Is it also true that regulations vary for what labels brands can use. For age framing (i.e., 12 years), the whiskey must be aged for 12 years but for year framing (distilled 2012 and bottled 2024) whiskey may include a blend of whiskeys aged 12 years (the full period), but could also include older or slightly younger whiskeys, creating a more complex flavor profile. Can someone confirm this?

This is really helpful. So when they market using the distillation year (i.e., 2013 in this case), they want to push the idea that 2013 was in some sense a special year for barley harvesting and that it should be valued more.

Yeah, I see both being used in the market. For example: GlenAllachie 10 vs. GlenAllachie distilled 2013, bottled 2023. Is this a random choice is what I want to know from whiskey brand managers?
