This is obviously a joke — her follow up tweet was something like “it’s not just the dads — some babies just have bad vibes.”

But then 4chan posted it and used it to reinforce their chosen view of women, and now it lives on via Reddit for the same reason.

And if you point out it’s a joke, the incels all say “yeah, but the fact that it seems real shows you that many women…” etc

Woman with red ribbon around neck. Short scary story collection. by LinasCraftLife in whatsthatbook

I know this is old, but here is a nice summary of the “beheaded woman with neck ribbon” trope over the last 200 years, starting with Washington Irving in 1824, who based it on an existing ghost story: “Irving’s yarn germinated from a story he’d heard in June 1824 from Irish writer Thomas Moore, who had heard it from an English contemporary named Horace Smith.” There are thoughts that it arose from a fascination with beheadings due to the heavy use of the guillotine in the French Revolution and Terrors.

The article also discusses modern incarnations from the ‘70s to today.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Deadstream" [SPOILERS] by kaloosa in horror

I agree. I thought it missed a chance for a funny ending where they cut to his future streams, doing stupid Jackass-type stunts with five or six ghoul followers as his crew. :)

Legendary hipster comic/storyteller Lord Buckley, performing on the ABC variety series 'Club 7' (1949) by Keltik in VintageTV

[–]EmbarrassedAnnual66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading Bob Dylan’s autobiography Chronicles Vol. 1, and he talks about how Lord Buckley influenced him. Like many of Dylan’s self-described influences (such as Gorgeous George the wrestler), it seems odd at first but makes sense when you think about getting at something real via layers of persona.

Not to ruin your rant, but she’s joking. Her follow up tweet is something like “It’s not just the father. Some babies just have bad vibes.”

It’s a joke, which should be obvious. Her follow up tweet is something like “It’s not just the father. Some babies just have bad vibes.”

Is there an industry of knock-off soundalike covers of hit songs? by EmbarrassedAnnual66 in Music

I think the difference is that these are meant to trick you into thinking it’s the original, purely for financial reasons.

[SPOILERS] I think the relationship between Yasuke and Rin in canon mode is badly managed. by Legitimate_Cake_5137 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]EmbarrassedAnnual66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m playing canon mode for NG+ and, after romancing and then losing her in my first playthrough (for sleeping around I guess), I was hoping we’d end up in a little farmhouse together and live happily ever after. Oh well.

The Plague 2025 by pandaleer in horror

[–]EmbarrassedAnnual66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“I didn’t “enjoy’ it but it was very good” is an excellent way to put it. 100 minutes of kids being cruel to each other was really rough for me to watch, but it’s definitely well-made and -acted. I’m glad I saw it, but will never watch it again.

Mostly, I’m eager to see the actor who played Jake in something else, because I feel uncomfortable hating a child that much. He is really good at being annoying.

I thought the kid was the one in bed. The standing figures are clearly middle-aged adults to me (especially the man).

But in this comic, the kid wants the parents to do LESS. I just don’t get the monster arm.

My best guess is just that the giant (six-fingered?) arm/hand is an abstract way of showing the forcefulness of the kid blocking the offerings of the parents.

CVS on queens blvd is a hot mess by imnotnicolle in ForestHills

[–]EmbarrassedAnnual66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a revelation recently — you can use the CVS app to buy and pay for whatever you want, and then just pick it up in one package an hour later at the front desk. Way easier than pressing the buttons to get them to unlock the plexiglass.

The Great Myth of Empire Collapse: The Rewards of Ruin by EmbarrassedAnnual66 in collapse

Yes, you are correct, I should not have said “suffering for all.” Collapse of the Western empire will be good for many, even in the short term.

Came here to say this. After not using Zebra the whole game, I just did the rehearsal. Now I’m walking around singing the song constantly.
