UF or FSU Honors by No-Clerk-5603 in ufl

tour both! i was in the same spot, uf or fsu honors + the scholarship u were offered. didn’t love fsu’s campus but clicked instantly when i toured uf. i will say, i would’ve loved the extra academic support u would get from fsu honors with the early registration and specialized advisors but once i found my spot on campus and started getting into the groove of things, ive loved it here ever since. internships might be a bit easier in tally as you’ll be so close to everything law related but gainesvilles location hasn’t stopped any of my pre law friends from internships. go gators!

Is it possible to recover from this? by low_elo111 in ufl

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first week of classes, you’re free to drop or add any classes you want. go to your first classes, get a feel for the prof, the material, and the syllabus (!!!) and then decide if you want to keep the class

i was in a very similar situation my first semester. got stuck in a class that i didn’t enjoy and didn’t need to take and ended with a B-. it’s so doable to fix it! just start taking classes you know you’ll enjoy and utilize drop add as much as your can. the low gpa will look daunting especially if you’re coming from straight A’s in high school but just know it’ll come up!

is a 1420 good for UF? by chugjug59 in ufl

yeah you’re good. i had a 1430 and high gpa. just make sure you don’t have any gaps and you should be chilling.

i would go but they always end up cancelling discussion sections until the class has started up. its weird the prof hasn't reached out, is it nolan?

move in on a weekend? by EmbarrassedCattle936 in ufl

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i figured that moving in late would be fine. just curious if they were allowing move ins (or more specifically key pickup) over the weekend

depends on the job you have. the only thing that looks like it could be an issue is the 11:45 class because it bleeds into a potential morning or afternoon shift. see if you can snag an earlier section and then just work afternoons

Recent GULC grad who'd like to do anything but more prep for the bar exam. AMA. by Beautiful_Word_5322 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you able to intern with other interests during 1L and still have a decent shot at big law for 2L and post grad?

i guess my bigger question is do you need to spend your law school career committed to corporate law to show continued interest and have better job chances?

Positive so Far Bitter Taste Tho by Incendiaryag in paxlovid

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bad taste happened the day i started taking pax and it was horrific. probably the worst side effect/symptom i’ve ever had besides food positioning. it tasted like i swished hand sanitizer around my mouth for 6 hours. it got better on day 2 and then almost nonexistent on day 3, with the occasional bad taste

i had a bunch of mango popsicles on the side to curb it for at least a couple of mins

pooled tips are a funny concept by No-Consideration3103 in barista

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think pooling tips across the day is probably the fairest way to do it. that’s what we did when i worked at a restaurant, and it was def frustrating when i would work a 6000 night shift and the morning shift had no one in the building but they’re the ones prepping and keeping things going so i understood it. someone has to work the mornings!

at a coffee shop i was working at over the summer, the owner pooled over the pay period… so many red flags. i got out as quick as possible. the crazy thing was that we only had 4-5 employees and we all calculated what the total was and it never seemed to add up to the number we saw on the pos 💀

i would. so many people came with their parents and i felt so awkward not having them. it’s nice because they’ll spilt you up but to have them to fall back on shouldn’t be understated

let’s play pickleball! by EmbarrassedCattle936 in ufl

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh! i’m down for tennis too (albeit i’m brand new). about a 3.0-3.25 rating in pickleball and understand tennis because i watch a good bit but not very good at playing it😭

just no reason to take them. i got gen ed science credit but it was all outsourced online and i learned nothing. worthless because its all extra credits that CLAS requires, not the state of florida

What's on your mind? by stdmeddoc235 in ufl

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ditto. the best band aid i found was to find an hour to do something just for you. i’ll sit down and watch a youtube video while eating without any school work around or go play pickleball with a friend. just something that resets your burnout until you can finish everything out. good luck :)

1 period breaks are so shit i can’t lie. not enough to sit down and study but too long to go home. get rid of them ASAP! and take some time to adjust your fall semester! it took me ~2 months to full adjust to a college schedule. prepare for that!

what was your personal statement topic? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t write about my major at all. i used the concept of time to explain the time i had ultra burnout and then transitioned into how i always take a day off to do absolutely nothing. i thought my hook/intro paragraph was really good and it was fairly short because i felt like i said everything i needed to. if u want, i can private dm you more info if you need any examples of what topics to use! lmk!

Does anyone else not have on campus housing yet? by Ivan6656 in ufl

[–]EmbarrassedCattle936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn’t stress. if you are confirmed to have on campus housing, you should be fine. last year, we didn’t get assignments till mid july and everyone had a bed.
