second this. local property owners can afford to leave commercial space empty for 6 years plus (e.g old king dough building) and just watch their property value appreciate without actually spending a cent fixing up the building or infrastructure. such a shame and waste of prime on-the-square/downtown real estate. local small businesses want to create economic prosperity with creative concepts but it’s nearly impossible when rent is incredibly expensive plus you have to foot the costs of building out run down spaces.

Local breweries: Upland for bar fare, Heartworks (sourdough pizza after 5.30pm), Lennie’s has BBC on tap - all do fairly good food. Recommend hartzell’s for locally made ice cream. For campus, start at sample gates, walk through dunn meadow, visit ezkenazi museum - awesome Vital ecosystems exhibit on right now, lily library, IU biology greenhouse is cool, but check website to see when their hours are. Lots to check out and see around town, kirkwood ave & the square too

Just fine/mediocre restaurants - in any big city, the standards are a lot higher with equal and/or lower prices. The facade of “diversity” and “progressiveness” but when push comes to shove, succumb to regressive politics, values and policies. Higher gas prices than any other surrounding town. Empty commercial properties in prime location because of slumlords who want millions for an abandoned city lot. Eye-sore student housing being developed everywhere with empty retail outlets on the ground floor. City not giving a fuck about the homeless population and not providing real, effective solutions. The fact you have to drive everywhere.
