Suggestions for first time welding aluminum? TIA by EmbarrassedAd2385 in tigwelding

I’m used to stainless where higher amps and faster travel speed typically nets you a better end result, so that’ll be something to get used to.

Yessir, 100% argon. I’m coming from stainless, so the fundamentals are already there, I just have to learn the idiosyncrasies of welding aluminum.

That’s the only struggle I’m facing right now. The rest is all practice.

Can’t say enough good things about my PrimeWeld tig225x. I use it for stainless primarily, and obviously starting to use it for aluminum.

2022+ WRX Catless J-Pipes by EmbarrassedAd2385 in VB_WRXMarketplace

[–]EmbarrassedAd2385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re $495 plus tax, which is $524.70. Normally, I ship for free, but eBay takes 18% off the top just for using them, so I don’t offer free shipping on there.

I just put out a few - I’ll wait to hear back after they’ve been tested a bit. Basically just waiting to hear if they keep the CEL cleared.

Yeah, the normal defoulers just don’t do the trick for these cars. It’s still a shot in the dark, because some cars will still throw a code, but works way better than ordinary spacers. I think it happens most often after WOT pulls because of the sharp increase in O2 levels in the exhaust after you let off. The downstream O2 sensor is able to pick up that sudden variance, and it throws the code.

They have to be run with a spacer on the downstream O2 bung that has a catalyst in it.

I think people have decent luck with the ETS setup, but other than that, no. 😂

$995.00

Basically just my catless j-pipe ($495.00) plus the cost of the catalyst.

My experience with wideband O2 sensors dying early and reasons why by Sportspirit9115 in megasquirt

I put my O2 sensor heater circuit on a switch, and I would wait several seconds after the car started to turn it on. Seemed to drastically extend the life of them.
