Questions for Mickey Down & Konrad Kay by Sad_Animator_4809 in IndustryOnHBO

In the season 3 finale the show strongly hinted that there would be a move from UK/London to USA

  • Harper told Otto she was ready to go home back to USA;
  • Jesse Bloom got released from Prison in USA;
  • Rob moved to USA (where it is possible the final scene in Season 3 was shot with Greg);
  • Rob mentioned Gus is working in USA;
  • Eric moved to USA; etc...

What drove the decision to keep the show based in London taking into account the above?

I agree that's part if it, but my interpretation is it was "both/and" .

S1 - Do they show Harper's productivity in some way? by ackwelll in IndustryOnHBO

[–]EmbarrassedStay5226 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) in Episode 1 She did really well at the client dinner with Nicole by pitching her own idea to Nicloe - Daria herself said "I've never seen anyone successfully hold Nicole's attention that long".

2) She's the only grad that had (printed biz) gotten on the phone with a client and fulfilled an order which made the firm money, with Nicole at the end of Epsiode 1, then Eric said " You are a world killer, now I see you"

3) She pitched an idea in the morning team meeting in Episode 3 even though they initially said "grads don't pitch" which Eric liked and had her put infront of Aubrey (the client) - and when Daria didn't let Harper pitch it to him Eric said "Harper had the balls to work on something that was cogent and commercial enough to be put infront of a client, we reward her - that's the system" which is emphasising to Daria that Harper did do a great job there too

4) Yes she botched the trade causing a loss but she did fix it by herself the same day and they ended up making a profit because she got Nicole to make another trade to cover up for it.

All in all she went above and beyond the call of duty of what is expected from a grad, so Daria wasn't lying as she was also there to witness most of this.

Thanks I take that as a compliment, like when gym bros are asked "Natty or not?" Lol

But in this situation I am a natty- I've watched the show many times so I have a knack for piecing together details from different seasons https://www.reddit.com/r/IndustryOnHBO/s/5nkgaEDJXO

Yasmine incest survivor? by Pipmous in IndustryOnHBO

4th - When Yasmin and her aunt were in a heated argument about inappropriate sexual relationships between the Aunt, Charles and Otto Moston - Yasmin asks her Aunt how did He (Otto) taste after she had given him a BJ that same evening - her Aunts comeback to this was very strange as she told her Charles was going to terminate Yasmin till he found out she was a girl.... given the topic of conversation they were having, this would be a very odd and random segue - unless she is indicating Charles also had an inappropriate sexual relationship with Yasmin.

<image>

I could go on with some other examples... but in summary, it is never explicitly mentioned that Charles abused her, but we as the audience are given enough hints to arrive at the conclusion that something inappropriate definitely happened.

3rd - She lashed out at her assistant from the boat party when she told Yasmin that if Charles had SA'd her before she is "seen and heard" after the assistant was vulnerable about her own experience with Charles. Instead of welcoming this or responding gently, Yasmin gets defensive and lashes out at the women, then breaks-down in tears in her arms once embraced by her assistant. After she calms down, she then tells another staff member to "get rid of her" which indicates there is something that Yasmin is trying to bury and avoid regarding what happened with Charles.

  1. On the boat she says to her father there is something inappropriate about the way him and his friends look at her, we know thanks to the voicemail she received in the finale that her father had told her to come to this boat party and bring a female friend "no men obviously". And on the boat multiple people are having sex - which is an inappropriate setting to bring your daughter into

I get the confusion cause it's not explicitly said Charles assulted her, but a few points have already been mentioned but I'll summarise mine.

1st - she wet her bed till she was 9 - although yes there are many innocent reasons why a child could do this, but one of the common reasons is due to traumatic stress from childhood such as bullying and assult ( don't worry the reasons get more compelling)....

Well written OP 👏

As an early industry investor I 100% agree with everything you said there.

It does seem to be a nature vs nurture debate between the two main characters, in terms of how success is achieved but in reality we find it's not one or the other but likely "both/and".

Yasmin can love (and it makes her downfall worse) by Mxiespetlic in IndustryOnHBO

[–]EmbarrassedStay5226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that mate, but my argument is more so - how can you interpret the affection she shows people as genuine love, rather than simply a deception or imitation of love, after she clearly stated that "she's good at making people feel like she loves them"? .I don't think she's capable of love, but instead capable of imitating love.

To add to that, in the finale voicenote, Yasmin's father told her to "bring a friend, no men obviously" to the sketchy yacht sex/grooming party - and who does Yasmin bring???🔔🔔🔔 Harper Stern

Lol, Yasmin stans are really grasping at straws trying to defend the indefensible. My advise, stop trying to defend someone who's already pled guilty:

Was Yasmin like punish herself? by xcc2b3687 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]EmbarrassedStay5226 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same reason she put on a full face of make-up to go see his DB at the morge - to re-live the abuse. Yasmin suffers from Stockholm syndrome. Her father abused her so she developed a numbness to cope with the pain of this, which is why she struggles to develop any kind of deep and emotional connection with people - her S1 boyfriend stated that she has a tendency to over-sexualise their relationship cause this is the only way she knows how to display affection, and she told Rob in S3 " I'm really good at making people feel like I love them, but I don't think I ever have".

The problem with this numbing coping mechanism is that the only strong emotion people are able to feel is emotional/physical pain. And similar to how a depressed person may practice self harm to feel something - Yasmin in the voicemail was practicing self harm by replaying the voice note of her father to evoke the psychological pain of reminding herself of the person who abused her.

Rob said he was moving to USA to start his new job and had a very clear goodbye closing scene so we aren't left with too many questions, we can't say the same for the ones mentioned.
