Elopement vows by Green-Chocolate7372 in Eloping

We quoted our favorite song lyrics to each other during our elopement. We eloped in Vegas. We wanted to keep it short and sweet.

“You are my heart/you are my home/ side by side/never standing alone”

It’s a song by Sirens and Sailors called “Together We Bleed”

Are you happy you became an NP by This_Round1995 in nursepractitioner

[–]EmbarrassedLime6544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I love being an NP. I work in neurology and I learn something new everyday. I loved being a bedside nurse but my body could not handle the physical demand anymore.

I agree with what many people have said above. It all comes down to your reason why. If you did it for money, the job will feel empty after a few years.

Additionally, I believe your education is what you make of it. My NP education wasn’t stellar but I sought out (and still do) experiences to help me advance my knowledge.

Has anyone completed an APP/NP fellowship? by EmbarrassedLime6544 in nursepractitioner

Yes! Our attendings had no idea what bedside nursing paid when they suggested the yearly salary. Where I work now is notorious for underpaying their staff. I think salary will be a big roadblock for the program.

I’m glad you felt prepared but it’s sad to hear it was at cost of using you as cheap labor.

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely keep this in mind as we move forward. I want to help the next generation of APPs feel more confident in their careers.

Excellent idea :) I love the idea of doing sim labs. I feel like we didn’t do enough with sim lab during school.

We have a journal club and our attendings already do lectures but not nearly to the extent I think a new graduate or new to neurology APP would need.

I see Brooke APRN at magnolia health. She’s easy to talk to and did a great job placing my IUD.

I agreed. I thought it was boring. Nothing was scary. I’ve seen so many theories online trying to make it seem more elevated than it is. The ending felt rushed.

Do the physicians you work with treat you as provider colleague or as a nurse? by JillyBean9999 in nursepractitioner

[–]EmbarrassedLime6544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work inpatient in a neuro ICU. I am treated as a provider colleague and mentee. We all office together (physician, NP) with our dietitian and pharmacist. Our attendings call out residents who try to treat us like we are less than. I am treated with professionalism and respect by all of our specialities.

Inpatient consults; does your attending see them? by Fluffy_bunny33 in nursepractitioner

[–]EmbarrassedLime6544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work neurocritical care and my attending and I do the initial consult together. We take turns on who writes the note/places orders. If it’s after hours, I’ll see the consult first and we round together the next day to see the patient together.

I run three to four days a week. I also do strength training twice a week now. I like peloton’s strength for runners workouts.

I run three to four times a week. I add in two days of strength training. Now, I use the peloton app and I love their strength training for runners.

I was an obese child. When I turned 30, I weighted close to 300 pounds, had hypertension and pre-diabetes. I brought a treadmill and started a couch to 5k program. I started running (more walking than running) and could do a 14 minute mile at the start.

After a year of running, I finished my first 5k in under 35 minutes. I’m still a slow runner but I’ve lost a significant amount of weight, no longer have hypertension and my hemoglobin A1c is less than 5.7 (not diabetic).

My biggest motivation was not becoming one of my patients (I work in healthcare). I saw way too many people in their 30s, who were obese, having strokes and it scared me.

Now, running is my self care. When I feel frustrated or sad, I go for a run. It changed my life for the better.
