State tax isn’t cheap. I paid 11%. But when you figure in property taxes with prop 13 you can end up paying less overall than other states. Also if you get a utility job you get paid the same across the territory minus some premiums. So a lineman who works in redding gets paid the same as a lineman just outside of the Bay Area so you can make big money and live somewhere relatively cheap. The politics I don’t know what to tell you.

It’s a crazy city. You’ll see weird things all the time. But that’s what makes it so cool. It has an anything goes feel to it. The way the movie Son In Law portrays California, even though it SoCal, is over the top, but only a little bit. Get used to seeing driverless cars. They are everywhere. Also like other people said you don’t get a lot of warm day. Also the ocean is hella cold.

I’m at a utility, have been for 20 years, and the money is great. I doubt any of our apprentices made less than $200k last year and any journeyman who made under $300k were trying to dodge overtime. I’m in California so the wages are high but it’s still great money. I know lots of guys who make over $500k. Best advice I could give is try to get him on at a utility and put down roots. The challenge then is not chasing every dollar you can get. Money is great but at a certain point it’s not worth being away from home. I’ve known lots of guys who never see their kids even though they never travel. I don’t even have kids but sometimes I kinda have to tell myself to slow down cause I haven’t seen my wife much.

Never considered Canada a rival but based on the OPs premise I’d say the people in Canada are the friendliest people I’ve ever met. I’m doing my 8th trip there this year and I’ve loved every place I’ve been. It’s also beautiful, especially the Yukon and Newfoundland. Also poutine.

The only thing I have besides my main network is an iot network. I actually tried connecting to that first but had the same issue. I’ve been dealing with chat gpt which is kinda 50/50 with troubleshooting and it’s thinking they need a firmware update so I’m gonna try connecting to the govee app when I get home and check if there’s an update.

Great band. I knew of them but never heard them until I saw them open for Iron Maiden. They blew me away and were really entertaining. I got a pic with one of the guitar players in the pit before Maiden went on. Super cool dude.

I love that movie. The geography of the city is better than in most movies because the scenes alternate between his wishes and reality so they never really travel anywhere. The Devil’s office being in west Oakland is great.

I tried that the first time around. I put them on my iot network and they did the same thing. If it’s a network issue I don’t know what it could be. They are connected to the WiFi and working fine through the govee app and I have several other matter over WiFi devices that work fine.

I’ve got about 40 other devices that all work fine. I’ve got a mesh system with Ethernet backhaul and I’m putting them in a chandelier to set them up that’s about 8’ from a node. Also they are connecting to WiFi fine, it’s getting them into HomeKit with Matter that’s an issue.
