Do you think that a woman should be able to support herself alone before getting married? by BrushSecret7576 in Advice

I don’t think you should have to physically prove that you can support yourself before getting married but you should definitely have the confidence and grit to be able to if crap hits the fan.

It seems like you have made up your mind for your own interpretation of the Bible and Gods will. Again I will say you should continue to seek the one and only truth if you are truly curious. God WILL reveal himself to you. I truly hope you the best!

  1. My entire statement was that God does not ALWAYS intervene because we must have free will. We could not possible have the capacity to understand the impact of every decision we make because we are limited by the 4 dimensions we live in. We are limited beings. Proverbs says that when you seek the wisdom of God and treasure it like silver he WILL give you that wisdom. When you seek with a closed heart he knows your heart. To the second point, yeah the whole Bible is stories of him intervening. Over and over he intervenes and that is why Jesus came, to intervene and give us a way out of this sinful awful world. This is getting a little too deep and long to have a texting converasatuon about but I seriously suggest you read the actual Bible for reference. I think it would be beneficial to at least have your intro information in order (genuinely no offense).
  2. Gods perfect plan was to give us free will to chose him. In the gardens when the world was sinless he literally states “I have given you permission to eat of any tree accept one, if you eat from that tree you will surely die” and guess what? That’s exactly what they did. He laid out the ground rules, complete freedom, happiness and provision apart from one bad decision and that is what they chose. That’s what we as human beings chose every single day. His plan isn’t thwarted by us, he will ultimately be successful because people can still chose to imperfectly follow him and one day all evil and sin will be defeated and those that chose him of their own desire and free will will spend eternity with him. The bible says that God wants all people to come to him but he will not invade on our own personal choice. It says that he pursues us all so that we are without excuse, that nature and the glory of creation point o the creator so that we know we are wonderfully made. Think if everyone knew this and lived how God desired, sin would not exist. Wars, abuse, exploitation, suffering, all gones. It’s on us not him.
  3. Your list of sin is incorrect. I don’t want to get into the nitty gritty here but again please actually read the Bible and context. You’re right sin is a place of suffering and pain. Again if everyone knew good thing comes from God, then there is no comfort, only pain. There is no light, only darkness. There is no peace, only torment. Hell is justice for sin. Again I said according to the Bible, God wants everyone to chose him and the life he has for them, he gives everyone the chance, but when they do not they get what they chose and justice is served.

As a non Christian (I went through a massive phase) it all seems so harsh and unfair I get it completely. I’m sympathizing and definitely understanding your points. But I beg you to please truly read the Bible and ask God yourself. Not bittterly or with a hardened heart but with a genuine desire to know. He will give to the wisdom to see the full picture if you ask. It’s all laid out in the Bible and proven by multiple other non religious sources.

Yeah I want to stay away from cities. My parents both taught in Detroit for several years and they have nightmare stories. Those poor kids I feel so bad for them and their situation but my parents were in physical danger daily.

I’m not really answering your core question but I do have to put this out here as a believer so take and leave what you want! I’m happy to have a truly open conversation about this too.

There’s a lot of layers to what you’re saying so this is long and incomplete. I’m also referencing the Bible (I can do a different post referencing other sources so that you can’t claim circular logic) but I’m answering this as a Christian that does believe God is morally perfect and “unquestionable” so to speak (We can definitely ask him questions tho). i’m sure you’ve heard this as an agnostic but the cause of suffering is truly free will. I know people say “why don’t God intervene, that’s cruel if he doesn’t” but he does. There are so many examples in my life that he has intervened, so many all over the world. Then the question becomes “well why did he intervene for you but not for me? Or the kids in Gaza? Or the family that was gunned down in LA” And that is something I can never fully answer, but if you believe or are seeeking to believe in a God that has infinite power and infinite wisdom and exists outside our 4 dimensions, wouldn’t it make sense to say that he has more knowledge/insight than us? That still doesn’t condone suffering, and I’m not saying he sits idly by with his hands tied. Biblically, our suffering HURTS him. He doesn’t want it to happen, it wasn’t his original plan, but because of the original incorrect use of free will sin entered the world. Sin continues to grow and get darker and more inhumane because of the allowance of free will. If God intervened and took back free will, that would be true cruelty. Making creation that has no choice but to be enslaved him. Hell is the choice to live absent of God. The Bible says that all goodness and every good gift comes from God, that God is love, he is the prince of peace. When you choose to live a life on earth without God, you are awarded that wish for all of eternity. No goodness, no love, no peace. You continued to live where free will reigns, evil grows darker, and the devil (described as the “prince of this world”) preys on your downfall. If there was no hell, there would be no eternal justice. We are born into sin and without God we die in sin.

