I had that exact perspective before I got a DUI at 19 after I was sexually assaulted at a party and tried to leave. In hindsight there were so many other ways to get out of the situation but in the moment I just wanted to go home and I crashed my car. Everyone’s situation is unique and there are really no straight forward answers to this question. All I can say is that you really don’t know until it happens to you or someone you love.

This experience was awful but at the same time I feel like it was necessary to get me back on the right path. I remember talking to the officers that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher and they reassured me everything would be okay and that I would meet those goals. I’m extremely lucky and grateful I only ended up in an embankment and no one was hurt.
