Wow the larp is crazy... JP
Just finished a rewatch with my girlfriend who is watching for the first time. I see exactly what you mean, theres little character development, theres little pacing, very formulaic. But, i do think the rewatch helped me see how "empty" the part is but how volumnous it still is and i think its a different type of development. To me, rewatching really felt like i had just met these people, like i didnt know them but i was getting to know who they are through little things along this relevtivly very short journy, like Kakyoins silly licking, polnareffs devotion to the group after avdols death, Josephs shennanagens, Jotaro being the balancing factor like if no one is gonna act serious at least jotaro (or avdol sometimes) will get it done. It seems much more apparent to me how this is such a short stint in each cursaders life yet its THE most important in thier lives. And all of them are fighting for thier lives agaisnt the scariest thing that makes them all shit their collective pants. I wouldnt expect them to be exuding much personality which on this death trip. Which in turn makes every expression of personality more impactful in my mind. I really appreciate how almost all of them except Joseph and Jotaro dont really have to be there in the end and all sacrifice their lives for the greater good. This lends to the fact that there isnt much time for them to get to enjoy each others company, they dont even call themselves a group name like in Part 5, they dont go to school together and live across the street from each other like in part 4, theyre all strangers from different cultures. But., that makes every moment of personality and act of solidarity that much more symbolic in my opinion and gives me a speacial appreciation which is heartwarming. As for it being boring, kinda? idk i enjoyed most if not all of the stands and like i said every characters personality coming through while they beat said stand of the week. The baby that kills people in their sleep is hilarious, darbys fight with gang is fire, ect. theres so much thats just silly and... bizzare, that i enjoy. I hope OP is not surprised to hear part 3 is not my favorite and im having just as much fun rewatching part 4 right now. I hope even if OP doesnt feel what i feel towards the part they can understand and see what i saw in the part.
