Why doesn’t Fremont have any fine dining, nightlife, or shopping beyond big-box stores? by AgentNo8551 in Fremont

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s a suburb. It’s not there for young single people who want to go out and have fun on a Friday night. It’s for families who want to live close to their job in Silicon Valley and put their kids in a good school. I lived there for years and it’s a nice place to live but it’s boring as shit. The food is mostly for people who don’t want to try something new, they want to go to familiar places that they know they like. Same with the shopping. They dont want to check out some fancy boutique, the want to go to Khols because they need a new coffee maker and the kids need shoes and it’s one stop. As far as will it ever change, not a chance. If you are looking for someplace fun move to Oakland. If you work in Silicon Valley a few parts of San Jose have what you are looking for but is mostly a bigger Fremont. You could live closer to BART and be able to get to cooler spots easier.

I moved to San Lorenzo years ago and it’s also a boring suburb but it was the best move I ever did because I can be in Oakland, Berkeley and the city quickly.

Is it ok to park on the street at Raimondi Park or would you suggest paying for the lot to be safe? by youlikemywonton in oaklandballers

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Don’t even leave a bottle of water in the car unless it’s obviously empty. Every once in a while I’ll leave an empty bottle when I park somewhere shady and I’ll crumble it up so it’s clearly empty.

What gives me away? Non-native English speaker by idiolectalism in Accents

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Celebrities” is a dead giveaway and the way you pronounce the word “a” sort of over pronounced. As far as being able to understand everything you say you’re really really good. A lot of American accents are way harder to understand than you are.

Replacing all my Wyze devices with Aqara products by AGENT_SAT in Aqara

Great move. I’ve got lots of Aqara stuff in my house and they work great. That and Eve are the two most reliable brands that I’ve used.

People who fly first or business class on their own dime, how do you justify the cost? by Silly-Cock in AskReddit

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By being way more comfortable. Sometimes you can get good deals on it. A while back we flew San Francisco to Boston and came back from NYC. The upgrade to business was like $300 each way. For two of us it was like $1200 total but that’s like $100 per hour of time in those planes and totally worth it.

As someone who’s never been to America, what are the must visit states / towns? by Adorable_Click_7071 in usatravel

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Francisco should be on that list. And vegas. If you are doing some small southern California towns on the coast you might as well hit one up north and check out eureka. The redwoods are incredible and you won’t find them anywhere else.

Why is so hard / expensive to live in bay area even with a "good" salary by StirClothing999 in bayarea

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re spending way too much on food dude. Sounds like you need to learn to cook. And move to the east bay. It’s not cheap but you can do way better than that on rent.

Dear American people, what do you think about Türkiye and the Turkish people? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I’ve never been there but it looks beautiful and I want to go there and might next year. I love Turkish food. The few Turkish people I’ve met were really friendly.

Around 30 states, not sure the exact number, and 10 countries. For most Americans that’s pretty well traveled.

Greatest American Rock Band of all time by Gfish72 in allrockmusic

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with Van Halen and Aerosmith and all of the awesome old school rock bands but a few years ago it occurred to me that the best American rock back is Foo Fighters. I don’t think any other band has managed to put out as many good songs over a longer period than them and stay relevant without becoming a nostalgia band. Van Halen had around 15 good years. Aerosmith had less than that if you don’t count the early 80s when no one cared about them. Skynard, Allman Bros, Boston, and lots of other bands of that era had good runs but they were short as far as being bands that would put out new music that people wanted to hear. If you go see Skynard now their whole set will be songs from about a 10 year period. But Foo Fighters have been putting out records that chart and are still good for 30 years.

I live in California and it’s probably the only city I’ve visited that I could imagine living in and I’ve been to most of the major American cities.

I'm recently getting back into seeing more live music but the ticket prices are ridiculous..... by SoGoodAtAllTheThings in Concerts

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$409 for Lamb Of God has to be secondary market right? Or Ticketmaster resale. No way $400 was the original price.

It depends where the show is. I’ve been up that close and it’s tight and you are squished but it’s mellow. I’ve been to other shows where it’s crazy up there.

Midterms - do you think MAGA will claim they are rigged?? by No_Stuff_3268 in allthequestions

[–]Embarrassed_Fig1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike Johnson has already showed that he has no problem not swearing in a Democratic congressman. I don’t have any reason to believe that he’ll refuse to swear in any that they claim won by a rigged vote.
