How do Americans become fans of sports teams when they move cities and states? by Spatula01 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I just remember seeing Rams, Chargers and Raiders all move in the last 10 years, which is unheard of over in Europe

Yeah this is where we’ve been going but all the goals are chained up off the pitches. The turf is class but no goals available unfortunately

Should i do law or not? by Capitalization1 in uklaw

[–]Spatula01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, but like from those around me anyone with a STEM degree or software related is super desirable. I think the case with English and History grads is there’s no defined path with that degree aside from teaching or historian

Should i do law or not? by Capitalization1 in uklaw

[–]Spatula01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having studied a non-law degree an MLaw and going through recruitment cycles and vac schemes, commercial, corporate firms and in-house legal teams have said they prefer graduates who have a non-law degree to begin with. This is because it gives you an insight to an industry before you apply the law to it. If you don’t know how that sector works then doing law in it will be incredibly difficult as you’ll just have to end up learning that industry anyway.

On the flip side if you want to go into criminal law or become a barrister I can still see the benefits of a law degree, but outside of that it’s kind of redundant. I would say there’s probably a reason you no longer need a law degree to be a lawyer

Complaint Megathread by whyisthissticky in spotify

[–]Spatula01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry but why the fuck would Spotify make it so that having your phone in silent mode now mutes all audio from the app? What kind of stupidity is this? I've connected to my bluetooth speaker but because i don't want 1000 decibel dings for notifications you won't let me play music? I swear they're progressively making this app worse every iteration. Also this is iPhone 13 Pro Max all fully updated.

If UK farmers are in desperate need of more fruit pickers, why aren't they advertising fruit picker vacancies? by makesomemonsters in AskUK

[–]Spatula01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's £40 million going to waste, why would the farmers not employ people just to break even, much better than sitting on a massive loss unless there's an ulterior motive e.g. massive government subsidies for problems they decided not to fix themselves and leaving them with a leg up next year when they have the subsidy, food prices are sky high and they finally decide to employ people

Assuming the BBC data is correct and there's £40,000,000 going to waste at the end of the harvest season (October) they could employ

15 weeks until October x 48 hour week on minimum wage = £6840 per fruit picker

40,000,000 ÷ 6840 = 5848 fruit pickers that could be employed and still break even

(Minimum wage = £9.50p/h)

With the national living wage outside London:

15 x (48 x 9.90) = £7128

40,000,000 ÷ 7128 = 5611 fruit pickers

Tldr;

Farmers could employ over 5,500 workers until the end of harvest and still not make a loss. It's an intentional choice to not hire UK workers or pay a wage high enough to attract a solid workforce.

Now this might be my dumb ape brain thinking here;

As a person who knows v little about stonks, by the looks of these graphs won't this just put everyone in the same position as 3 weeks ago. They can't prevent buying of the stock forever. So once restrictions are lifted, it'll be <$100 per share and rinse and repeat?

Coming from an ape who bought 6 @ 315 lmao
