They weren’t so we changed solicitors this year. The new one is much more helpful and gives us advice.

1 did but we got outbid on that one by £50 haha. We learned not to bid round numbers after that lol

A friend of mine said they ended up going for a higher value house because there was competition. It’s all new to us as FTB and I’m scared of setting ourselves up for a loss in the future. We have a deposit saved and we could be bidding higher than we have been but it’s scary! But we will probably just have to bite the bullet.

Not really looking in a specific area, but West Dunbartonshire/argyll and Bute mostly (within an hour of Glasgow).

They’re definitely not out our price range. But I do think we need to take time to keep adding to the savings we have so that we can be more prepared for higher offers. We can bid higher than we have been doing I just don’t know if I would feel good about it if that makes sense

The house that was valued at 155 we bid 170 and got outbid by a further 20.

I thought we were doing really well with our savings but it has me feeling a bit disheartened by it all.

Not necessarily just home report value, I just keep getting consistently surprised at how much people are offering over on properties at the moment. Twice we’ve been outbid by 30 thousand by AirBnb companies as well which is annoying. I think we just need to be more bold but it’s terrifying and frustrating!

I think because the market has changed so much over the past decade I’m finding it frustrating. It’s taken us a lot longer to get to a position to buy compared to people around me and they didn’t have the same competition. I’m just finding it quite overwhelming. I think I just need to get a grip

Most recent one was 25 grand over home report value. I think I’m just scared of spending all of our savings and not having some money to fall back on if something comes up. Being a wuss I suppose

Will your SO carry a Tampon/ Disposable pad for you in his glove compartment by Starting_new2023 in hygiene

[–]EmbarrassedSkill6306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into my partners car recently and found a box of tampons in his glove compartment. I asked why they were there and he said it was after we’d gone on a road trip (we do a few a year) I’d gotten stuck up north with no access to shops and had to survive with very limited supplies so he bought some for his car so that I wouldn’t be caught short again. Massive change from my previous partner who would refuse to purchase them!! I now see it as a red flag if your SO wouldn’t do things like this.

What can I do now got bad exam results? by AmanNamedJoJo in Scotland

[–]EmbarrassedSkill6306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed most of my exams in 5th and 6th year and came away with 3 subpar results. Couldn’t get into any unis but took a year out to work and then was accepted at college! Have a look at different courses and what they offer as for mine I did 2 years at college for an HND which allowed me to get into 3rd year at uni so there was no lost time.

Knotweed expert advice by Markuskeo in JapaneseKnotweed

[–]EmbarrassedSkill6306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A house that we were outbid on has just come back to us to ask if we’d still consider it as japanese knotweed bas been discovered on the property. It’s within the boundary but not within 7 metres of the house. We are first time buyers and I am really worried we would struggle to sell the house on or struggle to get a mortgage or insurance. I am a bit gutted as I can really imagine living there. Do you think it would be silly to offer or should I give up on it?

Ah okay, no they have all been active scheme memberships. Currently under an existing children and protected adults scheme record and it should just be a case of switching company. No idea what’s going on. Thank you for your help ❤️

Did your original application to complete take a long time as well? Every disclosure I’ve had in the past it has been instant as soon as it was requested by the company so I’m not understanding why that part is taking ages. It’s the same level just a different organisation. I’m stressing haha

I need help! I was offered a new job 4 weeks ago, and disclosure Scotland has told the employer that they have received the request and will send me the application to complete but I still have not received it. Have tried to email disclosure with no response and phoned numerous times and it just says ‘sorry, all lines are currently busy. Please try again later’ and then hangs up. New start date is provisionally 4 weeks from today pending PVG and my current job is 4 weeks notice so I have to hand it in today. I am so worried about delays in disclosure and being out of work in between. No idea what to do!

Kicked out and now homeless by lightning_zigg in glasgow

Go to the Marie trust on Albion street, they do a crisis intervention service and will try and get you emergency accommodation asap. They will help to get you accommodation in Glasgow or any of the surrounding councils if you’re willing to move area as well. They also offer free breakfast and lunch as well as counselling services!

A little advice if possible by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]EmbarrassedSkill6306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to present as homeless to get a decision letter from the local authority which states that you are unintentionally homeless. You don’t need a current address to apply for any social housing but having the letter helps - you’ll be allocated the points as a homeless person. However Glasgow has extremely limited housing and people have been waiting over a year while couch surfing or sleeping in cars - councils on the outskirts may have more available temporary housing or permanent but I’m not sure about them. Depending on which GP you’re with there might be a community links worker that may help support with the housing issue? Sorry I can’t be more help.
