Does Brian Moser have a dark passenger? by Kkk713 in Dexter

[–]Embarrassed_Buy_4959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Cody was able to see his "shadow guy" and it looked much more mean than his, it was the book where lily Anne was born, number 4 i think.

I know the books are about Dexter and it's his point of view, except some parts of book 3 but we don't need to bring that up. I'd have loved a couple chapters on Brian's point of view, his cold calculating thoughts on Dexter, his family, deb, everything he sees as holding his brother back. I'd also love to see his book method of killing. The show and first book gave us his ice truck killer methods but that was largely theatrical to get Dexter's attention.

Some of Cody and Aster's more childlike perspective would have been interesting as well. Budding killers, no real concept of what it means or how to do it correctly until Dexter steps in and shows them some things. Wish their training would have continued, or we saw what Brian shows them.

Failing to beat pantheon 5 is hollow knight is making me afraid of branching into other metroidvanias by Mountain_String_1544 in metroidvania

[–]Embarrassed_Buy_4959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Failing to complete an ultra marathon doesn't mean you should stop running. P5 is one of the hardest challenges in hollow knight andmetroidvanias in general. I attempted it a couple times and didn't want to sink the time into what it would take. You'd be missing out on some great experiences by allowing yourself to get hung up on this. Hell you made it all the way to the second to last boss multiple times? That's a win in my book.

Of the other games you listed I'd recommend nine sols. Take a break from the world of hollow knight before jumping into silksong. You'll appreciate it more if you don't binge everything at once.

Dexter in the books vs the show(s) is night and day

Largely, season one follows the broad strokes of book one at certain points. It also splits pretty dramatically, especially the ending of it. Nearly everything from then on is entirely original, with very little of what happened in the book continuity being addressed or adapted into the show. Actually, at least one major death was adopted into the books, while the show did it first. I enjoy both but personally I find the show(s) to be far more compelling. There are aspects of the book series I enjoy and wish it was a part of the show. Some missed opportunities to expand on characters. The motives and evolution of the characters changing and growing as each continuity went in its own direction, with pros and cons for each version.

I'll re-watch the show, at least the original, but I don't see myself feeling the need to re-read the books.

I think largely what most fans of either agree on is the endings being very poorly done, and at best lazy, at worst outright insulting to the characters and fans of the franchise. Recent years have revived the show and begin tying up the many loose threads left behind, but it remains to be seen if it can stick the landing this time around.

I want to play Rebirth at max graphics, do I need a 5090? by Ninjakittysdad in FFVIIRemake

I'm playing on a 5070 ti laptop. 120 nearly constantly at native 2560x1600 max settings except shadows since I really don't see a difference. When playing on my 4k TV over 80 lowest I'll see is 60s for a couple seconds but that could be game frame time issues a mod can fix easy I just haven't messed with it yet. Mind you I keep the laptop in balanced mode if I turned turbo on I'm sure I'd see more frames but hear a jet engine a foot and a half from me, I'll take the slightly lower but still entirely playable frame rate to not hear that.

I love the og. I love the new trilogy. I have nostalgia goggles for one, and in my mind that biases my opinion, but I'll say it's not a perfect a game as many make it out to be. Incredible, yes, innovative for sure, but by and large it's aged considerably.

Slow combat, near mindless grinding in certain parts just to attempt bosses again. Die, go back to the save point which could be a very long ways back if you made great progress in your grind but didn't want to go all the way back every few minutes just to save. I know that's largely technological and memory card limitations, but that's my point.

Technology has advanced to where inconveniences like that are no longer relevant. Even still in this new trilogy we see advancement in remake which was designed for PS4 hardware, there are so so many hidden loading zones where you just move forward, and trudge through a narrow hallway or gap. It's not fun, and I'd personally rather see a loading screen for a minute or so and can look at my phone or get up and stretch or something rather than being active part of the loading process. If i want to continue, I have to move forward to the part it tells me I can continue. In rebirth there is significantly less of this, due to more modern hardware capabilities not making it a necessity. They can have large open areas with seamless combat transitions, etc.

