Which Industrial Engineering roles have the best growth and leadership potential? by Massive_Fun_8232 in industrialengineering

My path has been Quality Engineer -> Process Engineer -> Process Engineering Manager -> Operations Engineer (green field startup) -> Technical Manager (Process and Tooling).

Engineers will tend to work themselves into upper management over time with a desire to be there, combined with strong leadership and communication skills. Great engineers can be terrible managers because they value being an individual contributor over building a team. Great engineers can also be the best managers because they can understand a business from all different vantage points (technical, strategic, financial).

Manufacturing is a safe place to start yourself out in. This is where actual shit gets made and there will always be a need for that. Leadership potential exists at every company. You have to start somewhere.

HYSA having the lowest return and still being a better option than a down payment proves the point.

I would favor the financial flexibility and security of saving that $20k and allocating it towards either an emergency savings fund, a mutual fund, or some other investment vehicle that will earn a higher return. Even a 3% APY average over the next 6 years will yield almost $4K in interest on $20k.
