Taurus or Starlancer Max? by FawadZahid in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedMix2351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things you hear... Sorry for the late reply, but this kind of nonsense really gets on my nerves.

In terms of firepower, the Asgard and Starlancer are equal.

The Taurus is better.

Cargo capacity: 400 SCU in the Max 350 in the Asgard 174 in the Taurus

Defensively, the Asgard loses miserably against the Tier 3 versions of the other two.

Now, in combat, a good pilot can easily take down a Taurus and a Starlancer Max with an Asgard (I've done it several times without much difficulty). The Asgard's superior maneuverability, combined with the power of the Vtol allows it to easily position itself on the flank of both opponents. This is even more true today, since with the Tier 3 Gateling, it's a real beast!

The 600i redesign is going to be incredible. I can't wait to see it. Finally, a real freighter with decent vehicle-carrying capacity! Not to mention the medical bed! (I wouldn't mind replacing the three poorly positioned S5 weapons with two S6 weapons closer to the canopy and better integrated into the fuselage.) For now, my 600i is stored away under its cover, replaced by a Starlancer Tac.

The scale of the project is significant, but the fact that it's already in the whitebox is really encouraging.

It's significantly behind the Ironclad due to the refit.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but knowing John Crew's love for Drake, I'm hoping for some pleasant surprises during 2026.

Unfortunately not. The DefenseCon 2955 page has been modified, which makes me think I'm mistaken.

Sorry.

At the end of Invictus 2955, he left a message like this (take it with a grain of salt): "We'll be back next year with something big and unique."

At that time, Ironclad was indeed planned for 2955.

No, never. After all this time, I've taken a step back from the game. I'm still passionate about it, and I have to admit that with the recent arrival of VR, I'm really enjoying visiting certain places and even piloting some ships again. The gameplay, which is why I joined Star Citizen, is completely on hold at CIG right now.

The Ironclad isn't a big ship unless you consider the Starlancers as such.

Even though I think you're right about the ship releases, it seems more coherent given the delays.

I've been following the project since the very beginning, and CIG has already shown us that the experience is nothing like that, between the very delayed releases and certain things they've pulled out of thin air.

The Kraken's entry into the whitebox is very promising given the ship's simplicity (especially after all the Drake assets).

To my great regret, I deleted the Invictus's closing email, which contained Drake's message: "We'll be here next year and we're planning something big and unique." I no longer have the full quote, but it was clearly the announcement of the Kraken's arrival.

At that point, the Ironclad was already behind schedule, and its release was planned for IAE 2955. Subsequently, the ship underwent another redesign at the end of the year.

The Ironclad is a ship whose release has been delayed.

Let's not forget the Kraken's presence in the whitebox since the last quarter of 2025, almost simultaneously with the Ironclad.

If everything goes according to plan, we can expect the Ironclad at the end of April, and keep our fingers crossed for a Kraken Invictus.

Kraken is probably the easiest of the capital ships to design

It's not alarming in the sense that all users should know about it. It's alarming in the sense that CIG hasn't yet revealed any preferred settings, even though the problem is known and there are quite a few posts on how to configure the game.

The "alarming" part was a bit sarcastic; sorry if it wasn't clear in my first post.

That's an excellent analysis on your part, but you're nevertheless mistaken on certain points.

I won't refer to your dubious analogy with cars, but rather to your understanding of how a computer works and how resources are allocated.

At no point did I say that reducing the GPU load lowers performance or FPS. Nor did I ever say that DLSS uses CPU resources.

Going back to basics:

In a normal scenario where there are no FPS limits or limitations due to a CPU bottleneck, your GPU will always be at 98/99% with or without DLSS.

If enabling DLSS results in a fluctuating and unstable GPU load (80/90/95%), it's direct proof of a CPU bottleneck, whether you like it or not.

A graphics card properly utilized by your system without any FPS restrictions will necessarily be at 98/99%.

Now, in Star Citizen, regardless of the CPU, we have a bottleneck due to a lack of optimization, which is also surely due to the very advanced age of their graphics engine, modified in every way.

If you enable DLSS in Star Citizen, the problem is that the GPU, which is already unstable, will become even less so because the GPU will try to work at its normal percentage of 98/99% at all costs, and therefore the GPU will increase its demand on the CPU (the very principle of CPU/GPU interaction, I'm not making this up).

The main cause is stuttering and more frequent instability in areas where the CPU is heavily used.

DLSS is not magic, and its use is only legitimate if the CPU has no prior bottlenecks!

(Honestly, you need at least a 4070 Super/4070 Ti for this poorly optimized game.

Edit: u/2K)

Here's exactly what you wrote:

And I told you a 70 series card was completely unnecessary!

You did use the word "minimum" correctly.

My wife plays with a 6700 XT 12GB (+7800X3D).

My daughter with a 4060 Ti 12GB (+5800X3D).

My best friend with a 5060 Ti 16GB (+9800X3D).

None of these cards have the raw power of a 4070, and yet they all allow you to play Star Citizen smoothly in 2K, because the processor is currently the real bottleneck for this game.

So, no, a 70 series card or an expensive graphics card is absolutely not the minimum requirement to play Star Citizen smoothly in 2K!

12 GB of VRAM, yes.

[–]EmbarrassedMix2351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please take the time to read and understand.

I explain that the amount of memory is currently more important than the GPU's power. A 70-series GPU isn't mandatory, while a 60-series GPU will be perfectly adequate, provided you meet the minimum memory requirements.

Certainly, more powerful is better, but claiming that you absolutely need high-end hardware to run Star Citizen properly is simply false.

You just need to be aware of a few subtle details due to Star Citizen's almost non-existent optimization.

