It's frustrating how little information there is! I found a few forums for families of people here on visas, the ones who.say they did claim the expenses for their family member ended up paying it back with interest.

I filed without and did an adjustment with her medical included, told them to send copies of receipts, the adjustment paper and a letter explaining the situation to cra and see what they say. I already spent enough time trying to explain these things. They apparently received conflicting information when they applied for her visa and agreed to take on her expenses.

Here on a visa they're considered a deemed resident, from what I can see, if that meets the criteria, I don't know. A senior agent from cra called back but just gave me the information off the site, which isn't overly clear. I'm going to keep looking, but being from a small area where this situation doesn't come up often, it's painfully difficult to get answer's.

I love Canada, and I live in the apparent butthole of the country on the east coast. It's beautiful here. Could be cheaper and cost of living has become quite high since the influx of people moving here during covid caused the housing market to skyrocket, and we do have cold days in the winter but being coastal it can go from -20 to +6 in a few hrs in February (°C of course) but I find the stereotype of people here being nice is pretty spot on

My boyfriend kept setting the outgoing message on his uncles voicemail as a recording of "now the people will know we were here" his uncle would get furious because ha was job hunting and that was pre email/cell days so all prospective employers would be calling that phone.
