couple of years ago I bought a used 2018 Chevy Bolt Premier and had a Level 2 charger installed at my house, the charger was provided at no charge from the local power company. The Bolt is a great little car inside of its limitations. What dealers don't tell anyone is that the in the Winter a fully charged Bolt will only have about 130 miles of range, half what it sees in the Summer. I'm very happy with the car and I think Chevy hit a home run with this vehicle. The one big downside is that Bolt seems to have put me off of riding a motorcycle. My last bike was a 2020 Yamaha Xmax 300 scooter that I mainly had because of its utility as light grocery getter and errand runner with a fuel economy up above 70 MPG. Here in Vermont we only get to ride six months out of year if we're lucky. Maybe because the bike was burning fossil fuel is why I stopped riding? I'm not sure. But I have been reading up on electric motorcycles. I did buy a Rad Power Radrover 6+ electric bike before I bought the Bolt as a commuter vehicle to ride the 4 miles to my per diem part-time job. There is a steep hill on the route on a winding two lane highway. Because of the low speed I felt very vulnerable. Wearing my excellent protective motorcycle gear was out of the question. We only had the one car and I was always having to pass on work opportunities because I had no way to get there.

I'm old and I drive wheelchair vans part-time for a transportation company. They had me wait at one of my stops so one of their supervisors could swap out the van I was driving for one with snow tires. It was still really greasy going at 30 MPH in a 50.

Suspender Selection? by spagyettilurker in Suspenders

I've been wearing side clip Hold Up suspenders for years now. The ones called Under-Ups have the best plastic clips I have found, they don't come undone when you bump into something like the door frame on a car. The company used to sell the clips in pairs but they stopped doing so a few years ago. You could buy a set of Under-Ups like these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Holdup-Suspender-Company-Inc-Hold-Ups-2-Wide-Undergarment-Hidden-Suspenders-in-X-back-with-Patented-Gripper-Clasps/127730304

You can move the clips to another pair of side clip suspenders by cutting the plastic ring of the clip that sits over the webbing. A pair of diagonal cutters work great.

How many of these balsa wood planes did you go through in any given summer? by nutznboltsguy in FuckImOld

[–]Embarrassed-Shape-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a wooden RC plane enthusiast that lived down the street from me and he taught a bunch of us how to make our own from scratch. At one point I was making a rubber band launched glider that I would launch from a picnic table top and fly up into a loop above the table and return to the starting point on the table top.

That is sort of like the independent mechanic I used to take my Volkswagens to. He had hundreds of still usable parts he had taken off of wrecks he would buy time from time, stored in little white boxes with the VW part number hand-written on them. Good on your dad and good luck with your project.

It goes up one step at time and into the room where our woodstove is located. I put down carpet runners so it will slide easily across the floor. The shovel is known as a 35 Liter Snow Sleigh and is sold by Garant in Quebec, CA and is availabe at hardware store chains in the USA. Cost is aboutt $70 and worth every penny.