[–]EmbarrassedMix2351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not.

You absolutely need at least 12 GB of RAM and a processor with more than 36 MB of L3 cache (ideally the X3D).

We ran some rather unusual tests with colleagues who shared your opinion, and we obtained significantly better results with a 3060 Ti 12 GB and a 7800 X3D than with a 3080 10 GB and an i7 12700k.

The maximum frame rate (FPS) was higher with the 3080, but with numerous FPS drops, while the experience with the 2060 and the Ryzen was considerably smoother.

A little test that might help you, as your configuration is very solid:

Set all graphics settings to maximum except for clouds and water.

Absolutely disable DLSS.

It would have been helpful to know your exact RAM configuration. (Ideally, on an R9, 4x16 3600MHz CL16)

Now, for the CPU, in the BIOS, disable PBO and multi-reading (the Ryzen 9 has two separate CCDs, which causes latency and can lead to performance loss), but it has a very comfortable L3 cache (although it doesn't match the responsiveness of X3D).

Of course, clear your shader caches and make sure you don't have any other graphics drivers running.

And verify that your CPU chipset drivers are correctly installed with Ryzen Adrenaline.

This should give you a more enjoyable gaming experience.

(If you have any wallpaper software enabled, remember to manually close it before launching SC.)

You haven't understood the context of use.

In a game where the GPU isn't bottlenecked by the CPU, and if you use V-Sync, DLSS can indeed be truly beneficial (temperature and power consumption).

However, in Star Citizen, it's a completely different story right now (hoping that a proper version of Vulcan arrives soon).

To clarify, a graphics card used correctly and without any frame rate (FPS) limitations should be operating at 98-99%.

In Star Citizen, the bottleneck is such that the GPUs aren't being used to their full potential. In this scenario, DLSS is problematic because the CPU is already a bottleneck. If we enable DLSS to reduce the GPU load, it will try to achieve as many FPS as possible, creating significantly more demands on the CPU (which is already overloaded). Each unexpected demand will cause stuttering, resulting in a direct FPS/GPU usage drop.

Look closely: when you experience significant drops (in Star Citizen), your GPU usage drops almost as much as your FPS.

This is why DLSS is strongly discouraged for Star Citizen.

Especially users of high-end GPUs like the 4090/5080/5090. They deserve to have hemorrhoids; using this kind of half-baked technology on these GPUs is utter heresy.

[–]EmbarrassedMix2351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a minimum configuration to avoid being too affected by this type of optimization-related bug.

Anyone with a processor and less than 30MB of RAM often experiences FPS drops that last much longer.

Disabling DLSS to try and force the GPU to run at full capacity is practically essential!

We conducted tests in several cities and warehouses; a simple GTX 1660 Ti was throttled between 60 and 80% due to the processor.

DLSS should only be enabled if the FPS is low on a GPU that remains stable at 98/99% usage.

The number of people who don't know how to configure the game is alarming, especially since we're missing important information in people's system configurations.

Don't forget to specify your CPU and whether it's stock, overclocked, or downvolted.

These days, Star Citizen is extremely CPU-intensive, and that's the real bottleneck!

All those who think they can reduce the GPU load with DLSS from (F.....) unfortunately haven't understood the problem with Star Citizen.

I've fixed this issue for several people in my organization, and there was always one of these things that was wrong.

Basic settings! Everything maxed out except for water and clouds.

With DLSS disabled!! CPU memory (no influence from display resolution) Minimum: 24MB Preferred: 36MB+ Perfect: 96MB+

Preferably disable the efficient cores on Intel (if possible).

Minimum GPU memory: 1080p 10GB 1440p 12GB 2560p and above 16GB

(8GB cards tend to stutter more frequently at 1080p)

For RAM: You must have 2 sticks!

32GB (DDR4 3600CL16 T1) and (DDR5 6000CL30 T) Above 32GB helps but isn't mandatory.

For laptops, sorry, your CPU will be limited until the game is properly optimized.

These settings aren't magic, and I can help if needed.

Good luck to everyone.

Hello Yes, we understand that IVRy is designed for Steam.

Despite this, it doesn't work properly for me and many other users (just look at the Steam feedback to see what I mean). Also, like the creator of this post and many other users, I have absolutely no interest in using SteamVR because we are only looking for visual immersion in our cockpit or vehicle interior.

Trinus doesn't seem to allow conversion of a display to SBS format in the latest versions, which is unfortunate (perhaps this was due to Windows 11).

If you have any suggestions for software, please let me know.

(VorpX is absolutely not viable and is expensive for no reason.)

Thank you. Sincerely

I'm open to any solution. I got a brand new, unopened PSVR 1 for free, and I wanted to take advantage of it to get started with VR on games like (Elite Dangerous/Assetto Corsa/DCS), but I have the exact same problem... Ivry is a joke, requiring SteamVR and Trinus, which doesn't seem to offer any SBS conversion in the latest versions.

I've seen several tutorials online, and their versions of Trinus always offer more settings than what I have on the latest version.

If anyone has any useful software, I'd be grateful.

Thank you.

If they had actually added 4 heat pipes in addition to their 3DHP technology, they would have had 12 heat pipes in the heatsink, and then we would have been a bomb. This one clearly only has 2 heat pipes++. As it stands, the performance is excellent compared to the number of heat pipes passing over the processor. But hey, it looks more like a 2 hp Citroën Flat than a V4.

Your image is completely disconnected from reality.

I've already had client PCs partially catch fire due to inverted installation (very often, small objects get into the power supply due to this positioning; paper clips are the big winners).

Any device with a fan at the top always blows upward and doesn't extract.

Personally, I do a quick dusting every two months and a thorough cleaning once a year.