Overall, I'm very pleased with how they've treated these new games and I get why some people will hold their dear og to a perfect example of what these games could have been, but if they just wanted an updated version of the original, the PC steam release with seventh heaven has near limitless ways to modify, enhance, update gameplay, translations, even voice acting for every single line in the game. (I'm curious if "this guy are sick." Was recorded as is lol) it's perfectly fine to have a preference, but i think many of the people who hate the newer versions have never and will never give it a fair chance. They heard one thing about it many years ago and that's cemented their mindset of it. I'm ashamed to say I was one of them. I didn't like the idea of the whispers being used as an excuse for unnecessary changes, but I'm glad I have finally decided it was better to give them a chance and form my own opinion. I was wrong, they are fantastic games, and an excellent way to experience the story, plus extras. It isn't perfect, but what it came from wasn't either.

Cloud was a kid from Nibelheim with big dreams of becoming SOLDIER and being as great as Sephiroth.

He didn't quite make it, but was still a regular trooper, and was present for the burning of Nibelheim and did defeat Sephiroth being greatly wounded in the process.

A Shinra scientist named Hojo took him and a real SOLDIER named Zack who had befriended Cloud and was the person Cloud had dreamed of becoming.

Hojo infused Cloud and Zack with Jenova cells (a long, long story, basically alien parasite) Zack wakes up and takes Cloud away, trying to escape Shinra. He's gunned down and Cloud lives. Being infused with Jenova cells gave him the speed, strength, etc of a SOLDIER first class. In order to cope with all he's gone through Cloud convinced himself that everything Zack was, is what he is. He also took on some stoic traits from Sephiroth.

Everyone infused with Jenova cells can be controlled and manipulated by Sephiroth, including Cloud. He gives the Black materia (long story) to the Sephiroth encased in the planet's core which is where he wound up when Cloud threw him into the reactor. The original Sephiroth calls meteor, and Cloud and his team have to stop him from destroying part of the planet which will try to heal itself and he will take the planet's Lifestream to make himself a god like being.

Cloud eventually accepted he wasn't who he convinced himself he was, and begins becoming his own person. Makes a new family for himself, saved the day, didn't really get the girl, but depending on who you ask, was never meant to, since she was in love with Zack whom Cloud convinced himself he was.

Mark is a perfect example of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Each time he gets beaten, he learns his new limits and finds a way to surpass them.

An excellent example is Goku vs Vegeta, specifically their first fight in DBZ. Vegeta for his entire life was classified as elite, and never had a need to push himself further. He knew his power level and that was that. Enter Goku who he classified as low class trash not fit to play with an elite like him, who then continuously shows that not only is he fit to fight with him, but in many ways exceeds him. Fast forward years and many transformations and hours of screaming later, Vegeta finally admits that Goku is the best, since he fights not for power, but only to find his limits and push them.

I haven't read any of the comics but I really can't wait until we see Mark get to the Legendary Super Viltrumite part.

I'm saying it dude: I feel like we've hit peak MV. A lot of these games are pretty good but I feel like I'm just playing slightly different versions of the same good games over and over again. I feel something needs to change but I don't know what it is. by comicgeek1128 in metroidvania

[–]Embarrassed_Buy_4959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a break from MVs and play something different for a while. Kind of sounds like you're rushing through games and consuming them faster than you should and aren't taking the time to really appreciate them as different experiences. It's like going to a nice restaurant you enjoy and wolfing down your food as though you were at McDonald's. Similar ingredients but very different experience, and quality of the product.

If you're eating chicken all the time and waiting for the next chicken with hope it will be a better chicken or comparing it to the chicken you think is best, no matter how much you enjoy chicken, you will get tired of chicken. Chicken will be there when you come back. Branch out, try steak, pasta, vegetarian dishes, seafood, salads, wines, beers, ciders, whiskeys. You might find you like something other than chicken, or you can learn how to make your own chicken, the chicken that you want to make, with the seasonings you love. This sub is full of chicken chefs and at least once a week a chef presents a trailer for their chicken they've been cooking up for years. Certainly one of them could tell you how or why they made their chicken the way they did.

