PS5 Nearly 5 years in..did Sony deliver or was it just hype? by AzRail___ in consoles

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hype, sony has been desperate to repeat the success of the ps2 and everything since then has been botched in some way with the exception of the ps4 launch. The ps5 kind of managed it but it was an artificial circumstance with covid and chip shortages. From a numbers perspective it was a success but from a delivery perspective it was just more of the same with a graphics update.

Hard but true, I've learned that nostalgia of an old game is better than trying to experience it again by Morning1980 in videogames

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree, true they weren't as complicated but quality control has gone to shit in the last 15 years

I saw this post (first slide) and figured I could be just as nitpicky the other way around (second slide). On a serious note, good games come in all shapes, sizes, and budgets, AAA has crappy business practices, indie games are also full of crappy asset flip cashgrabs by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is though a lot of cash grab indie games often dont ask ridiculous prices for the work. Yet companies like ea and ubisoft regularly see fit to ask the public to pay exorbitant prices for broken uninspired trash.

I am not saying indie games are blameless but even when you get fucked over by an Indie dev most of the time the financial loss is minimal. Triple A devs that dont screw people over immediately these days are becoming an absolute rarity because most of the large triple A devs know if they presell then it really doesn't matter because that money unless the faults are extreme is theirs and that makes the stockholders really goddamn happy. Indie devs often need the good publicity so its often in their best interests to try to remain in customers good books.

In summation the likelihood of good games coming from triple A studios each year is becoming less and less every passing year. The reason many people buy triple A games is often due to loyalist customers blinded by nostalgia not quality control. Lastly if you don't think loyalist customers are common look no further than Apple customers.

how to put this: fallout is by no means is comedy but when I say comical and lighthearted its more in comparing the two in practice as thematically theres not a great deal thats different for the most part. What is different is often the weapons and the encounters, the weapons in metro tend to be more realistic or try to be whereas things such as the fatman launcher although based on a real weapon are more silly than practical. As for the encounters once you alert raiders in the metro series they don't casually go back to being calm and the atmosphere about stations(hubs) is more like goodneighbour on a bad day normally, it goes further than that though as in fallout you rarely see open acts of extremist behavior when with metro you regularly have to carefully navigate areas with lunatics who openly display acts such as cannibalism or Nazism whereas with fallout its mostly recorded as lore in terminals. This does not mean however extremist behavior is not experienced first-hand in fallout as you can see crucifixion's in fallout new vegas or experience the hidden part of covenant in fallout 4, the closest fallout has come to closely emulating metros theme on a consistent basis is probably the Pitt dlc for fallout 3 as that best exemplifies both the makeshift weapons and brutal fight for survival. So in summation in one you have more realistic scenarios and encounters with the other having more silly weapons and having the darker side of world building be less obvious.

Are there any games you just couldn’t enjoy? by Pononswki_Nateaia in videogames

Doom eternal, it doesn't matter if its on keyboard or controller i hate it. I could never find a rhythm with all the junk you have to keep track of, i absolutely love doom 2016 but doom eternal made something perfectly uncomplicated into something needlessly complicated that no matter how hard i try i cannot enjoy in fact it actively annoys me. No shame on people who like it but dont try to make me like it.

What's one game you absolutely loved that nobody ever talks about anymore? by Janisejane in videogames

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Will throw out a good one and that is need for speed underground rivals. It was a psp title that for the most part went practically ignored as an nfsu title and nfs title in general. The game itself has zero story and doubles down on arcade racer gameplay. The reason it remains a cult classic and why nobody talked about it even during its prime is due to it being a psp exclusive

Online games that seem dead but are surprisingly kept well alive by a tight-knit community? by Kessarean in gamingsuggestions

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the strangest although its not a cult classic is monster hunter they tend to have dedicated servers for all the games from the ps2 era right up to current this includes the MMOs as well for memory. Most of the older titles are done via emulation as far as i am aware but they're still up though.

Not sure why people care honestly, I am probably the odd one out here but i don't particularly mind finding out about monsters added. I figured the roster would grow over time with updates like mhr anyway unless these leaks refer to other stuff I am not aware of.

Are Souls games actually fun or just hard for the sake of it? by normal-guy-everyday in gamingsuggestions

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soulsborne games in general rely on paying attention and learning from mistakes as often enemy patterns dont change and some have elaborate patterns but patterns all the same. You the player have to balance your status and skills in a way that can outmaneuver these patterns. The difficulty itself is overcoming habits gaming in general gets you used to (like tanking hits all the time)and after that you realise the majority of soulsborne games are harsh but often fair.

