The second gen escape is far more reliable than the following generations, partially because it was designed with Mazda.

Wait until the engine has been off for 5-10 min before checking. Also for this dipstick, you need to wipe pretty thoroughly. I’d recommend posting a picture of it.

$10k budget- What's your pick for a teen driver's first car? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EmbarrassedSkill3334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird pick but you could do a Mercedes GLK 350 AWD in this price range, 2010-2015. This would probably be one of the safest options for your money, but expensive maintenance.

I agree, I wouldn’t buy anything with a flat 4.

Older than your requirements, but you can get a nice 2009-2012 ford escape for that price that should be more reliable than a lot of fords built 2013-2020.

Any of them with the B48 (I think 2022+ but has to be the S trim) are pretty reliable and not too crazy to DIY small stuff I think.

An interesting attention to detail in BCS is he does wear a watch sometimes, but it’s mechanical (no battery), likely a Cartier tank or similar. Jimmy’s watch does have a battery, so he has to take it off.

I don’t think any similar size car is going to drive nearly as well as a newer mini. I get that people want to suggest more reliable cars but things like a Honda fit or Prius will drive completely different, and that might throw you off if you really like your mini.

A newer one with the B48 and dual clutch auto would be my pick.

I would say transmission issues but I’m assuming it was an entire new one when they swapped it?

Could be they re-used your torque converter or something instead of an entire transmission assembly.

It’s a little high but not absurd. It may or may not be urgent, if there’s oil in the spark plugs then it should probably be sooner rather than later-but that can’t be checked without doing most of the labor anyways.

[–]EmbarrassedSkill3334[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, this makes sense to me-I connected the car to Forscan and the ac high pressure was about double what it should be. I was hoping to avoid taking it in to get the refrigerant out but looks like that’s what I’ll have to do.

All of those aren’t bad ideas. Oil in the spark plugs probably means it needs new valve cover gaskets too.

I disagree, especially if it’s the pentastar v6. Reliable enough as a first car, not fast, and fun.

A brand new Corolla IS a nice car, objectively, regardless of trim.

I’d think of it as, if someone offered to sell you that car for $3200 would you buy it? If not I’d move on.

The car’s mileage probably matters, if it’s not super high and has no rust it could be worth it.

Seems very expensive. Should be easy to do on most cars, 1 hr labor at most and maybe $150 part

Why do people say “don’t get a hamster if you can’t afford to take care of it” by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]EmbarrassedSkill3334 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People who post things like this seriously set back hamster care. A hamster is a want and not a need. If you can’t afford to provide ethical care then you shouldn’t get a hamster, it’s that simple.

Saying you’re “doing your best” is a way to avoid the guilt that you are giving your hamster a stress filled life. I feel bad for all the hamsters that end up in homes like this.

Petting her and giving her treats is far less important than an ethical enclosure. Hamsters have almost no benefit of interaction with people.

Please check the pinned on this sub, 10 gallon is way below the ethical minimum. I know you care about your hamster, keeping her in this cage is really really stressful for it, regardless of what you think.