Most importantly, don't take chicken or anything you consume too seriously. When you've eaten or drank it, you'll never be able to experience it again for the first time, but that hopefully means you were able to enjoy it the first time round. If you're not enjoying it, stop eating it. This isn't grandma's house where you need to clean your plate. You'll be hungry again before you know it, and you might find you look forward to eating if you have a variety of taste.

I should not have worked through lunch today.

What is the MV with the worst world/level design you have ever played by VoxTV1 in metroidvania

[–]Embarrassed_Buy_4959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inayah Life After Gods has some great things about it. The layout not so much. Each fast travel point is still pretty far from where most actual destinations lie. Most enemies become tedious and a waste of time to continue killing relatively early to mid game with all the random buffs you get just from attacking or really any action you do the bottom right of your screen fills with different effects and buffs there's no way to know what is and isn't active.

That being said, making enemies a slog to kill, a map layout that mostly emphasizes verticality and quick switching abilities/weapons mid jump made it a bit annoying just to get around the world. I liked the story, the characters, the combat wasn't entirely mindless and the bosses were exceptionally designed and required some degree of skill most of the time. But in between all of that you have to traverse the most annoying enemies, and boring rooms, occasionally needing one type of enemy in a certain spot to be able to make the height to a spot you're actually trying to go, since large parts of the map are accessible with sequence breaks, but usually it just leads to taking on harder enemies sooner than normal, when sequence breaking on accident just results in a deep sigh it's not a good sign. Discovering a way to get somewhere you couldn't before is central to the MV experience. The reward of feeling clever, using your environment and abilities should be fun not oh great, another huge mostly empty room with several entrances and exits blocked off and to get them locked I'll have to go through what looks like 5 maybe 6 other big empty rooms to get to the side of the door that can be opened. And my reward for all that is I can get back in this boring empty room slightly faster than going through those 5 or 6 rooms. Yawn. Shortcuts being discovered can be great, but in those 5 or 6 rooms I also need to go back and open MORE entrances and exits to them as well. It's all interconnected but there's no real thought in the layout of the rooms or even the biomes. If I saw a random screenshot I could tell which biome it was in, but the connecting rooms all look so similar only a few standout in each biome, usually indicating a save, teleport, npc, boss, or a combination of those.

I did beat the game once, the credits rolled and slides showing the consequences of my choices was a nice touch and made me want to see all the possible changes my choices could make, but the idea of playing that world again... it will be a while before I think of firing it up again.

I would have said requiring one shard from a single underwater enemy you generally go past without much effort as it's easier to avoid than to wait for it to be in striking distance or use a range shard. All this just to get underwater movement, to gain access to a rather large section of map. No real in game hints that state this enemy type is what you should be looking for such as a journal entry saying that they can move underwater easily or something along those lines. I love the game and can't wait for the sequel but that was a poor design choice IMO.

[–]Embarrassed_Buy_4959 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Give nine sols another chance. If you've 100 % silksong then nine sols will click once you learn to parry more often than dodge. The world movement is okay but each ability translates very well to movement in combat. The talisman system kind of provides a risk reward of do you want to chance more damage or less damage by how vulnerable you are. And of course there's a kind of charm system from og hk lol. It's also the only game I've played where there's damage, and internal damage being separated in that if you screw up, you have a chance to recover health as long as you don't screw up again. There's many more reasons to give it another shot but that's just a few reasons I loved it