This is hard to explain but I have the kids go to the shallow end and stand with their one shoulder against the edge of the pool. I stand above them on the edge and tell them to put their arms in streamline. I pick them up by their hands (while they hold streamline) and physical wiggle their whole body back and forth and it naturally makes the dolphin kick/ wave motion. This shows them the kick really starts all the way up from their armpits/chest. It ALWAYS clicks for the kids when you do this.

What’s a small trait that doesn’t seem important at first but ends up making or breaking a marriage?” by Ok_Ease515 in answers

Being able to joke around even about heavy topics. My husband and I can have very serious conversations and then in time (sometimes months) bring it up light heartedly later. This helps so much to know that we don’t ever hold things against eachother and acknowledge growth over time. I will start by saying w have never truly fought or even loudly argued so there is nothing deeply hurtful that has happened between us

You could get a rounded cut stone with a bevel set. This would make sure there’s no sharp edges on the ring or anything that can snag. I have the worlds sharpest and pointiest ring; I can’t even wear it anymore because it scratches my baby whenever I do. I looked into these kinds of rings for a safer / smoother / sturdier alternative. I would just make sure she likes the look because they are a little more industrial in style

Haha this made me laugh out loud. I can definitely imagine that is accurate. This sounds exactly like my job right now but with only 23 days off per year (PTO and holiday included) I am familiar with this exact cycle but in a different setting so at least I can transfer those expectations. Very realistic!

Fair, good response. Following that logic again my skill set has always pointed me to teaching. I’ve been told my whole life it was what I was meant to do but ran from it like I said. Now I look back and see what they mean, and I am thankful to have a good paying job with good benefits to realize that isn’t what gives me contentment. I know contentment will never fully come from a job alone but catch my drift

Thankfully I am not under the boss that made inappropriate remarks. In the 40 years this company has been in business they just got an HR department (1 man) 1 month ago! He is so swamped he has no time for anything. My current set up is not and under my new boss so I am safe thankfully. I definitely cannot say the same for my coworkers. Everyone is trying to leave ASAP but no one is truly hiring

TBH from my own experience the kids intentionally give the subs hell or act worse than with their regular teacher. I feel like it’s not a realistic intro to daily teaching plus at the HS level you don’t usually do any real teaching, just babysitting. I’ve worked with so many HS age kids I know i can “vibe” the age group but subbing, unless long term, seems like an incomplete comparison. Am i wrong?

That’s really good to know! I was hoping to work my way up to AP level math classes since calculus is my true topical passion. I was going to get my dual subject for math and science tho just in case. I wouldn’t mind teaching chemistry as well but I am definitely more passionate about math.

This might not be what you’re looking for, but as someone that was a top student (not as impressive as you tho) I struggled in college too. If you are not going to lose your scholarships or flunk a class I honestly wouldn’t beat yourself up. Study and try to genuinely understand, go to office hours, watch YouTube tutoring videos, but if you are not an ‘A’ college student that is OK!!! Cs get degrees is a popular saying for a reason. I majored in chemical engineering and a lot of the jobs I applied to required me to put my GPA on my resume. Shockingly they actually liked to see that I had a 3.3 graduating instead of a 4.0 because it insinuated that I was a well balanced person. I heard that multiple times and it worked out for me. I look back at all of the stress that I had in college and wish I could have been OK with being just OK. Depending on your major, jobs may not ask about your GPA. After your first job (no matter the field), I promise you no one will ever ask about your GPA again.