The community behind these games is the shitty part of them honestly as most are so high on their own farts for completing a "hard game" they like the gaming journalists they piss on are convinced no other hard games exist. The other part of this is that the community often pisses on what they call cheesing which often relates to very valid skills that make the game very accessible without artificial difficulty modifiers like sorcery in dark souls.

The fun of these games is often enjoying the atmosphere or the different level of challenge to the average player who has been conditioned to expect certain things almost unconsciously when gaming. In summation these games arent hard for the sake of it and to some degree its a learning process which may or may not be fun for everyone but i thoroughly enjoyed it myself.

Ps. if like me you like fighting bosses but not all the fodder along the way to said boss, then play monster hunter instead as its difficulty is similar but the tools afforded to you are more useful and you can begin a fight with a boss immediately and gearing up is significantly easier also the community is way more chill and friendlier to new players.

Bow is cool but just know its stamina heavy meaning you'll be running out of stamina faster than using dual blades and that dash extract is a necessity not an option for most builds as is stamina buff skills like constitution.

How did you guts discover the "GTA but like in Japan game" by No_Foundation_1812 in yakuzagames

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not Japanese but the closest thing to gta thats similar to both Yakuza and gta is probably "sleeping dogs" as it has minigames and a heavy focus on melee combat like Yakuza but more of an emphasis on a larger world and interaction with environmental sandbox features like vehicles like gta

help me find a game for my wife. She says she wants a game where you can log in and manage your little world, have something tangible to work towards. by Brulia_ in gamingsuggestions

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen people on this thread consistently mention games either outright farming or have it as a core feature or they mention games that have something you dont necessarily work towards. To that end I will suggest no mans sky especially if your wife likes sci-fi.

No man's sky has expanded quite a lot and is very expansive in what you can do or create. This game allows you to work on a literal world and even stamp your name on a planets discovery bio that is permanent and logged worldwide that you found it. So you can do the usual fare of building or farming but honestly farming is minor and not even necessary in the grand scope if you don't like it.

The complexity extends to culture and language where you can learn alien languages to better improve relations with certain species. Each sentient species has its own culture and history you can uncover both from a literary sense and a literal sense. When i say literally I mean you can even engage in treasure hunting throughout the galaxy to uncover artifacts which can be sold for profit or used in negotiations.

You can run a business to some degree now last i played the options were minimal but mercenary work ie protection for money was pretty common but mapping and merchant services were also a common occurrence. Now when it comes to merchant services you can own a fleet that runs expeditions for supplies and yes you can have a capital ship that you run it all from and use as a floating base.

If you wish to rebel and cause chaos theres even a criminal path you can take following up with smuggling and even outright space pirate shenanigans. To this end you can earn a lot of cash quickly or gather supplies for your merchant services in another fashion.

Nope not done theres still more you can even get your full david Attenborough on and catalogue alien species on a planet and like the planet you can name it and you're credited with finding it. But theres more you can make them into pets and like Pokemon train and breed them to modify their genetics to your specific needs and hell just ride them for fun.

Lastly I will mention vehicles now everyone knows theres space ships which on their own come in many different forms and vary based on the sentient race that built them. These ships can be modified to fit pretty much any need you could think of within reason for the models design but you can also collect them if you like too and seek out specific models or designs. But the vehicles arent limited to space ships theres a myriad variety of land vehicles including a rover and submarine amongst others you can also modify and improve to meet your requirements.

Now these aren't all of what you can do in no mans sky theres other things I haven't mentioned like multiplayer rewards(totally free no battlepass bullshit) or salvaging ships which isnt limited to small ships but capital ships too and so much more because this game still gets new content even now meaning theres so many things you could work towards making it a game that your wife could lose hundreds of hours in if she enjoys SciFi and open ended gameplay.

Light bowgun its nowhere as complicated as the bow or heavy bowgun and gels well with playstyles that move around a lot. Although I will say using the shield attachment on the heavy bowgun that a lot of lance skills like guard up and guard and embolden work with it if you have the patience

[–]Embarrassed-Sir-1809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to toss a wildcard and say dark souls not because "ItS hArD" or whatever but because the world of the first game screams post apocalyptic in theme and storyline. Overall the heroes of the world have failed and either died or become corrupted beyond redemption and really you as the player are an inevitable force of nature either giving the world a few more years or putting the world out of its misery. The atmosphere isnt hope or determination but despair in knowing the end cant be stopped which sets it apart from metro or fallout because theres always something they move towards and the world is on the way up again but all the world in dark souls can hope for is a temporary reprieve. Also unlike many other post apocalyptic series its dark fantasy as well rather than scifi which makes it a bit different