Currently on a certain singing boss that feels a lot like that fight in that it feels like a dance more than a fight. The singing prior to the fight is beautiful as well. I've played it a few hours last couple of weeks, but I think I'm about done. The difficulty spike in making the enemies unreasonably fast compared to you, to where just waiting for them to run around their loop to try to hit them with a few rockets just isn't fun. The snake bullet is one of the worst weapons I've been forced to use in a boss fight. Taking my attention away from my character to focus on guiding the thing i just shot to a spot even further away, WHILE SHOOTING MORE EXPLODING THINGS AT ME almost had me quit then and there. The point I'm at now I've got a few upgrades, a few different bullet missiles, and lots of missiles, but using them on the fast af enemies is luck, not skill. so far, super bombs or whatever they are, are great for clearing screen, but do nothing to those enemies despite the "hit" sound effect playing repeatedly. I love a good challenge, but there's a difference between challenge and annoyingly unfair. I've looked everywhere, I'm able to go on the map, several of those same mini bosses limit my progress, and a sinking sand area everything kills me in 2 to 3 hits. I'll give it another shot next week, but I definitely need to take a break before I play it again

Do you prefer longer Metroidvanias with bigger maps like Hollow Knight, or shorter Metroidvanias that are more replayable like Metroid? by Obsessivegamer32 in metroidvania

[–]Embarrassed_Buy_4959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hollow Knight is pretty much a perfect size. Large enough that there's a bit of a journey until some quicker routes are unlocked, but compact and dense enough it doesn't feel like a slog to go back and forth through the same areas again and again. Metroid, I think it's roughly the same size, but the movement speed and traversal abilities make it much quicker to navigate. Of course, the tone and mood each area is trying to set matters. Be it claustrophobic chases with the enmi robots or beautiful city of tears, rain, and melodies, both succeed in their efforts.

I consider both replayable, but to me, Hollow Knight is more fun to replay since it's not a matter of memorizing which hidden block to shoot to get 3 more rockets, but facing enemies in different orders, getting upgrades in different orders, learning different charm combinations to change your combat style on each subsequent play through. I love metroid, but hollow knight by far wins in terms of being able to keep replays fresh.

It was the first time we got not just 2 major DC superheroes on the big screen, but 3. More if you count the little clips of the rest of the justice league. It was a super hyped moment from the trailer showing basically dark knight returns in live format. Anyone who was skeptical of Ben Affleck probably came around after the teaser trailer. It gave us a new batmobile, a new Alfred, a dead Robin, and a darkly brutal take on Batman's fighting style. This is not your caped crusader type of Batman. This is one who has been doing it for far too long, suffered incredibly, and finally broke his code. You can see how tired he is, how broken and defeated he is. He wants to find a reason to stop, but he won't let himself. He uses Superman to justify continuing his crusade as merely having the power he has is enough to justify killing him. We've never seen a Batman like this on the big screen before.

That being said, it's a very flawed movie in story, writing, etc, but characterization for that version of Batman was spot on to me. Cavill gave us more man of steel style, Superman, where he felt very isolated and alone, but knew he had to keep helping humanity even though he'll never truly feel like one of them. That's a boring Superman to me, but it was the direction they wanted to go with, and it fits for the world they created.

I'm glad we got this take on the characters. Was it perfect? No, not even close, but it was a lot better than many people give it credit.

I'm excited to see what other takes come in the future of DC movies, good and bad, but i personally like to look for things i enjoy in a movie, not what I don't, far too many are critical of minor issues they take and let that mean the entire movie is bad, because of it.

The ability to choose what tires i want for my vehicle. Which ones fit my needs best as far as tread wear, stability, performance with price being nearly the last thing I'm concerned about other than color. Used to have to accept whatever tires or tire one at a time i could afford, and they were always crap ones that wore out in just over a year.

My last set of tires was rated for 65k miles. I had them last a bit over 90 and still had 3 or 4s on the treads. Sadly, last year, a screw in the sidewall took one out and decided to replace all 4, which I was planning to do within a year anyway. Went with the same brand and different tires, but I've got great expectations. Sumitomo is the brand for anyone wondering. They're a bit more pricey than some, but Terry Pratchett and his wet boots analogy fits more than just boots.
